      Project Runway Finale...
This year I was in Tucson during Fashion Week and was unable to go to the Project Runway finale at Bryant Park in person. However, we headed over to Jenny and Sisha's to watch the finale with some beers and pizza. Overall, I was really impressed with what the designers came up with. I was particularly fond of Christan's designs. So, I'm glad he won. Left: Christian's winning model sporting a

      Thoughts on Project Runway
Okay, so I am totally not surprised that Christian (Annapolis's own!) won Project Runway. Watching his collection go down the runway was like watching a living, breathing work of art. It was, for lack of a better word, fierce. But there was absolutely nothing wearable in it. So, ultimately, I think I would have voted for Rami. I mean, at least I could wear one of his dresses to the wedding this weekend.

Project Runway: Victoria Beckham To Be Guest Judge For Finale!
"For me, there's one very clear designer that is the winner, in my eye," she told OK!. "There's one designer, that every single piece I saw come down this runway, I would wear myself." That says a lot! WHO?!?!?Tune in tomorrow night to find out!

Project Runway: Season 4, Episode 11: "The Art of Fashion"
My excitement for this season of Project Runway began to wane somewhere around the episode where they made "couture" from Hershey's candy wrappers and such. It was just too blatant an advertising scheme for me to take seriously. However now that we are nearing the Bryant Park episode, I am starting to make sure I tune in. This weeks episode, Sweet P was (finally) sent home. Dont get me wrong, she makes some very wearable clothing, but she is NOT a couture designer, as her strange satin dress revealed, looking completely without concept on the runway amidst much more detailed, expert work by Jillian and Christian. It was hard to take Christian seriously, at first. His youth was obvious, his sense of humor blatant. And though that may be fun and attractive in ones personal life and friends, i

Project Runway: The Wrestling Diva Edition
We just knew it was Chris's turn, didn’t we dahlings? The moment we saw those grunting, gyrating WWE Divas with stomachs as hard as cast iron and perky plastic chest appendages that rival Pamela Anderson’s impressive but artificially inflated two-pack, we could forecast who would win this week.Chris took on the assignment of dressing his leopard loving Diva in a tight, strapped wrestling outfit with all the honor befitting her, er, inside position. (For wrestling terminology, please consult this helpful glossary). Knowing exactly the moves that were required, he created a sexy caped costume with the speed and skill of a Saville Row tailor.Oh, how I adore the gloriousness of extreme bad taste and this Project Runway episode had it in spades. Our wonderful Chris instinctively knew what w

      Project Runway Rant
Dahlings,J.Z., a friend, recently sent this email about last week's PR episode. Her pithy comments about Project Runway 4 are well worth reading for the chuckles . Ms. Place might be a wee bit snarky, but she comes by this trait honestly. As you can see, her friends in Richmond are of equal mind and bent.I have a few more rants that I need to say to someone who understands. You are the ONLY person I know who is watching Project Runway with the same enthusiasm as I.If they don't replace that ratty looking bag the names are drawn out of... One of the challenges should be to create a container that's runway worthy and goes with Heidi's couture outfits. As it is, she looks like she's dragging around a bedraggled velvet teddy bear. (Hey, J.Z., what if she carried THIS bag?)What about that

      Project Runway 4: Victorya's Auf
This past week I've wondered if I've been too rough in my assessment of Victorya, calling her one of the judges' pets. I haven't been a fan of her designs, and have sometimes wondered how she was able to coast through. She also seemed somewhat too self-assured for the designs she was sending down the runway. And she couldn't work collaboratively to save her life. But then Bravo's editors slipped up, and they included a few scenes in which Victorya said downright sweet and lovely things about the departed designers. We got a glimpse of Victorya, the compassionate woman.I can't blame Victorya for looking so listless throughout this episode. I had trouble staying awake myself, and nodded off a couple of times as the designs came down the the runway. Last week I said I would have been just as

Project Runway: Over the Big Top
We always knew he had it in him, didn't we dahlings? From the first time we saw that fabulous purple and green gown in Episode One, we knew our big huggy fashion bear would go far. How do you say Talented with a capital T? How do spell mouthwatering fashion? C-H-R-I-S.Ok, so Christian had some input, as my friend Branch Water pointed out. Those ruffles were his idea and those tucks didn't come out of nowhere. But the sheer scope and size and outrageousness of the IDEA came from Chris. As sure as the air is polluted in Shanghai that ruffled halo and its execution came from the mind that incorporated pretzels into a bra. This lush and luscious over the top treatment reminded me of the yummy costumes Cecil Beaton created for Audrey Hepburn to wear in My Fair Lady. How can you not adore all thi

Project Runway Four: Christian Meets the Rock of Gilbraltar ....
... in the form of Maddie, a sweet, innocent Catholic School Girl, whose experience of the world at a private school run by the brides of Christ is limited and whose potential is still being developed. Upon seeing what Christian had in mind for her, this darling, shy, retiring and delicate young blossom, poised on the threshold of womanhood, squeezed Christian by the balls and ground him and his goofball prom dress ideas into a thousand emasculated pieces under her school uniform shoes. She then took out her trusty .5 mm Pentel Sharp mechanical pencil (a product placement opportunity Bravo missed) and made hash work of Christian's mess, adding her own subtle touches.Miss Thing, upset that her genius was being challenged by a mere child, began to bray like a donkey. Project Runway: Up the Hershey Highway
Ms. Place, we'll certainly miss you this week. While you pursue more academic endeavors, let me get on down to dishin' Project Runway 4. I'll try to make you proud.Don’t get me wrong. I love the wacky “non-traditional material” episodes of PR like the ones using the scraps from the recycling center or the designers’ rooms, but I’m kinda disgusted by the commercialism of product placement. They cram L'Oreal, BlueFly, and Saturn down our throats, but when a brand, like Hershey's, that has nothing to do with fashion takes over the episode, it's just...well, distasteful. If they head to the Disney store next season, I’ll hurl.Putting my cynicism aside, I enjoyed the designers’ creations and reveled in their quirky antics. Plus, any episode in which Tim Gunn says, “maxipad,”

Let's Dish on Project Runway, Episode 405: "What's the Skinny?"
On this week’s episode of Project Runway, the designers had one of the best challenges I think we’ve seen in a long, long time - create an outfit for a woman who’s lost a significant amount of weight, using her favorite outfit from BEFORE losing the weight as inspiration for the new outfit. But that wasn’t the big news of the night. This was the episode we had been warned was coming, way back in October. Contestant Jack Mackenroth left the show. Yes, the rumors were true. Well, some of them. True: Jack is HIV positive. (He never made this a secret, and was often shown taking medications and talking about his health.) Jack left the show. Jack left due to a staff infection he developed during Week Five. The staff infection got pretty nasty, causing his face to swell up. FALSE: Bravo kicked the designer off of the show. Now, I know you guys didn’t believe that, did you? Staff is gross and contagious and really f’ing dangerous. So yet, it is good

      Project Runway: The Revolving Door
What a great, fun, loopy, upredictable/sad/happy Project Runway episode.First, due to a serious staph infection, Jack's lip swelled up to twice its size and he opted to leave the show to take care of his health. Jack was such a sweet, generous and collaborative guy, and not bad on the eye either. We'll all miss him.But then we were treated to a happy surprise. Chris returned to complete Jack's challenge, and sadness turned into joy. Chris worked through the night, only to complete a pretty bizarre costume. Once again he stood in the bottom three in front of the judges. Dayum!Creating an outfit that I liked for once, the always self-assured, self-anointed, snippy, and snipy Christian managed to squeak ahead of Kevin for first place. As the judges proclaimed Christian the winner, you could almost hear him say, "I deserved this above all the other Bitches."Meet Sister Mary Margaret Ave Maria in an outfit that Steven slapped together with glue and a prayer. Dishin' Project Runway: Ugly is as Ugly Does
We have come to this pass: A completely forgettable PR episode.Except for Chris's aufing, there was very little to remember about Episode Four. Ms. Place thrives on dissing kitsch, but when Bravo creates a challenge that forces designers to create ugly designs using ugly trends from the past, well, she has to set her well-heeled foot down and vigorously protest. I winced when I watched the runway show. Let me go on record as saying that none of this week's designs won my heart. None. There are no comments around the water cooler this week. Branch H2O and I were on the road, barreling down I-81 to the nether regions of Virginia to attend a training when we dissed PR4. Here are our observations.Ms.Place: What did you think of this week's epi, Branch?Branch H2O: I can't remember from all that black and white and bland beigeness. You know, there isn't anyone who's funny on the show this year. Christian has a biting wit that I can appreciate, but at times he just comes across as a stra

Around the Water Cooler: Dishin' Project Runway
Our water cooler crowd at the office was so disappointed in this week's PR episode that all they could discuss was the boring results. We did not fault the designers, since they were given barely enough time to complete a daunting task: to create a 3-piece outfit for Tiki Barber to wear on The Today Show.First, Tiki's body is 5'9" of rock hard solid muscle. And he has no neck. Well, he does, but it has a 5'9" circumference. The outfit would need meticulous tailoring. However, our designers were given less than two days to complete the challenge. Whaa? Right away we knew the tight timing would skew the results. So, here's our take on the outfits. Only four of us had the wherewithal to snark these less than sterling menswear designs: Ms. Place, Branch H2O, Major Bitchin', and Land Mine (who makes her last appearance this week, as she moves on to greener pastures.)VictoryaMiss Thing: I have no opinion about any of these outfits. They're all too bland. So, taa!Land Mine: This looks l

      Project Runway - Episode 314

      Water Cooler Moment: Project Runway
Wow. Last nights episode was a huge ol' sloppy mess, but we're actually getting into eliminations where you actually care about who's going to go. Out of all the seasons, this is the first official all men's line challenge. There have been a couple of episodes (I think) where they had to design clothes for one another (which would sometimes pit them with a male)...but this was the official all male challenge. "Gracing" the runway was ex-jock and Today Show correspondent Tiki Barber, who would wear the winners design on tv.I loved how, when they met Tiki...the only one who knew who he was, was the only hetero male on the show. All of the gays were just "I don't know who he is, but he's really good looking". I admit I would've been the same way too. I don't watch the Today Show and I'm not into "the sports". This was also the first episode where Jack mentions being HIV +....which led me to believe that this would also be the episode where he regretfully has to take himself out o

Project Runway Season 4: Sarah Jessica Parker
The contestants squealed and burst into tears after learning that Miss Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker, would introduce the next challenge and play guest judge. With a meager $15 budget in mind, the contestants were asked to sketch a two-piece casual sportswear look for SJP’s Bitten line, from which 7 designs would be presented [...]

Project Runway Comes to Steve & Barry’s
I did the unthinkable this Thanksgiving weekend: I missed Project Runway. I was busy traveling across the country and indulging in family fun, what do you want from me? I will of course catch it when they rerun it a million times this week–it’s all TiVo-ed up and ready to go. I did find out that Sarah Jessica Parker was the guest judge instead of Jon Bon Jovi like everyone thought.  That’s what I call a trade up.  The winning look belonged to Victorya Hong, whose full and vested dress landed a place in SJP’s Bitten line. The dress is available in a couple of colors at the Steve & Barry’s flagship Manhattan store and will hang around on the discount retailer’s racks for several weeks. On the flipside, the very confident Marion from Texas was out as a result of what Michael Kors dubbed the “Pocahontas outfit.” bitten, Michael Kors, project runway, sarah jessica parker, steve & barrys

Project Runway Dress at Steve & Barry’s
Victorya Hong’s winning dress. Here’s an interesting piece of news for all you Project Runway fans! (What fashionista isn’t a fan of PR though, honestly?) If you watched Wednesday’s episode featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, you already know that the winning outfit will be sold as part of SJP’s Bitten clothing line, available at discount retailer Steve and Barry’s. What you may not know is that Victorya Hong’s winning dress will be available to purchase for $19.98 as early as today! The vest that goes with it will also be available at a price of $14.98. Personally, I haven’t been very impressed with what I’ve seen of SJP’s Bitten line so far, probably because I had ridiculous expectations for it in the first place. This dress, however, is so adorable! And the price is just amazing, so I’m definitely going to pick it up. Here’s an idea: If SJP wants people to start buying her stuff, maybe she should start making all th
