Thou shalt cast all function arguments to the expected type if they are not of that type already, even when thou art convinced that this is unnecessary, lest they take cruel vengeance upon thee when thou least expect it. 4. If thy header files fail to declare the return types of thy library functions, thou shalt declare them thyself with the most meticulous care, lest grievous harm befall thy program. 5. Disconnect between Management and Programmers
One of the biggest reasons why attrition is high is due to the disconnect between the management and the programmers. The reason for this disconnect is very inherent in the type of work that each one does and there is a clash of interests. Some of them areThe goal of the management would be to complete the project within the shortest possible budget which means ultimately in the shortest possible time. The goal of the programmer is to do the project in the best possible manner and this may mean multiple iterations before he gets it right. This need not necessarily mean that it will be done in the shortest possible time.Management likes to have a clear understanding of the progress of the project and how long more it takes to complete a particular job so that they can keep everyone informed

      Power Programmers
Power programmers are hand-held devices that allow you to download updated software to your vehicle’s factory computer. This updated software modifies the fuel, spark timing, transmission shift points and other tables within the factory computer or Electronic Control Unit. This is accomplished by plugging the programmer into the diagnostic port that is typically located under the driver’s side dash board on most vehicles. Programmers are an excellent way to quickly and effectively add horsepower, torque and fuel economy to your vehicle. And it  is noticeable once you step on the throttle. Not all programmers are alike, however. Depending on the manufacturer, programmers can differ on what items are altered in your factory computer. So, we gathered together some

      Marketing for Dummies, AKA Programmers
If I was not writing software for a living I am not sure what I would be doing, but it would not be sales. Having spent some time with friends shopping at car dealerships recently I shudder to think that in the process of promoting my own business I might somehow be associated with the underhanded hard-sell stigma often stereotypically associated with car sales. And though stereotypical it may be, the "what can I do to get you to buy a car you neither need nor can afford" pitch is indeed prevalent on a new car lot. With this hopefully avoidable possiblility in mind I set out to market my buisiness in the same way I set out to tackle a complex programming challenge: break it down to manageable pieces then address each in turn.

      5 Blogging Tips For Programmers
Most of us have heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, sometimes an example is worth a thousand words. Examples are like pictures in that they give a clear and visible snapshot of something that you are talking about. I am a software engineer and so I blog about programming on occasion. These are just a few tips I’ve learned about including code samples in your blog. Keep It Small When you would like to show a code sample keep it small and pertaining to the topic at hand. It can be quite daunting to try and digest and entire class file or program. Don’t worry about including your code in it’s entirety. Instead trim out several lines of code that clearly demonstrate the concept that you are discussing. It should be just enough to give the reader the basic idea. I also like to place elipses in front and in back of the sample to let readers know that it is an extract. Label Your Samples Label the code in your article or blog as Listing 1, Listing 2, etc. T

      Programmers versus Marketeers
Marketeers have been cursed for a long time by programmers now Seth Godin the marketing guru wants to have a word with programmers He has listed ten things programmers might want to know about marketeers now programmers are likely to disagree with it but the marketeers won't.The ten things are:Marketing is not rational. Programming is. Works the same way every time. Marketing doesn't, almost in a Heisenbergian way. If it worked before, it probably won't work again.Marketing is even more difficult to schedule than bug fixes. Marketing expenses are easily timed, of course, but the results are not. That's because there's a human at each end of the equation. Most marketers have no clue whatsoever what to do. So we do unoriginal things, or stall, or make promises we can't keep.Just because Sergey is both a brilliant programmer and a brilliant marketer doesn't mean that all brilliant programmers are good at marketing.People often prefer things that are inelegant, arcane or even broken

Posix.4 Programmers GuidePublisher:O'Reilly Media (1995-01-01) | ISBN-10: 1565920740 | PDF | 5.3 Mb | 564 pagesWhat's "real-world programming"? Real-world programming (typically called real-time programming) is programming that interacts in some way with the "real world" of daily life. At one time, real-time systems were confined to very esoteric applications, like rocket guidance systems. Now, they play a role in almost every aspect of life: they control the brakes on your car, video games, automatic bank tellers -- and the disk drive in your computer. It won't be long before mundane devices like toasters and hair dryers have microprocessors built in, to say nothing of multimedia devices that haven't even been invented yet. Real-world applications are characterized by deadlines. If the brake processor in your car doesn't meet a deadline, your car doesn't stop; if your video game doesn't meet a deadline, the Klingons don't die when you shoot them; if your ATM doesn't meet a de

      Agile development, programmers nirvana
Boy do they do Agile development here. Incremental releases all over the place. Changes to requirements coded at the drop of a hat. They do Scrum too. Quick little chatty meetings, ‘you finished that code you were going to write yesterday?’, ’can you do that amendment by tomorrow?’. This is developers heaven. Not that anybody on the development team knows they are doing Agile. They almost certainly haven’t even heard of it. Scrum? That’s a rugby thing, right? No this is development from 20 years ago which just sounds like Agile and Scrum. When a program has got some unexpected features then the documentation is amended to justify these features. Even though it’s baselined. They find an excuse to review the baselined document and make all sorts of amendments to justify all of the odd behaviours. Not that they will let you know that the documentation has been changed. In fact that’s the last thing they want, you kept in the loop. No it&r

      Things That Programmers Should Do
I believe you might have seen this kind of topic from many programming websites. But here, I summed up the most requirements and mistakes that most programmers always do. Whatever programming language you're using, whatever platform you like, that's not important. Okay, let's see:Any variable name should be meaningful. This will reduce your works when you're in teamwork or even individual. Think of assigning variable name as 'x' and 'itemCount', which one you like?Your codes should be in order and clean, it means, as a result, your codes are easy to read and review by both of you and your team members.Any comment is necessary and important. It helps a lot to remind you what your codes functioned and helps other team members as a useful description. When you're at maintenance phase, you'll see its importances.Don't forget to catch any exception error that may occur.Don't forget to clear any session or some variables that take memory, right after they finished their job(s).I
