      Avoid and Overcome Procrastination
The key to overcoming procrastination is inner strength; inner strength will motivate you to completing a task no matter how big or small it is. However, many people lack a particular strength get sucked away from our goals and plans. But there are ways to overcome this. Take It One Step At a Time Some tasks, at first glance, may seem simply overwhelming. It’s important not to let yourself discouraged. Start off slow, in small baby steps, and you’ll soon find that things are actually beginning to shape up. You Don’t Need To “Have To,” You Need To “Want To” If you feel like you “have to” do something you’ll automatically feel a sense of negativity. The solution here is to shift your mindset from “have to” to “want to.” Be a firm believer that if you don’t want

      How To Overcome Procrastination ?
Procrastination can keep you from doing your job well and hurt your career. Here are few things you can do to help you overcome procrastination.1) Give yourself a small reward after you complete a boring task. If you know a coffee and cookie break is waiting for you when you are finished doing something tedious, you will be inspired to get it done.2) You may put off a large project because it seems overwhelming. Break Large Projects into small chunks. Dividing a big job into a series of smaller tasks will make it seem less overwhelming.3) List the things you've been putting off from most to least important, or in order of when each item needs to be completed.Cross off items as you go.4) You may put off starting a task because you don't think you'll have enough time to finish it. Why Procrastination Is Bad
When Thing 2 stopped using his high chair, over a year ago, we were happy to get it out of the kitchen. They were always climbing on, pushing, or bumping into it, and it freed up some much needed space. I should have given it a good cleaning before moving to the basement storage room. But, I figured I could just clean it the next time we needed it. That next time was this weekend, when Thing 3 had his first attempt at solid food. That is, if you can consider rice cereal solid food. Before we could get those adorable pictures above, I had to deal with what happens when you leave food on a high chair for a year. All that nasty-baby-stuff, which gets into every nook and cranny of the chair, turns into even-nastier-impossible-to-get-off stuff.

      On Work and Procrastination
The good thing about this kind of job I have is that I work for myself and I have all the time to do all the work and promotion of my products. It’s good because (1) I really don’t like being bossed around. (I think I am born to be the leader, not the follower. Heh, but I can follow, of course, if I want to and have to.) (2) I’m a total home buddy that I don’t like leaving the house that much. (3) I can’t leave my computer for some reasons. (4) I feel like working in an office, in whatever workplace, or even just as a home-based worker, is like being imprisoned or something. With all these reasons, some of you may think that I don’t like pressure, responsibility, compromising etc. Well, that’s sort of true. For me, that’s so troublesome that I just want to leave things behind and just doodle on the fun things I do. Yeah, you can call me a quitter, coward and other names if you want. Indulging Random Whims of Procrastination
On nights like this when I could write about the rats nest of electrical wires my father discovered in our attic that is going to prevent us from having the house insulated this winter, Adam’s fire hose of vomit in my face last night and his repeat performance this evening on the floor of the toy room or even his strange fascination with brooms, mops and rakes I somehow find myself at a complete loss for words. When this happens I employ an exercise from my teaching days I used with students to help them get through writer’s block. The exercise is to simply write without stopping. Not to think about what you’re writing, whether it makes sense, whether it’s good or whether it’s absolute shit but just to keep writing. It’s been a long time since I’ve used this device (well except for the absolute shit part), but tonight as the witching hour approaches and the cursor blinks in the upper left hand corner of a blank page I needed to call in a favor. See why it’s important to like what you do for a living? I’ve been thinking about doing some radical changes in my life lately and starting in the New Year I will make steps to do more than just complain about problems and just start solving them. I am in the process of making a huge “to do list” of problems in my life to solve and goals to achieve in the coming year but first I need to stop putting things off or allow myself to be negatively influenced by persons or uncontrollable events in my life. The negative influences are easy to get rid of but the procrastination is a bull I’ll have to take on by the horns. The Cost Of Procrastination
I put off getting my car’s oil changed and tires rotated way too long this go around. I try to get the oil changed and tires rotated every 6,000 miles. I was well over 9,000 this time. To make matters worse, my registration and inspection was more than 2 months overdue. A symptom of too much going on, or I guess to be more accurate poor planning on my part. Regardless, I finally brought it to the dealership on Friday. Dealership, you ask? I agree, not typically the least expensive option, but let me explain. I purchased my car used from a dealership. This is not something I would normally recommend, but I know the owner and have a really good relationship with him, his brother (the sales manager) and his staff. I trust them, which is really important consideration when buying a car. Anyway, as part of the purchase I received free oil changes and tire rotations for the lifetime of the car. As a result, going to the dealership for both oil changes and or tire rotations

The 2 Critical Factors that Destroy the Procrastination Bug
miWisdom today… Learning and mastering a single process, task or skill can take time and a lot of concentrated effort. This is why it is so easy for us to doubt our own abilities when we have very little experience in a specific area. Some “things” naturally take a little more time to master than others, and this is where the problems lie. Many of us see these “things” that we need to learn as big challenges that seem rather overwhelming and daunting. Yet, little do we realise that the only difference between a person who has mastered a skill or understood a process comes down to 2 common and critical factors: Knowledge and Experience We acquire knowledge by seeking out information that we want to understand and potentially put into practice. And we acquire experience by applying that information in a practical and measurable way. In essence, what stops people from moving forward in life simply comes down to either a lack of knowledge or experience, or

      Financial Freedom And Procrastination!
By Dr. Raymond Jewell One of my many frustrations deals with people who say they want to achieve financial success but don’t seem to have the time to work it into their schedule. It can’t be both ways!I have talked to many people who tell me that they are sick and tired of not getting ahead. They tell me that the financial world is against them and that the financial institutions do not operate in their best interest. They tell me that they want to achieve financial freedom and have their wealth work for them and not them working for it. It seems like these people are telling me what they think I want to hear, and not what they truly want for themselves. If we accept them into our Personal Economic Coach process, after they profess to want to achieve financial success, it seems that these people are very attentive for the first few meetings. Organizational Tip #3: Procrastination Nation
Anyone with mostly human DNA and a beating heart has experienced the joys and woes of procrastination. Why do we clean the entire bathroom ceiling to toilet when a paper is due? When you are dreading prep for a job interview? Suddenly, you have an emergent 5 course meal to plan. We've all been there. So, I will include the psychology lurking behind this, and a few steps to push on through. 1. Fear of failure/perfectionism: Especially if you have a reputation of success, the bar is set high. Your mother, your buddies, the tollbooth lady, whoever you know or have bored with your life story, know you can achieve amazing things. Disappointing these people is scary, so often instead of completing a task, you have an unfinished novel, a partially baked cake, or a half painted Monet look-a-like in your den aka scary junk room. By avoiding completion, you effectively don't disappoint. Solution: Your imagination or nightly dream world may run wild with potential conversations or scenarios wi

"Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Goals, Priorities, Procrastination, and Deadlines
According to Dictionary.com, the word goal was coined in 1275. (I actually thought it would have been penned earlier than that. You, too?) In contrast, the word procrastination didn't get formalized until the mid-to-late 1500's.So it sure must've been a particularly productive 300 intervening years, don't you think?!Or maybe, just maybe, they had the word procrastination all ready to go, but just kept putting it off, day after day, until someone finally put their foot down and made it a priority. (The word priority was formally recognized sometime between 1350-1400, placing it after the goal was established - and after it was probably due - but before anyone really got around to working it!)So let's review:Goals were established in the late 1200's.Some 75 years later they were made into priorities. About 150 years later people started to admit that, yes, maybe there was a bit of procrastination going on. And 450 years after that, the boss got totally fed up and invented the word,

9 Secret Steps To Life Transformation: Bury The Procrastination Monster
Hey Folks, In my last post, I share that at one point of my life or another, procrastination took different forms and challenged my will to be successful. Sometimes it wins, sometimes I do. Today, I win most of the encounters but I still need to consistently remind myself of this dangerous monster in order to defeat it. So here’s my secret weapons: 1) Failure is the mother of all success - I do it “Nike’s way“, yes, that’s right - “JUST DO IT“. If I have to do it sooner or later and I have no idea how to do it better, I will just do it now and be prepared to learn from it. So that the next time I have to do the same thing, I’ll be able to do better. 2) Make it so painful you just have to do something about it - I have known friends who takes 50% pay cut from his job to motivate themselves to work harder with their side business. The pain that followed was too great and too real due to the lost of income which made him work his side busin

      Procrastination: 10 Things to Know
Two of the world's leading experts on procrastination, Joseph Ferrari, Ph.D and Timothy Pychyl, Ph.D share their insights about the type of self-sabotage known as procrastination.According to these professors, there are three types of procrastinators: The thrill-seekers, who get a rush from doing everything last minute. The avoiders, who fear either success or failure, and would rather be judged for their lack of effort rather than lack of ability. Those who simply can't make a decision because they fear taking responsibility for the outcome. But how are these procrastinators created? Researchers agree that procrastinators are not born that way. There's no faulty gene to blame. One theory is that procrastinators learn it--indirectly--through the family setting, as a response to an overly authoritarian parenting style. Although procrastinators will say it's "no big deal," the cost of putting things off trickles all the way down to your health. Procrastinating college students, for

It has given me financial scares a few times in the past (click here to read about how I almost missed a scholarship deadline, and how the cost of my brake repairs inflated to insanity) and caused innumerable delays in other trivial things. I have whined and moaned about it on this blog earlier, and have been taking positive steps towards reducing the negative effects of procrastination in everyday life. Historically, the word “procrastination” has been consistently given a negative twist. For example, here is how Wikipedia defines the term: Procrastination is the deferment or avoidance of an action or task to a later time. For the person procrastinating this may result in stress, a sense of guilt, the loss of productivity, the creation of crisis, and the chagrin of others for not fulfilling one’s responsibilities or commitments. That sounds pretty ominous, doesn’t it? Today

      Procrastination is Reinforcing
Procrastination is an interesting thing. Many people procrastinate. I joke, too, and say “Never do today what you can do tomorrow.” Procrastination is interesting because it is self-reinforcing. I get this from the dog world, where I get many things from. Reinforcement is a powerful thing. And emotionally it can really get us to do things. When a person procrastinates, or puts something off until later, there can be a real feeling of relief. That feeling is very pleasant and very reinforcing. So procrastination really reinforces itself. The more we put things off, the more relieved we feel, and the more we will put things off. It relieves the anxiety and stress. Momentarily, anyway. It may cause guilt, or anxiety, later on as we get closer to a deadline, or having to complete whatever we are avoiding. But since that is later.. that’s in the future, it is not as intense. Just an interesting tidbit of knowledge.

How to Get Rid Of Procrastination
By using a specific thought process you can get rid of the procrastination devil. First write down the things you have been procrastinating from doing. Place them into daily, weekly, monthly, and once in a lifetime groups. Now under each item write down the reasons why you have to do them immediately or start doing them immediately. If they fall under continuous process like physical exercise, studying, writing, gardenning etc, create the thought process everyday, keep this journal handy and go through it everyday. Many actions become habits and you will not need to motivate yourself with urgency.Apart from things and situations which are naturally urgent like health, food, sleep, clothes and some work related chores, your thought process makes the other things urgent, so create a similar urgency in very important but not so urgent work. This can be done easily. Just write down and start thinking why it is urgent. Your thought process itself will create the urgency.Once the thou

Procrastination - an art I’ve perfected.
aqua bear cd mem As your aware its exam time at the moment and what your probably more aware of is the lack of revision being done by me. Its not that I don’t want to revise. I can think of nothing less exciting than sitting down on a chair that leaves me grimmacing with pain to do several hours of maths revision having not looked at a maths book since year 11, two years ago. Theres also the sense of glee and pleasure I get from having to learn an entire programming language again because my memories so terrible I think its last Tuesday. Don’t even get me started on the other exam topic! You can probably guess where this has been leading to!? Yes, Procrastination and my god am I good at it! It started off at the beginning of last week with a trip to collectormania, mentioned in my previous post. Then I decided to count my penny collection I’ve been collecting for two years. My previous collection went towards sending a cow. I have £12.33 of grubby smelly pennies. Th

      Procrastination DNA
Last week I wrote about using the T-O-P-3 approach to priority management. If you haven't tried it yet, I strongly suggest you do. Why do we get so distracted from our priorities, though? (Embarrassing Disclosure: I'm writing this blog now instead of working on one of my so-called priorities!)I think the answer is typically one of three:Procrastination Trap #1 - Distractions - Best intentions aside, we keep getting caught up in other things. So, we basically forget it ... and time passes.Procrastination Trap #2 - Nonconcurrence - We reject the very notion that this particular task really is a priority - or believe that working it will result in something bad instead. So, we basically dispute it ... and time passes.Procrastination Trap #3 - Avoidance - We just don't like to do what we don't want to do, or are too uncomfortable with doing to do it. So, we basically ignore it, hoping it goes away ... and time passes.I suppose we could call these traps Procrastination DNA (Distractions

PROCRASTINATION is a probably a crap title for a blog posting if you want lots of visitors to your site. I found this out while surfing other people's blogs. www.allthingswomanly.blogspot.com/ had tried an experiment by calling her postings things like "pussies" and "tits" and had had many more visitors than usual. She did, to be fair, include a picture of cats and two beautiful blue tits, which I'm sure was a powerful comfort to watery-eyed men using Google search to try to find a pneumatic lass with whom to share their oh so lonely nights. But I'm going to leave "procrastination" as my title because, well, wittering on about blue tits stops me from having to write about what I really intended to write about which was…. what was it? ….. procrastination.I am an arch procrastinator. Training as a Means of Procrastination
I bet you’ve never heard of procrastinating by running… well, in an effort to put off the hard part of studying for my constitutional law final (the part where I catch up on some reading that I never did), I decided to go for a run. The weather was extremely nice (for Florida). It was 72 degrees and partially cloudy. Normally at this time of the year it would already be in the mid-80s… so I guess this bizarre weather is helping me out in some ways, although having to wear a jacket in the evenings in late April seems unsettling. I managed to beat my personal best, not that I have much of a benchmark to exceed, but I did feel a bit run down at the end, and I think it’s because I’m still not getting enough calories during the day. I should probably look into some kind of meal bars or some kind of ucky carb beverages. If anyone has any suggestions for stuff that doesn’t taste nasty, I’m all ears. I also need to be sure and up my water intake, be

      Procrastination and Peter
I’m preaching on Sunday and I’m on a deadline because we are heading back to Keswick on Saturday so I need to be all done by tomorrow.  The thing is I’m having a bout of procrastination.  So what’s new I hear you cry! The thing is I’m starting to wonder if that’s what is going on in this week’s story in John 21: 1-19.  The disciples, even though they have seen Jesus twice since the resurrection, have scarpered back to Galilee and are back fishing!  Jesus appears on the shore and the seven disciples there sit and eat bread and fish with Him.  Then Jesus gives Peter a bit of a spiritual kicking!  ‘Do you love me more than this lot?’  he asks Peter three times, mirroring Peter’s three denials of Jesus.  By the third time Peter is hurt.  Why do you keep asking?  You know I do!  But following each answer Peter gives Jesus gives him an instruction.  Feed my lambs.  Tend my sheep.  Feed my sheep.  It seems that Peter i

Please accept my apologies if you tried to access this site over the last 12 hours and were greeted with an unfriendly “bad_httpd_conf” error. I have ranted about Dreamhost troubles earlier. And after all that, I still haven’t switched my service provider. I delayed switching after Dreamhost offered to put me on a different server and things looked better. I should have known better… Anyways, this is how procrastination bites. Note to self: LEAVE-DREAMHOST-NOW. stuffShare This

      Procrastination at It’s Finest
Like the responsible parent I am, I’ve decided to wait until the last few hours before the government employee who is single-handily responsible for deciding on whether my husband and I are fit parents arrives at my house with her white gloves to start inspecting the premises, to actually get off my keister and start to clean. I thrive under pressure. I have to sweep, mop, shove clothes under the bed, toys into closets and create a 12 page photo album (yep, pics of my family) all before the nice, underpaid-no-sense-of-humor-I’m-so-screwed lady arrives on my doorstep. (I’m hoping the neighbor’s Rottweiler decides to stay home instead of perching his scary ass on my deck like my personal gargoyle because I forgot to warn her of his predilection for guarding my door instead of his owners abode.) But before I start the mad scramble to get everything in order, like any good blogger, I had to check my email. And imagine my surprise when I discovered that I was nominat

Just a mere note of procrastination
I took a test Wednesday. I failed horribly. With a 30.I take a test today at 3. Which I will fail horribly with below a 30.It's just adding up to be one of those days.I took the day off to study at school, with no interruptions, peace and quiet and somehow I'm on here blogging. Can we say addicted? In preparation of this test at 3; Money, Banking and Financial Markets, I'm taking the online quizzes for each of the chapters (11 in total, and we only have 2 tests in total for this class) and currently, I suck balls.Maybe if I can suck someone's balls in the testing center, I'll be able to pass...Naw, I couldn't do it. But the thought was nice, well not really, but ya know.Ok, so procrastinating the inevitable doom I'm sure to succumb to in just a mere 2 ½ hours isn't making me feel any better. So, I'm off to study some more and you, my fine people, shall say a little prayer for me.Or better yet - sell your soul to the devil, show me proof and I'll dress up as a leprachaun, paint

      Procrastination is Good
Worry is one of the few things in life we don't seem able to escape from.It can turn a grown man into a shivering wreck.Heck, I know. I've been there. But what good does worrying really do? Does it help? Do nights without sleep - and those panicky flutterings of the heart - really assist you in any way?Of course not.But how do you control them?Today, I'd like to share a little technique I often use if I find myself in a situation where I'm worrying about something. Here's what I do: I acknowledge the worry and give myself permission to think about it incessantly. Starting tomorrow.I don't let it affect me today. It serves no purpose. But I'll let it affect me tomorrow. And then when tomorrow comes, I give myself permission to worry about it the next day instead. Until it reaches the moment in time when the "worry" materializes... and we either handle it, or find out it wasn't as bad as we imagined.So... If you have something on your mind, or can't control the panic for whatever r
