Any Given Sunday: Are You Ready for Some Fake Pro Football?
With the Washington Redskins heading to New Jersey to kickoff this year’s NFL season against the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, I’ve decided to go into the vault for one of the few football films to portray the game in all its violent, cutthroat, egotistical glory. Even though Any Given Sunday doesn’t feature real [...]

      Man vs Machine: Pro Football
Is there football being played this week? When the Patriots are on an off week there is a decent chance that I won't be watching Sunday football because - I'm engaged and it's tough for me to convince the First Lady of SPSR Nation that I can't do anything because I need to stay home to watch the Bills/Dolphins game. This week there actually are some interesting games as we get to see how some of the more questionable teams in the league deal with some adversity. I can't believe I'm going to say this but the Cleveland/Pittsburgh game is one of the best games of the week and I'm not even joking about that. On the other end of the spectrum we've got Cincinnati/Baltimore in the Underachievment Bowl. Well I come into the week after going 3-1 last week, and even picked the fourth game right but the Patriots wouldn't help me out with a run up the score field goal to end it - lets see if I can keep that momentum going. As always the home team is in caps.Cleveland (+9.5) over PITTSBURG

I understand that the aim of the NFL is to have parity throughout the league. What is happening in New England and Indianapolis is really abnormal in the present day NFL and I think that is the goal. However, one thing that happens when there is this system in place to bring everyone towards a level playing field is that you get a league full of teams that nobody really cares to watch play. If you look at the slate of games this week and try to pick out the games that you might care to watch as an unaffiliated fan you'd be hard pressed to find more then three or four. I wonder if DirecTV gets upset about this as they try to convince people to purchase their NFL package. I mean why would I want to spend extra to have the opportunity to watch the Redskins play the Jets, or the 49ers play the Falcons? I think I'll stick with my basic cable and just watch the Patriots/Colts, and Cowboys/Eagles thanks. Anyways I went 3-1 last weekend and it might be time to start talking about Derek Ander

Sunday has the potential to be a pretty fun day in my neck of the woods with the Patriots playing the Redskins and game 4 of the World Series there might be some partying in the streets that night. What is the deal with the NFL putting a regular season game in the middle of the season in London? Wouldn't this have made much more sense in Week 1? I mean the Dolphins are already a complete train wreck and now you're going to fly them half way across the world to play a game in front of people who honestly don't give a shit about American football and someone thought this was a good idea? I feel bad for the Giants who had been dialed in lately and if there is one thing that could throw a wrench into your plans it's having to fly to London and eat fish and chips for a week. Ah well it's all part of global expansion but next year I vote we send St. Louis and Miami and then leave them both over there. Last week I went 0-4 and things have resumed to being terrible for my football picks.

I was talking with a buddy of mine earlier in the week and we were wondering how high a Patriots line would have to be in order to scare me away? We both settled on 28 points which seems ridiculous but outside of maybe two games left on the schedule this season are there any teams in the NFL that you feel can hang with the Patriots? So if you're Vegas don't you have to make the line just out of this world insane to keep people away from the Pats and onto whoever their playing? I went 2-2 again last week winning my Patriots pick and the Eagles over the Jets while losing on both St. Louis and Arizona. I feel like my Arizona pick should be set aside since Kurt Warner forgot to sacrifice a virgin to God before the game and couldn't last a quarter. This week we're back to potentially good football which was missed last weekend. As always the home team is in caps.HOUSTON (+1.5) over Tennessee- So either Vince Young will be playing with an injured leg, or Kerry Collins will be playing and

Really late pro football picks this week because I'm actually not playing any of these games. This might be the worst slate of football games in the history of the NFL and other then the Cowboys/Patriots as a late game is there one game on this schedule that you're interestd in watching? I'd hope that the NFL never puts the Steelers and Colts on a bye week the same time ever again because without those two teams, and with the Patriots and Cowboys playing one another there is a serious lack of star power here. As a recap I was 2-2 last week bringing my season record up to 8-11-1 and I haven't been able to get over the hump all season lets hope things turn around this week when I don't have money on these games. As always the home team is in caps.Philadelphia (-4) over NEW YORK JETS- I really am not confident that the Eagles are any good - but I am very confident that the Jets are horrible. I think this will be the beginning of the Kellen Clemens era in New York because you can only

Sports Briefing | Pro Football: More Problems for Thurman
Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman, who is already suspended, has been accused of kicking and hitting two men in his hometown, Monticello, Ga., during the weekend. He has not been charged with a crime, but a magistrate will hear testimony Friday to determine if charges should be filed. The N.F.L. suspended Thurman for the first four games of 2006 after he skipped a drug test. The suspension was extended to a full season after his arrest on a drunken-driving charge in September.
