      Goal Setting: The SMARTER Principle
Here is something that I got on my PT Dip course that I want to share with you. I have used this for my new goal renewal. I would like to introduce you to the SMARTER principle; • Specific • Measurable • Achievable • Responsible • Targeted • Empowering • Revisable SPECIFIC The goal should be specific. Wanting to “lose 4kg of fat in 2 months” is a specific goal, but wanting to “

Take Action: Memphis Principle Outs her Students
According to Queer Today: "A public high school principal who posted the names of two boys on a list of students believed to be couples, revealing their relationship to their parents as well as other students and teachers, violated the students’ constitutional right to freedom of association, the American Civil Liberties Union charged Tuesday. In a letter to school board officials in Memphis, the ACLU demanded that the school reprimand the principal and take steps to ensure such actions never happen again. In September of 2007, the principal at Hollis F. Price Middle College High told teachers she wanted the names of all student couples, “hetero and homo,” because she wanted to monitor them personally to prevent students from engaging in public displays of affection." And yet there is no measures assuch taken for the cause. The main principle that is used for the safety of the Indian Railways is thatwhenever a train will move over the track there will be vibrations that will be created on the track. Thesevibrations that are produced on the track are dependent on the speed of the train, load or the weight of thetrain. These vibrations travel long distances because of one the metal tracks and the other reason is theconnection of these tracks by means of the fish plates.

The basic principle of growing on rockwool
The basic principle of growing on rockwool is that the plants are placed in a growblock, on a rockwool slab. Near each plant a dripper is placed which is connected to a pump (in the reservoir with nutrient solution) that, connected to a timeclock, waters the plants at set times and provides them with the nutrients they need. In this way the nutrients are immediately available for the plant and at the same time leaves enough oxygen (necessary for clones or cannabis seeds)  for the roots because of the porosity of the rockwool. The solution is kept at the right temperature with an aquarium heater (23 deg C)

A new rule of equality and justice for all waits to be born in the politics of our nation. A secret is being whispered from ear to ear by the young and the visionary. The secret is our non-negotiable unity as human beings. The old generation doesn’t understand this point and their failure to understand it betrays a lack of commitment to truly advancing humanity through democracy. Even when the heroes of the old generation proclaimed our essential equality, they proclaimed it only for “all men” and then continued to hold many as slaves. The pattern they gave us has been flawed from the start, flawed by its violation of our non-neg

Have the decay constants of any elements been calculated from first principle
The calculation of *atomic* decay has indeed been calculated from first principles (where an excited atom decays to a less-excited version of the same atom.) But I think you're specifically talking about nuclear decay, which is far more complicated -- and I think the answer is generally no. Certainly not for most nuclear decay processes... The best chance would be decays governed by the weak nuclear force, but even then you would need to know the details of the nuclear structure. I suppose it's possible that one could get enough information about this structure from experiments, and then calculate the decay rate, but I'm not sure it has ever been done. (It's usually far easier to measure the halflife!) The one exception is the lightest unstable nucleus -- a bare neutron! (Turns out neutron

In quantum physics, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle is the statement that locating a particle in a small region makes the momentum of the particle uncertain, and conversely, measuring the momentum of a particle precisely makes the position uncertain. In quantum mechanics, the position and momentum do not have precise values, but have a probability distribution. There are no states in which a particle has both a definite position and momentum. The narrower the probability distribution is in position, the wider it is in momentum. Best Weight Training Principle for the Chest
To train the chest you all know presses and fly’s are the way to go. Presses, from a martial arts perspective are great, for the simple fact that they work the exact muscles used when punching. There are many training principles that can be used in order to shock the chest muscles into growth. One which I use (and am sure others do also), I have named the Full Blast. You shall need a bench which can be raised from a flat position, to various incline positions and finally to a full incline position as when doing shoulder presses. Using dumbbells for this exercise pick weights which enable you to do 12 reps. Starting from the flat position, perform 12 reps of pressing. Then quickly raise the bench up a notch so it is at a slighter incline then perform another 12 reps. Again, quickly raise the bench then perform another 12 reps etc. The idea is to perform quickly but smoothly, and to reach the full incline position in which you should be almost doing a shoulder press. More Question Effects of Mandates But The Real Question Remains One of Principle
More writers are joining Robert Reich, who I quoted earlier in the week, in disputing Hillary Clinton’s claims that her health care plan will insure more people than Obama’s. The New York Times writes: But while Mrs. Clinton is right that Mr. Obama’s plan would leave out millions, she is being misleading in implying that her own plan covers everyone. Mandates rarely achieve 100 percent compliance. In addition, they are almost impossible to enforce. Because of those difficulties, Mrs. Clinton’s own plan would probably leave out millions. Mandates have not worked with auto insurance. While all drivers are required to have it, 15 percent of the nation’s drivers have none, according to the Insurance Research Council. Mr. Obama’s health plan could actually have a better compliance rate. The 15 million who would supposedly be left out equal about 5 percent of the population — a smaller portion than are going without auto insurance, said Joseph Antos, a health policy exp

... as the little boy said, "Today we learned how to spell 'banana', but we didn't learn when to stop." ... In honor of that little boy, we can elevate his idea to a principle, The Banana Principle: Heuristic devices don't tell you when to stop. - Gerald M. Weinberg, An Introduction to General Systems ThinkingI just had the following exchange with my 12 year old daughter Jessica.Me: How do software testers know when to stop testing something?Jessica: When you die! . . . Or when you get really tired of it.[Update: The Banana Principle does not mean that heuristics cannot be useful in determining when to stop. It means that heuristics do not tell us when to stop using the heuristic. There is a tendency to start transforming the most useful heuristics into laws -- in our minds. Heuristics should help us think and not replace thinking. This includes continual questioning of even the most useful heuristics.] Ben Simo QuestioningSoftware.com

And this is what our fellow human beings who frequent correctional facilities enjoy...At OUR expense! No bills of any kind--think about it. Anyway, Sheriff Winston Peterson decided to make the crooks in his county pay room and board! And whilst I'm sure his motives were less than honourable, it was the right idea in principle... A southern Georgia sheriff faces federal charges accusing him of billing jail inmates for room and board and interfering with an FBI investigation of local judges. An indictment unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court accuses Clinch County Sheriff Winston Peterson of perjury, obstruction of justice, using forced labor and extorting former jail inmates. Peterson, 62, pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday and was released on $10,000 bond. Investigators say the sheriff charged jail inmates $18 per day for room and board. C

The Fred Flintstone Principle - Mistakes are the Seeds of Evolution & Change
miWisdom today… One must always take care to learn from other people’s experiences, mistakes, actions and decisions. If one is to ignore this important principle, one will find themselves on the treadmill of life - moving consistently and rapidly, yet making no progress at all. It has taken humanity hundreds of thousands of years to reach our current level of knowledge and understanding. This progress didn’t happen by chance, nor did it happen through planned intervention. We became what we are today through nothing more than the act of making and learning from our mistakes. It is said that Fred Flintstone developed the wheel not by accident but rather through a process of mistakes that lead to a better and more effective way of thinking about his situation. Dragging big rocks along the ground all day or lifting them above his head, surely cost Fred a great amount of energy and strain. He even had the habit of dropping a rock or two every now and then on his hairy f

The Jellybean Principle - Overestimation… The Habit of Disappointment
miWisdom today… The vast majority of people have a natural tendency to overestimate their time, work, energy, decisions and actions. This is known as the Jellybean principle, which is the act of being incapable of estimating correctly how many colored Jellybeans are in the jar.   Back in high school there was always someone organizing a Jellybean counting competition of some sorts each year. They would get hold of the largest glass jar or container they could find, and would “stuff” it with as many jellybeans as was humanly possible. Then, one-by-one each student would attempt to guess how many Jellybeans were enclosed within the jar. I was intrigued as to how students would go about estimating the number of Jellybeans that were in the jar.  Would they try to calculate it mathematically based on the size of each jellybean and the dimensions of the glass jar? Would they just attempt to “guestimat

      Environmental Wellness Principle
This article is part of a joint effort to increase environmental awareness. It also marks the first annual blog action day. To see what everyone else is writing about the environment today, you can browse the blog action day website. At first I wasn’t sure where I would go with an environmental article. That’s because there are already countless articles listing practical tips about what you can do. It’s pretty simple to find them via search engine. I didn’t want to add to the clutter, but I did want to make a positive impact on the environment through my writing today. Environmental Wellness Principle (EWP) The environmental wellness principle is a term that I’m going to coin right now. If you aren’t benefiting the environment, you’re harming it. It’s as simple as that. If you’re reading this, you have internet access, which means you know, or can easily find out, many ways to be environmentally friendly. The only thing that remai

      The Marzano Principle
Success in education requires a formula. The formula is much less complicated than people realize.Begin with coordinated and structured goals for students in every course at every level. Design activities and assessments that are credible ways to measure the achievement of those goals by all students. Then, use the results of those assessments to make decisions to further coordinate and formulate the goals. The process is cyclical and never stops.1. Goals are measured through assessments.2. Assessments produce data.3. Data drives goals.(Repeat Step #1)Dr. Robert Marzano, (www.marzanoandassociates.com), in his new book, The Art and Science of Teaching, spells out this practice with simple elegance. He begins with the statement:Arguably the most basic issue a teacher can consider is what he or she will do to establish and communicate learning goals, track student progress, and celebrate success. In effect, this design includes three distinct but highly related elements: (1) setting and c

What Does It Mean To Plateau? (The F.I.T.T PRINCIPLE Part 1)
Have you ever begun a exercising with a particular weight goal or body type in mind? At first you start to see all these results. Your clothes may be fitting differently and your body becoming more defined. You are pleased with the results and love the way your body is changing. You may have even bought new clothes to show off you new look, and then IT happens. Gradually you aren’t seeing the results that you first saw. Next thing you know your have become discouraged and want to quit, but DON’T!!! You just experienced a plateau. A plateau is when the body adjusts to the stresses applied to it so that the required tasks become easier. On your way to a plateau you may begin to see improvements in your body because of the transition it is making. The reason you stop seeing results is because your body has adjusted and is no longer challenged to do the same activities that once were hard. How do you get out of a plateau you ask? Well, the first thing you must do

      The Principal Principle

The NEWSWEEK Challenge Index measures one: the number of IB and AP tests students take. But just as important is the person who leads the school.Good principals may seem unlikely superheroes—unless you're a student, teacher or parent. They set the tone for what happens from the moment the opening bell rings and can turn a troubled school around with a combination of vision, drive and very hard work. It's a 24/7 job. "Schools aren't just about just reading, writing and arithmetic anymore," says Penna. "School faculties now have the additional roles of mentor, adviser and quasi parent."Principals also have to be politicians, crisis managers, cheerleaders, legal experts, disciplinarians, entertainers, coaches and persuasive evangelis

Argh! In fact, it almost seems that this particular tasks exists for the pure and simple reason of driving me just a little loopy. And when this task is not driving me to my wits end, I am trying to combat the bone-chilling cold that currently has all of Melbourne (let alone the rest of the state) in it’s long-fingered and icy clutches. Believe it or not, it’s a LITTLE bit hard to go out for a cuppa tea when its so bitterly cold out that the only bit of your body which is exposed to the elements are your eyes, and those only because you kinda need to see where you’re going, and wearing an eye-warming piece of clothing such as a blindfold is deemed somewhat impractical after receiving quite a few dents to you

      Principle of Higher Self
I want to begin this lesson with a quote from Dr Wayne Dyer. He said this in his book “Manifest Your Destiny”. “Within you is a divine capacity to manifest and attract all that you need or desire.” - Wayne Dyer I am sure you will agree with me that we are not just this physical form or this body. There is something within us that is invisible and is eternal. Let me ask you a question, are you a body with a soul or a soul with a body? I am sure that something inside you tells you that you are a soul with a body. We are not just this physical form that we can see and touch, we are much more. Within us, there is something eternal, it is never born and never dies. This is your soul or your “higher self”. Have you ever asked yourself these questions? Where do we come from? Who created this physical world that we are living in? When we see trees or flowers, our logical mind tells us that there is something within the tree that created the tree. We go out t

      Principle of Being
This is one of the most powerful principles, which can help you to achieve your desires almost instantly. This is the principle of being. When this principle is used correctly, you will never need to worry about not getting what you want. You will start to experience creating your life desires in an easy and effortless manner. The principle of being simply says that whatever you want to have or be, by choosing to be in that state of being or having, you will quickly experience what you want in the physical world. For example, if you want to become rich, the quickest way to get rich is to be in the state of being rich. Why the state of being is so important, is because the state of being determines your thoughts and the way you look at things. If you are in a state of poverty, you will think, speak, and act like the poor; if you are in a state of being rich, you will see things differently, and act differently. One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that ideas change the way you

      Principle of Connection
This is one of the most fundamental principles of the universe. As long as you understand this principle and put it into practice on a daily basis, you can not fail to create the success you desire. This fundamental principle is called the principle of connection. The principle of connection says that we are not separated human beings, we are all connected with each other and with the universe we live in. Put into other words, this whole universe is one unity. We are all part of it, we are all one. I would like to borrow words from Dr Wayne Dyer, whose words are full of wisdom. He said that we were not organisms in the environment, we were environ-organisms. If you think you are separated from the environment, then try not to breathe for a moment. We can’t live without the environment. You and your environment are a single entity. You can’t separate from it. Without the environment, there will not be you, and without you, there is no environment. Think of it this way. As yo

      Theory Week: The Peter Principle
The Peter Principle, formulated by Dr. Laurence J. Peter, states “In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.” The gist is that employees of a business or organization are normally promoted to their highest level of competence, after which further promotion raises them to a level at which they may become incompetent A key concept is that an employee’s incompetence is not necessarily a result of a higher-ranking position being “more difficult.” Instead, the cause may be that the new position is sufficiently different to require separate skill sets, which the employee may not possess. A common example is a factory worker whose excellence at his work results in him being promoted into a “management position.” However, the skills that got him promoted in the first place are no longer of any use and as a result he is let go. I have found a few other interesting references and adaptations to this principle on blogs. Here it is

Why Should You Protect Your Principle with the Put Option Dividend Strategy?
The stock market is full of volatility and this causes a deception of returns to retail investors. For example, lets say that you put $1,000 into the stock market last year and your investment declined 10%, you now have $900 in your investment account. Now, this year your investment increased 10%, most investors would think that they are at break even, but because of compounded returns, they are now left with $990, or a loss of $10. If you were to go back a few years to the end of the bubble this is what the returns looked like: 2000 -9.95% 2001 -13.11% 2002 -23.36% Taking into account compounding that is 40% loss from the highs. So in other words for every $1 invested at the beginning of 2000 in 2002 would now be worth $.60. In order for the investment to get back to break even from that fall, the market would need to return 66.7%. Using the Put Option Dividend (POD) strategy and the Covered Call POD strategy, the investor using the original POD strategy, that original decline of

After they finally agreed to give me the $105 check from Qwest (phone company) for doing it, I reluctantly agreed. I try not to turn down money. But I'm a hypocrite because it amounts to predatory lending. Personally, I would have let the person sit in jail for three days till the check cleared. If they are in jail, they likely deserve it. But, if this neighbor of the friend wants to pay me $25.00 above it, I am going to say Woo hoo, and use the money to invest in more Prosper.com loans or use it to pay down my student loans to save interest.Addendum: Then my friend tells me that the lady in jail did a DUI and isn't

The 90/10 secret is incredible! Very few know and apply this secret. Worry consumes time, anger breaks friendships, and life seems dreary and is not enjoyed to the fullest.. Friends are lost. Understand and apply the 90/10 secret. 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane may be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%! How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light, but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you, YOU can control how you react! Let's use an example. You're eating breakfast with your family.
