While perusing the aisles at W.al-m.art the other day I found a really neat D.isney Princess plate, bowl, and cup set. It was super inexpensive ($3) and I knew Elaina would get a kick out of it! So today she was going through the cart where I keep all of her dishes (limited cabinet space). She pulled out her Princess cup and said, "Oh Mommy! I put milk in my cup?"Well I'm doing the dishes and I hate being interrupted so I told her to wait. As she stood there, waiting, she started pointing at each Princess and naming them. These are the D.isney Princesses according to Elaina:Awee-ul (Ariel)Belt (Belle)Cinduh-wella (Cinderalla)Sleeping Booty (Sleeping Beauty)My personal favorite was the last one! Princesses are definitely Elaina's obsession. Anything Princess that she sees she immediately sa

Here’s another example of real life branching out into the virtual world. The newest toy to bounce into the hands of unsuspecting pre-teens and teens is the virtual game Miss Bimbo. With members given a naked virtual character and cash to provide her with anything from breast augmentation to new clothes for a beauty contest, the site boasts of around 246 024 registered ‘bimbos’. Parents in Europe have raised concerns over the sensibility of such a site especially when a father found money deducted from his mobile bill due to messages his daughter had sent to fund items for her bimbo. It’s the Tamigotchi phenomena all over again, only this time, the repercussions on impressionable young minds could be worse.Plastic surgery, as branch of medicine is misunderstood a lot when tagge
I do think Christmas is much better when a kid is around; at least it is for me. And even better now that my daughter, now nearing 2 and a half is really beginning to understand the concept of Santa. She made cookies with the wife - chocolate chip as requested by Santa and colored him a picture. In return I… I mean ‘Santa’ left her a big sketch of Santa eating the cookies and feeding some to the reindeer with a big note that said “Thank you! Make more chocolate chips cookies next year and maybe I’ll leave a bigger gift!”It also included a small “P.S” on the bottom that said, “Poop on the Potty and you can have Rudolf.”Gifts! Gifts! What did everybody get from Santa? The wife got an iPhone from Santa since she’s been envious of his since he got it. My daughter got a “F

And on another note: Don’t forget, Aloha Friday - The Meme starts this week!
The whole idea behind Aloha Friday is to take it easy and look forward to a great weekend with family & friends. That’s why your post should be something simple - a basic question or topic of discussion. Then open up your comments and invite everyone to join in on the fun.
That’s it.
I’ll be posting a Mr. Linky on Friday where you can all add your sites so we’ll know who’s participating. If you’d like a button for your post, you can take whatever you want from here. If you’d like to make your own and add it to this collection, just let me know. The more the merrier!
To kick this off, I’m giving away a free 2008 Hawaiian Pictorial Wall Calendar to one lucky random participant. The winner will be announced on Monday. Hope you join
In the original story, there was one princess, up to 20 mattresses, and a single pea. In our little tale, there are three princesses, one mattress and nary a legume in sight. We do have lots of blankets, books, and giggles.
Sarah and the girls snuggle in for bedtime. Notice Tarah’s smile.
Rachel was invited to a birthday sleepover this weekend. We were offered Adam (the birthday girl’s brother) in exchange for Rachel. I figured that was a good beginning and so I bargained (I’m quite the savvy shopper) for the youngest sister of the birthday girl as well. Now we were starting to get some where. A phone call or two later and I had managed to snag another 5 year old. In the end, the older sisters all went off to the birthday party and the younger girls came here.
Rachel, having learned from prior Princess Parties, tucked the ladder to her top bunk in my closet. Hmmm. I wonder if she really thinks that will stop 3 persistent princesses, one of whom is already an

(8/17/2007) If you have trouble remembering names, try this one:Prince Lorenz Otto Carl Amadeus Thadeus Maria Pius Andreas Marcus d'Aviano of Belgium, Duke of Modena, Archduke of Austria-Este, Prince Imperial of Austria, Prince Royal of Hungary and Bohemia. In a more abbreviated case, His Imperial and Royal Highness Prince Lorenz of Belgium arrived in Bali last week with his wife, Princess Astrid of Belgium and their children (two princes and three princesses) for a holiday visit.Apparently nonplussed by EU travel advisories on flying in Indonesia, the Royal Family arrived on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, onboard a Garuda Flight from Makassar to enjoy the island's fine resorts and many attractions.Gainfully employed as a Swiss Banker, His Imperial and Roya
Hello to all visitors! I'm currently tied up with some important work and won't be able to resume blogging fully until next week, but, here's an interesting story about a trio of princesses from Qatar who were ejected from a British Airways line after they refused to sit next to some male passengers. The other passengers seem quite pleased, and with good reason: all that hubbub held up the flight for almost three hours.
Holy Hannah! My girls are spoiled rotten! We've had a little income setback so we're watching every penny. One of my princesses keeps hounding me to go shopping and to get the new Hannah Montana CD. When I say "do you have the money?" I get the huffy pouty girl. Ok, rant over. ;)
As parents, we all want to give the very best to our children. Because nothing gives us greater joy than seeing our kids happy. Our children love to live in a fantasy world and through the ingenuity of a company called Sweet Dream’s Children Interiors, parents will be able to feed that fantasy. [Parenting tip sidebar: I have learned this through years of parenting — nurturing a young creative mind allows the child to grow and look at life in a healthier way, emotionally and mentally.]
Sweet Dreams specializes in custom-made children’s bed. This castle/bed is one very popular design little girls will definitely love. But they also have some inventive designs for little boys who fantasize about becoming a prince, a pirate or a zookeeper. Check their gallery out for some great ideas.
The company also manufacturer’s childrens’ furniture that may include tables, chairs, cabinets and other accessories. The designs are all hand-painted and guaranteed safe for
We have an almost five year old boy. He is totally, completely, entirely enamored and obsessed with the Disney Princesses. He loves them all, seems rather particular about Sleeping Beauty. We don't know when or how this started, it just did. He was allowed to pick his own brand new place mat at the dollar store one day, early in March, and he chose this one:FYI - at the same time his brother chose this one:Anyway, it has snowballed since then. We have colouring books, stickers, books, books on CD listened to over & over ad nauseum, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and I don't figure we are done yet. We always had some books, but now they are treated like his first born will be. They are under his pillow every night. They go everywhere with us, Sleeping Beauty came to church today. On his birthday present wish list is a Princess poster for his bedroom wall, and a Princess puzzle. So far we are so totally OK with this. He is a four year old boy, we are most thankful he isn't 14. Then
As a mother of a rough & tumble boy, anything with ‘princess’ on the cover is generally passed by. However, I’m so glad I didn’t pass by the opportunity to review the new CD Songs for the Coolest Kids by Princess Katie & Racer Steve.
Whether you have boys or girls or some of each, this CD rocks. It’s not just the sound of the tunes. (Don’t get me wrong - the tunes are great.) It’s the way they mix music kids dig with extremely necessary life lessons. Tell Them How You Feel, for example, is a whole song about feelings and talking it out to feel better, and Sid the Bully is about a boy who bullies others because he felt left out and needed someone to be his friend and show him love. As a teacher, it kind of choked me up. Embarrassing to admit, but it happened. Want to know what else is embarrassing? Walking through the grocery store all alone only to realize I’m singing “This ball belongs to…Manuel Rodriguez&hel
I’m running a series of guest posts while I work on a textbook chapter I was asked to co-write.
Today, we have some great parenting advice for those who are raising daughters, thanks to Rebecca. Rebecca also writes one of my favourite blogs, The Space Between My Peers.
If you’d like to be a guest Bargain Queen, send me an email.
Parents: begin early in teaching your daughters to shop sensibly, and when they are teens you’ll still be able to afford clothes for yourself!
Here’s what you can do for your daughters to raise sensible shoppers with great style.
From birth to age 8
Here’s looking at you, Mom. You are the role model.
Taking into consideration your child’s likes and dislikes, provide a functional wardrobe.
Encourage her to select her own outfits.
Garage sales and thrift stores are generally kid-friendly places. Frequent them.
Around the age of 9
Teach artistic principles and apply them to selecting clothes. Color harmony, scale, proportion,
This episode of I Love New York celebrated the extremes of gender stereotypes, from a frilly pink princess party to a boxing ring spattered with blood. So I guess it's no surprise that everyone came out looking ridiculous and at least slightly dehumanized. Oh, wait. That happens just about every episode, doesn't it?
Yeah, that seems about right. The episode opens with Whiteboy proclaiming his joy at the gradual winnowing down of the dudes, saying that there's less noise in the house.
I dunno. I'm getting a lot of volume off that bedspread.
The dudes meet downstairs, where Chamo delivers a note from New York. Chamo isn't given much to do on this show, so I've taken to creating alternative storylines for him. My current favorite is that on his off-hours, he brokers international arms sales but donates his commission to peace organizations out of guilt. He wants to get out of the business, but he knows too much for anyone to let him retire ... and live. Anyway. Chamo gives t
