John McCain’s efforts to pander for right-wing Christian votes reached a new level when he told the nation of his belief that only Christians were qualified to run for the presidency. He claimed the “Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation.” McCain said, “I admire Islam. There is a lot of good principles in it. But, I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles, I prefer someone I know who has a solid grounding in my faith.”
There is NO mention in the Constitution of the United States of America about God or Christian principles. The men who wrote the document were quite clear they were NOT establishing a nation based on Christian principles. Actually, the Puritans regarded the Old Testament as of equal importance to their religion as the New Testament. For those that don't follow golf closely or are new to the game the presidents cup is a team golf tournament between the USA and a team made up from every other country (except European countries). The tournament is very similar to the much older Ryder Cup between the USA and Europe. I watched President Bush earlier tonight giving his speech about Iraq and I had meant to take notes on what I thought were the high points. However, in the end there was nothing new, just the same old rah rah team lets fight the bad guys over there so they dont come over here. The Buffalo Sabres’ 2-0 shutout of the Washington Capitals clinched the Presidents’ Trophy. While Detroit creamed Chicago 7-2 and is tied in points with Buffalo, the Sabres have more wins. Buffalo still has one game to go tomorrow, against the Flyers, but Detroit has wrapped up their regular season.
The Sabres’ franchise-record 53rd win was enough to lock up the team’s first Presidents’ Trophy title and home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs that begin next week. Buffalo will wrap up the regular season Sunday at Philadelphia.
As a bonus, Tim Connolly scored a goal in his first game back since sustaining a concussion in last year’s playoffs.
