Hillary Clinton attacks the intelligentsia by cautioning against “elite opinion” in regards to economists who do not agree with the logic or rational of her gas tax holiday. Essentially, Senator Clinton is calling economists a bunch of elitists who are out of touch with regular people. Surprisingly, it's not Ron Paul who's switched parties. Firstread is reporting that Mike Gravel has changed his party registration from Democratic to Libertarian and plans to continue his longshot campaign by pursuing the Libertarian Party's nomination.
I admit I wasn't paying a lot of attention to Gravel during his early appearances at debates (he was dropped from most invite lists well before the Iowa caucuses) but he never struck me as being a candidate for joining the Libertarian Party.Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Last September, my dogs made their feelings about W and the war in Iraq pretty clear when Laverne growled at the president's speech about the war. The girls were completely unimpressed with his lies and demanded to be let out of the house immediately. Since then, they have kept their political views to themselves. That was until yesterday. I was watching Meet The Press and so was Shirley. She was at attention, tilting her head back and forth and staring at the TV like she was really paying attention. Every time they mentioned Barack Obama, she began wagging her tail a little. They showed a clip of him speaking and the tail wagging got more intense. I guess his message of hope and change really speaks to her. When I asked her if she liked Barack Obama, she wagged her tail again and

Apparently, this was the introductory video before a speech he made in Florida on Saturday. Personally, I thought it moved, sounded and felt like a parody with all the cliches about America you can throw at us.There's such a build-up to something great and mind blowing, but all we get is a petty man and exploitation artist. My favorite line is when the narrator says Giuliani stands up to tyrants, terrorists and bullies. How does he do that? Stand in front of a mirror every morning and ritually whip his own back with a cat-o'nine tails?
His long-time paranoia regarding those of color really comes out in this commercial, especially when he wants those dirty immigrants to read, write and speak English. It's less a campaign commercial than a rant in a Bensonhurst bar. His final words should have been: "And send the niggers back to Africa where they belong!" That's the Rudy I remember.

It is time for another of my guest posts over at Radioactive Liberty. As usual, I take on a topic and give it my usual snarky humor angle. As always it is about politics and society.
This week I tackle the infamous comic joke 'The Aristocrats' from a political angle. I have to give fair warning on this one: it is very very obscene. It very possibly could offend you and perhaps is the most messed-up thing I have ever written. But it is supposed to be this way.
Enjoy. Or not.
Democrat candidates ran on government reform and reducing earmarks in last November’s election. However once in power it must just be to tempting to resist earmarks, as can be seen by some of the spending by presidential candidates.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton(D-N.Y.), who has rejected Obama’s attacks that she is too close to lobbyists, arranged a $3 million earmark this spring for the development of hydrogen-fuel and hybrid technology by General Motors, whose lobbyists include one of her biggest fundraisers.
Three million dollars to a company whose lobbyists include a huge Hillary fundraiser, how typical. It’s just a coincidence I’m sure.
Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), whose presidential campaign frequently attacks excessive spending by Congress, requested more than five dozen earmarks this year worth tens of millions of dollars for causes as diverse as rebuilding a Texas theater, funding a local trolley and helping his state’s shrimp industry.

U.S. Presidential hopeful Ron Paul turned the grand age of 72 on August 20th, however the Texas congressman will be restraining from the grand celebrations until August 26th when he will be attending his Birthday BBQ bash.
A BBQ bash in honor of Ron Paul has been organized by his campaign team and is set to commence at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City, Texas and all Ron Paul supporters are invited to attend this birthday celebration.
Ron Paul appears to be an online favorite, partly because of more freedoms and less regulation of the Internet, however he is trailing in the polls with the Republican CNN Opinion Research Corporation Poll showing him receiving only 1% of the vote.
At the age of 72 is Ron Paul too old to be the next U.S. President?

Of course nothing is clear, and you don't usually know what the result will be until the end, but with the presidential election for Israel coming up in about a week, there are plenty of sources that are pressuring the Shas party and its spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef not to support Shimon Peres for president (and for those not sure, in Israel the president is chosen by the Knesset), with good reason:(IsraelNN.com) The [12] Shas MKs, who are currently slated to vote for Shimon Peres, are likely to tip the scales in favor of Peres in next week's Presidential race. Heavy pressure is being brought to bear from various directions on Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef to change his mind and enable his party MKs to vote according to their own preference - and those of their voters. At the same time, other groups, fearing that Peres will be elected President of Israel by the Knesset next week, are putting pressure on Rabbi Yosef to withdraw his support for Peres. As a follow-up read to my rant (which I feel more convicted is right on the head as bigoted, hateful Christians send me hate mail), you should read this interview with Edwards.
I’m not saying I’m a die-hard Edwards guy, or even if I will vote for him, but on a faith level, he sure seems to get it more than Ann Coulter. Ultimately, a lot of people do a good job faking it, but at least he is starting off on the right foot!
For what it’s worth, I think anybody not walking with Jesus, would be a lot more open to hearing about Jesus from John Edwards than Ann Coulter.

Political Background: Senator Indiana, Governor of Indiana
Time Period: 2000-present, 1988-1997
Joined the Race: December 5th, 2004
Front Page: I would call Evan Bayh sort of an outsider looking in at this time. Not a lot of hype for Evan within either the mainstream or netroots of the party, probably because he is most noted as a moderate Democrat with some conservative views. In fact, he was most famous during his time as Governor for not raising taxes, creating a welfare for work program, and coming down hard on crime. Sounds like a Republican. Very, very popular in Indiana, but fairly unknown elsewhere.
Bayh looks to be going with the no nonsense outsider looking to reform Washington angle in his campaign rhetoric so far. This could end up being a popular theme especially if the GOP looks to be leaning towards someone like McCain. Bayh is a talented politician, so even if he seems a longshot now, I wouldn't count him out just yet.
Political Background: Senator Kansas
Time Period: 1996-present
Joined the Race: December 4th, 2004
Front Page: The first real social conservative to join the race. In fact, if there is a social issue, then Brownback is on the right edge of it. His announcement was probably inspired by last weeks news that Bill Frist would not be the social conservative hoping for the nomination, although Brownback claims that it was prayer that was responsible for his choice. Among his biggest supporters is Pat Robinson, which I am not sure is good or bad.
I am not going to say that Brownback's bid cannot be taken seriously. After all anything can and usually does happen in politics. But a Sam Brownback nomination for the Republican party would likely propel whatever Democrat he is running against into office.
Political Background: Governor Wisconsin, Health and Human Services Secretary
Time Period: 1986-2001, 2001-2005
Joined the Race: November 15th, 2004
Front Page: Thompson was supposed to run against Herb Kohl for Senate, but instead saved himself for the biggest stage of all.
Tommy Thompson is a moderate Republican from a midwestern battleground state. He would certainly stand a good shot at winning Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa if he were to get the nomination. His main troubles might come from his moderate stances on things like stem cell research and medical entitlements. As we know, the inmates run the asylum so to speak when it comes to the primary season, so it is an uphill climb for moderates.
That being said, Thompson is the sort of candidate who could sneak up on people. He is not a well known national figure who's warts have been exposed for everyone to see... instead he could fly under the radar. As we know, Governors have been the farm leagues to the Presidency for so
Political Background: Senator Arizona
Time Period: 1986-Present
Joined the Race: November 16th, 2004
Front Page:This is McCain's second run at the Presidency. Back in 2000 he lost the nomination to the current President George W Bush after a tough and what some consider a dirty campaign.
McCain is known as a maverick and has strong appeal to Independents and even some Democrats. But as we found out in 2000, he rubbed the religious right the wrong way and may still have some issues with them during the primary season. That being said, he has moved slowly but surely to the right and towards the base over the past few years.
There are other issues with McCain as well. There is the inherent problem with a Senator being elected President. McCain will be 72 in 2008, making age a factor as well. Last, but not least... McCain is also known a little bit as a loose cannon. Bush was able to paint him as almost unstable during the 2000 primary campaign.
But even with all of his problems, ma
Political Background: Mayor of New York City 1994-2001
Recap: Probably the strongest GOP candidate for President who would most certainly pull in a large share of Independents and Democrats. The bigger problem for America's Mayor would be winning the Republican nomination, as the process is usually not friendly to socially moderate candidates, much less socially liberal ones like Rudy. Guiliani is pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control, and even pro-immigration. In other words he is socially left of most of the Democrats who took seats from the GOP in 2006. But in spite of what many hard right Republicans will view as social flaws, Giuliani might just make up for it with his reputation for fiscal conservatism, crime control, and overall competency.
Guiliani announced yesterday (November 13th) his intentions of forming a committee to raise money in order to "explore" the idea of running for President. In other words, he is officially in the race.
Political Background: Governor of Iowa 1999-Present (retiring)
Recap: With big names like Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards, and John Kerry being mentioned, Tom Vilsack seems like a long shot at best. At least until one remembers that Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter were all former Governors. Vilsack was mentioned quite a bit in 2004 as a possible Vice Presidential Candidate and it considered an up and comer.
Vilsack is a member of the National Governors Association and is a former Chair for the Democratic Governors Association. Vilsack (a Catholic) is usually seen as sort of your down to earth rural sort of guy who's major legislative causes has been the fight against the percieved evils of big business. He has pushed for bills that back higher pay, health coverage, and other benefits. I would see him as your classic liberal populist who will likely wage the fighting for the little guy (ala Al Gore) sort of campaign.
With the Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa) being a parti
