While there are many ways in which we can spread this awareness, and make contributions toward breast cancer awareness and research, one way is knowing that a portion of the price you pay for your favourite products goes towards these missions. Here is a video that Matt Heller (hellafrisch blogger and Calgary Philharmonic member) recently posted on his blog. Here he plays an excerpt from the Prelude of the first Bach cello suite. It's great to hear Matt play again after reading so much of his writing for the past year. Matt and I played in the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and American Russian Youth Orchestra together, and we also studied with Michael Hovnanian at Northwestern and played in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, although our time at these institutions did not overlap. So did I tell ya that we (as in the famiglia) are going on vacation next week? We are driving down to Florida. Yes, driving. We go down there every year and most of the time we drive. Most people I tell that to say, "You are DRIVING? With 3 little kids?" Gulp.Actually, the kids travel very well in the van, and a DVD player (with headphones!) really helps! We load the van up with pillows, blankets, snacks and toys. I pack up the van the night before (but I need to start packing the luggage NOW) and we'll head out at 00:dark:30 next Saturday morning (the 14th). Hubby and I will take turns driving, and we'll stop in North Carolina that night, arriving in Florida on Sunday.Today, not feeling 100% (thanks again for the well wishes), I don't feel like going through all of the kids summer clothes to figure out what I need to buy.
