Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released their second preliminary installment of the Q1 2008 GDP report showing a anemic annual growth rate of 0.9%.This continuation of dramatically slower growth was primarily the result of accelerating declines in fixed residential investment, a moderate decline in fixed non-residential investment, and far from outstanding growth in both the export o

Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released their second installment of the Q4 2007 GDP report showing a truly anemic annual growth rate of 0.6%.This stunning reversal from the exceptionally “hot” rate of growth seen in Q3 2007 was fueled primarily by accelerating declines in fixed residential investment, slowing growth to fixed non-residential investment, and a sudden deceleration in the export of goods to a much weaker 4.0% growth rate.In fact, the deceleration to the export of goods was so severe that it seems altogether possible that the Q3 26.6% growth rate was an temporary aberration, a result of there being a brief disconnect between the slowing U.S. economy (and weak dollar) and the rest of the world economies relative strength. Now that the world economies are slowing

Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released their second installment of the Q3 2007 GDP report showing an upwardly revised growth rate of 4.9%, buoyed by strength in, among other things, nonresidential structures, outstanding exports of goods, and federal, state and local government spending while continuing to be weighed down by tremendous weakness to fixed residential investment.Residential fixed investment, that is, all investment made to construct or improve new and existing residential structures including multi–family units, renewed its historic fall-off registering a whopping decline of 19.7% since last quarter while shaving 1.03% from overall GDP.Housing continues to be, by far, the most substantial single drag on GDP subtracting an amount greater than the contributions made by all personal consumption of durable (cars, furniture, etc.) and non-durable goods (food, clothing, gasoline, fuel oil) during the quarter. The following chart shows real residential and non-re
There are 14 places available and 51 teams.Regarding the format, here's some food for thought:1. Platini doesn't like groups of seven and eight teams. "I wasn't really happy with the format for the last qualifying competition with groups of seven and eight teams" said UEFA President Michel Platini.2. UEFA tends to move towards groups with five or six teams. That's the format used for U21 qualifiers. See the regulations of the U21 championships:Article 7.02:The number of teams per group should not, in principle, be less then five or more than six.3. With more groups, the differences among teams from one pot can be significant.4. FAs don't really like the "worst second place stays home" scenario. We might see six groups of six teams and three of five teams. The winners and best runners-up wou
Francisco Cordero has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement on a four-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds. The contract is reportedly $46 million. The deal, which includes a club option for a fifth year, is subject to Cordero passing a physical exam.
“There still isn’t anything concrete,” Cordero said. “I would have liked to stay in Milwaukee, but it’s not up to me. We will see what happens with the management and the owners of the Brewers, because we are willing to hear their offers.”
Doug Melvin, Brewers general manager have offered Cordero a four-year, $42 million deal with an option for a fifth year.
Loudoun County home sales for the month of September will more than likely be the lowest in almost 5 years. With only 2 days left in the month, total sales for Loudoun County stand at 215 and will finish somewhere near 250. Not since December of 2002 have sales for the county been below 300 for any month.
The liquidity crisis that shot interest rates up for jumbo loans, the rising foreclosures and the stubborn level of inventory have finally taken their toll on the demand side of the equation. We will probably see a decrease in median sales prices of 3-5% in the fourth quarter in order to stimulate flagging demand.
Here is a chart of the last 13 months of sales data for Loudoun County. It shows a trend of lower sales each month that started in May.
by Yong Yen NieKUALA LUMPUR: Credit company RCE Capital Bhd wants to acquire a stake in Malaysia Building Society Bhd (MBSB) from the latter’s controlling shareholder, Employees Provident Fund (EPF), towards expanding its business operations, RCE executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim said.“It makes sense, because we are in the financing business and MBSB is also a finance house. If we want to expand, this will be one way to do it,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a signing ceremony for the issuance of RM1.5 billion asset-backed securities by RCE’s wholly-owned subsidiary RCE Marketing Sdn Bhd via Tresor Assets Bhd.However, he did not say whether RCE was eyeing EPF’s entire stake of 54% in MBSB, as matters pertaining to the bidding process were still at “very preliminary” stages.Azman denied that RCE had formed a partnership with Kuwait Finance House (KFH) to bid for the MBSB stake held by EPF. “At the moment, we are on our own,” he said. It had been speculated

Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released their second installment of the Q2 2007 GDP report showing higher than expected growth of 4.0%, buoyed by strength in nonresidential structures and federal, state and local government spending, a decline in imports while continuing to be weighed down by weakness to fixed residential investment. It’s important to keep in mind that today’s results are still preliminary and will not be finalized until the next installment.Residential fixed investment, that is, all investment made to construct or improve new and existing residential structures including multi–family units, continued its historic fall-off registering a decline of 11.6% since last quarter while shaving .61% from overall GDP.Housing continues to be, by far, the most substantial single drag on GDP subtracting an amount roughly equivalent to the contributions made by all exports of goods during the quarter. The following chart shows real residential and non-residential f

Yesterday we had a Licensing Agent (to be called Jessica) come from the agency that we're working with to get certified for foster-to-adopt through the state. She was at our house to do a preliminary walk-through of our house to see if any improvements needed to be made before our actual homestudy home inspection was scheduled.I'm happy to say that we had almost everything in order! We carefully reviewed the list that I've attached to this post (click on the image to enlarge) before she arrived, so that helped. There were a couple of suggestions that she had and I'd like to share them with you, in case you ever go through this yourself.1) The plastic Safety 1st cabinets and drawers locks we had will not pass inspection with the state. She recommended that we get magnetic Tot Loks instead because those will pass inspection. I must confess, I've never even heard of these. Jessica said we can find them at Home Depot. I'll bet they're sold at Babies R Us too.2) We're not allowed to
Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released their second installment of the Q1 2007 GDP Report showing truly anemic growth of 0.6% weighed down by, amongst other things, continued weakening to fixed residential investment.Major praise has to go to Professor Nouriel Roubini for his accurate forecasting having called this deceleration to GDP well in advance as well as virtually nailing the actual figure earlier this month in his post on the “growth recession” while the advance GDP report suggested that growth was closer to 1.3%.Residential fixed investment, that is, all investment made to construct or improve new and existing residential structures including multi–family units, continued its historic fall-off registering a decline of 15.4% since last quarter while shaving .87% from overall GDP.Housing continues to be, by far, the most substantial drag on GDP subtracting an amount roughly surpassing to the contributions made by ALL non-durable goods including food, clothin

"Fisher" Prelim Sketch6X8Graphite PencilNFS I have been commissioned to do a portrait of a little rescued dog who was lucky enough to find adoring new owners. Good for him and good for them!!One of my art instructors told me once that you can't paint unless you can draw. I have lived it and it is really true....it all starts with drawing. So this portrait is beginning with a small drawing and when I get to the painting I will then have the color issues to work out. I'll be working on "dailies" in between my sessions with this little fellow...but if I don't post each day, you'll know what I am working on. :)
