Blackhawks and Predators Free Agent Needs
Blackhawks: There have been rumblings about the Blackhawks' interest in adding pop to the lineup, with a puck-moving defenseman on their shopping list. They could go high, after Brian Campbell, or get a younger, less expensive option like John-Michael Liles. The plan is to continue letting a strong young talent base mature and to supplement it with compatible talent. Predators: Don't expect too

      Hunting the internet predators
"At the coalface are specialist officers, always working in pairs, who look at image after image of the most horrific child abuse. They scan the faces of the victims with specialist software, creating digital maps that can be compared with hundreds of thousands of other images to find matches. They look at the borders of the images and at the backgrounds. Are there clues to the location, even the country? Electrical sockets, furnishings and books can all narrow down the search. On average it takes two months to trace each child."[via bbc news]

Canucks kick the Hell out of Clawless Predators 6-2
5 goals scored in the first 6:21 of the game...madness. The Canucks jumped to 2 goal leads only to have Luongo choke, allowing 2 goals and putting the Preds within 1 goal TWICE. But then the game settled down....for the Canucks not Nashville. The Preds looked uncharacteristically sluggish and sloppy in their own zone and the Canucks made them pay dearly, leading 4-2 after the first period. Vancouver outshot Nashville 24-9 in the first period alone, and 44-23 overall. The Preds just couldn't get anything going, and whenever they did after the 6:21 mark of the 1st, Luongo stopped them. You'd think this would be the easiest post in the world to write but with work and what not it's been quite difficult to get this up. The Nashville Predators are not only our Central Division Rivals, but they are also my cousins favorite team. Needless to say we get into quite a few arguments over this. When you look at the Nashville Predators of last year and compare them to the Predators of this year I don't really think there is any comparison. Last year they had Paul Kariya, Kimmo Timonen, and at the trade deadline picking up Peter Forsberg, this year when you look at their team you don't really see any of those "stars" but their young guys really stepped up last year and I am sure this year they will have only improved. There are so many reasons why I hate the Preds, Jordin Tootoo, the fact that we lost every game that we played them last season. Predators Nearing Deal With Local Investors - Team To Stay In Nashville
Just because it's summer doesn't mean nothing is happening within the NHL. And I thought this bit of news was worth mentioning...The Nashville Predators, whom are still considered a new team, are dotting the I's and crossing the T's on the deal to keep the team in Nashville. There are eight investors involved. Only one investor, William "Boots" Del Biaggio III, is not from Nashville. Actually, according to the AP article, Biaggio is also part-owner of the San Jose Sharks. You'd think there would be a conflict of interest there... if he wasn't in it for the pure profit, of course. In my opinion, the Predators are a team worth holding on to. Owner Craig Leipold claims he has lost $70 million since June, 1997. However, the team has made the playoffs the past three seasons which should have generated extra profit. Perhaps the team is not to blame, but financial mismanagement instead? Again, just my opinion. For the article, click here.

      Flyers acquire 2 Predators
According to TSN: Because of Nashville's uncertain ownership future and an expected tight budget in the coming year, sources tell TSN the Predators arranged with the Flyers to give them exclusive negotiating rights to two coveted free agents - defenceman Kimmo Timonen and forward Scott Hartnell.Apparently, they have signed Hartnell to a 6-year, $25.2 million deal that pays him $4.2 million perseason. That seems a tad high for a guy who scored 22 goals and 39 points in 64 games last season. He must have a terrific upside. They have signed Kimmo Timmonen to a 6-year, $37.8 million contract, paying him $6.3 million per season. Wow the stock in defenceman is still insanely high. The Preds are so deep on defence that Kimmo was expedible anyway. The defenceman had 13 goals and 55 points in 80 games last season. The Flyers were sorely lacking an effective offensive defenceman last season. In exchange for these 2 signings, Nashville gets back their first overall pick that was originally acquire

Tonight we can guage the Canucks' performance against a legitimate contender in Nashville, who are in top spot in the West right now. The teams have met 3 times this year, and the Canucks have only won once. The last time they played eachother was November 23rd in Nashville, a 6-0 loss to the Preds. Markus Naslund has been in a funk as far as goal-scoring goes, but has been impressing Alain Vigneault with his desire to break it. “When you’re going through adversity, you’re not going just come out of it, you’ve got to do something to [get out of it] and that’s what he did. He’s going out early, he’s working with Louie, working on his game, he’s coming in and watching videos so for me there’s a lot of positives also.” There is a possibility that Willie Mitchell could play tonight, but I think that is unlikely. Predator Mimicry: Metalmark Moths Mimic Their Jumping Spider Predators
An open access/free paper (includes video) from PLoS ONE: Predator Mimicry: Metalmark Moths Mimic Their Jumping Spider Predators by Jadranka Rota (info), David L. Wagner* (info) Abstract Cases of mimicry provide many of the nature's most convincing examples of natural selection. Here we report evidence for a case of predator mimicry in which metalmark moths in the genus Brenthia mimic jumping spiders, one of their predators. In controlled trials, Brenthia had higher survival rates than other similarly sized moths in the presence of jumping spiders and jumping spiders responded to Brenthia with territorial displays, indicating that Brenthia were sometimes mistaken for jumping spiders, and not recognized as prey. Our experimental results and a review of wing patterns of other insects indicate that jumping spider mimicry is more widespread than heretofore appreciated, and that jumping spiders are probably an important selective pressure shaping the evolution of diurnal insects that per

Etisalat (Emirates Telecommunications Corp) and China Mobile already fought for a slice of Pakistan Telecommunications Co last year, but MIC offers more than a few crumbs (10M clients across 16 markets totalling 390M people).
