Sometimes I just love being a blogger. I love the fact that I can connect with someone I wouldn't normally connect with and see that that what I've been communicating has resonated with an audience member. Case in point. My "office" is in Dayton, OH, but I normally work remotely from South Carolina. I know - heck of a commute but just spend one February in Ohio and one in South Carolina and you'll nod...
We love to sing praises to God but we often don't think about it. Does God care what we sing or how we sing? I think that is a fair question. Does God have much to say about it in His Word? Yes in fact He has a great deal to say about it. So for two lessons we are going to look at the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How of singing praises to God.

Today I want to sing the praises of the "Emory Center for Lifelong Learning" which offers the popular "Evening at Emory" program of non-credit courses and classes for personal growth and enrichment. Most people learn something by taking one of their classes, but I gained a marvelous refresher course on human kindness precisely because I didn't attend a single class. Here's the story:

According to Japanese researchers paying people a compliment appears to activate the same reward centre in the brain as paying them cash. The study offers scientific support for the long-held assumption that people get a psychological boost from having a good reputation. Specially created team studied 19 healthy people using a brain imaging technique known as functional magnetic resonance imaging or fMRI. In one set of experiments, people played a gambling game in which they were told one of three cards would yield a payout. The researchers then monitored the brain activity triggered when the subjects received a cash reward. In a second set of experiments, people were told they were being evaluated by strangers based on information from a personality questionnaire and a video they had ma
When i watched the news this morning and saw the story about police cruisers using their cars to ram suspected wrong doers of color i nearly got a tear in my eye. Not because of how surprising the cop car dash camera footage was, i have seen this tactic dozens of times in real life. I have experienced police attitudes so many times and expect i will until the day i die, so it's really no big thing. What was a big thing is that now it can be seen by those who think (wrongly) that every black defendant or "runner" on television deserves what they get. I know how it looks from an outside perspective to someone who knows little if nothing about being poor and black in America.I can hear a hundred voices asking the obvious question, "why run if you are not guilty?" And the best answer i can giv

"Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. A 'you can do it' when things are tough." -Richard M. DeVos, Co-founder of Amway, Richard M. DeVos books//I'm a very strong believer in the power of praise to influence behavior in others. As leaders, it is important to let people know the things that they do right and encourage them to repeat behaviors that produce good results.I really like the book How Full is Your Bucket by Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton (Click here to purchase it). The book uses the metaphor of filling a bucket to illustrate the importance and impact of filling other people's souls with praise and positivity. Think you're good at filling buckets? Take the Positive Impact Test to see if you're right.Many people h
Forget Whale sounds, this is as soothing as several Paracetamol on a Sunday morning. If only Spiritualized had used this template for all those Gospel tinged albums they produced after they ditched the sound of Spacemen 3 (thankfully ‘Song in A&E’ appears to be a return to form). Amnion is the work of husband and wife team Nikki and Aaron Embry (who toured with Elliott Smith in 2000) and a host of other contributors. The collective have already recorded an album called ‘AmenNamO’ despite only being officially together for just over 6 months. ‘Praise God For The Light Within Me’ really reminded me of an EP from Lovebabies called ‘Blue Earth Angel’ which came out a decade ago. It won’t sweep you off your feet like a whirlwind romance, instead it gnaws away at your affection

While it was disappointing to go down to Gamba Osaka in the dying minutes of what had been a pulsating match, the reality is that on the night the better team probably won. Although Gamba Osaka is making a habit of scoring in the penultimate minutes of matches having done so in all of their ACL games so far this campaign. But what grabbed my attention, and it may be stating the obvious, was that ACL football is so much better than A-League football. It was my first ACL game in the flesh as I had missed the opening game against Chunnam Dragons due to work commitments. The style of play is better, the technical ability of teams comes to the fore, and of course the support is better.Starting with the style of play. It was of much slower pace and thus more controlled than A-League, where teams

The "Mercy" singer believes it is healthy for fans to see their idols’ flaws because it shows everybody has problems in their lives. She said: "In a really weird way, I think those kind of people show others it’s all right to be human - for all their faults." Duffy, 23, says she has not always been a good girl, but is happy with her current quiet lifestyle. "Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well." -Dwight D. Eisenhower, Former General and 34th President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower books//Great leaders understand the importance of sharing credit with subordinates. The problem with giving all of the credit to others, though, is that it comes across as disingenuous. Leaders create the environment for success to occur, so they deserve recognition for what they do.Leaders must stand alone, though, in taking responsibility for things that goes wrong. By doing so, the leader earns respect from both superiors and subordinates. This respect is squandered, however, if the leader does not act quickly to course correct and

In Indonesia, as well as in many other parts of Asia, age is not viewed as a debilitating sickness that ought to make you seek refuge in some random retirement house among your peers. Much to the contrary: it is what gives you your rightful place in society. This TV ad from a cigarette company (ok... sorry for the source) is a funny example of this cultural bias. You don't need to understand anything except for their tag line "Not old yet. Not yet allowed to talk".

Syracuse, New York indie band Ra Ra Riot, have made impressive traction within the indie rock/pop world during the past year, thanks largely to a widely-acclaimed debut EP, 'blogger buzz' and opening for groups like the Editors, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Bow Wow Wow. Ra Ra Riot lives up to their name delivering unabashed chamber indie pop performed with exuberance, the fine-tuned mix of guitars and drums with violins and cellos and a frantic, but jubilant, stage performance.In fact, the band caught the attention of many attendees, other musicians, bloggers and mainstream press at the 2008 South by Southwest Conference in Austin earlier this month.And what is even more admirable is that Ra Ra Riot was able to continue on after the tragic loss of their drummer, John Pike

After watching the video of Kelsey, who went home to be with the Lord in 2005, I have learnt to be thankful for the little boy I've been blessed with. It has also reminded me to be careful with my discipline style and intentions at all times. How easy for us to lose control when we get upset and make wrong decisions on child discipline.It's also important for a parent to realize that children thrive on praise. Parents in such a situation may always jump to discipline but fail to praise their child for their good deeds, behaviors and traits. Children instinctively want to please their parents and make them proud. By encouraging positive behavior, the parent will most likely discourage the behavior that has driven them in the past to punish too harshly. In order to encourage positive beha

“When the road is rough and steep and it leads a heart to weep, there’s an ocean of tears that you’ve held through the years but we’re not stopping here.” I try my best to neglect these holy days because my friend Paul of Tarsus has taught me to hold each day in holy esteem, and to live each day as if my Savior has risen anew (Romans 14:5, etc). But I’ve been made aware of how important this day is to some and have decided that this year I will share praise with my friends who walk the earth as participants. “The King of all the earth has saved us from ourselves.” Amen to that. The kingdom of God is within, and how often I neglect this truth. “Through the avenues of time You meet me where I am. We walk with glory and pain, and You’ve broken through the chain, so there

Praise Your Children - How Much And How Should You Praise Your Child - Praising your child is necessary but one must know how much one ought to do so. Is the goal of the parent to keep a happy child at home? Or should you be very strict and go by the dictum: "Spare the rod and spoil the child"? Or must you ensure a balance? Between keeping her happy and keeping her disciplined? More: continued here Other Review: Baby Trend Travel System (Baby Product)
Praise Your Children - Do You Praise Your Children Often Enough - You must praise your children but install discipline in their hearts too. The balance is important and cannot be overemphasized. Praising too much or too little: both have deleterious effects on the child. Nor should praise be used as a currency to eke out discipline. So much misguided and misinformed negativity pervades the internet on the subject of outsourcing that it's a wonder any company large or small does it. But they do. Big businesses especially reap huge rewards from optimizing their workforce in the way that only outsourcing can accomplish. It's time small businesses and medium sized businesses start competing with the same tools. In response to the prevalent indictment of outsourcing spreading like a virus across the web, here is one writer's exoneration of the practice, at American Venture Magazine.

After the madness of Christmas, there's nothing quite like sitting in the shade on a hot summer day, eating cold turkey sandwiches, reading the paper and chatting with friends. And if the venue happens to be the grand Melbourne Cricket Ground and there's a cricket game in action - all the better.
Boxing Day (December 26) is the traditional first day of the epic sports fest known as a Test Match. Tests are cricket matches that last five days. This year, the all-conquering Australian team take on an experienced (i.e., aging) India in a four-test series that kicks off in Melbourne. With a stunning batting line-up and none-too-shabby bowlers, the Indians are no easy-beats; they've just come off series wins against England and Pakistan. And although the Indians have never won a series in Australia, we can expect a great tussle.
Last year almost 80,000 people flocked to Boxing Day to watch the Aussies play traditional rivals England. And while it's unlikely there'll be quite as

I looked up the word and it meant, in essence, the caretaker of plants. Since I was an experienced horticulturist, it sent me off on a road that lead to the knowledge that I was a seedling planted long ago -- when I was a young child and asked Jesus to come live in my heart -- and God had been a very patient husbandman with me as I searched in all the wrong places.. Democrats in congress voted to recognize Islam as "one the of the great religions of the world" and condemned the persecution of Muslims around the world. They also voted to honor the Islamic holiday of Ramadan. Now there's nothing wrong with condemning the persecution of anyone or respecting the religion of anyone, but there is something wrong when Democrats vote for religious tolerance for Muslims but refuse to do the same for Christians, especially when it is known that Christians are the most persecuted people in the world, more than any other peoples around the world.The Ramadan resolution began:Whereas Ramadan is the holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal for Muslims worldwide, and is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar year; and Whereas the observance of the Islamic holy month of Ramandan commenced at dusk on September 13, 2007, and continues for one lunar month:"The Christmas resolution began:Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other

I had a fabulous evening of tango recently, much to my surprise, and thanks to the supply of good dance partners -- most of whom were over 60.I haven't been dancing regularly for the past year, mostly due to a shoulder injury, but also because we didn't have good experiences at tango whenever we went. Either the music was boring, the social scene was snoozy, and/or the dancing was mediocre.This past Friday night, Rajeev and I headed out to a swing dance, only to discover that it was canceled and another party was taking place (to which we weren't invited and for which were sorely under dressed). All psyched up for dancing, we headed off to tango instead. It was a really nice atmosphere at Cafe Casablanca that night. The music was great, thanks to Brent's DJing, and there was a good mix of men and women in the room, ensuring that everyone danced a lot. Lo and behold I actually got asked to dance too. So much so that my unseasoned feet were struggling to keep me upright in high heels
This song for Shabbat has a special meaning for me as, with thanksgiving, I seek God’s own Will for me following the episode at work last Friday.
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Dallas Cowboys won the BIG game last night by beating the Packers 37-27 and getting themselves a place in the playoffs. 11-1, unbelievable.Yet in the court of public opinion (i.e. sportswriters) it was a game that Dallas probably shouldn't have won, and nary a scant bit of praise caqn be found the the NFC's best team:Don Banks, Sports Illustrated: "Did you notice how the tide turned when the younger Rodgers entered the game and started making a few plays outside of the pocket and rolling to his right? I was wondering, do deeply religious dyslexics praise the glory of Dog? If so, when they are any prig to Dog, do they ape Sir Dog for bless gin them with their Axis Deli? (Translation: If so, when they are praying to God, do they praise God for blessing them with their dyslexia?) A more important question is, will I burn in hell for this post? I'm a devout atheist, but, just in case I'm wrong about the whole God thing and I will burn in hell for this, I'm going to start carrying a lot of hot dogs (no God pun intended) and marshmallows around with me all of the time. One never knows when one is going to die, so I want to make sure I have them with me when I go. Hot dogs and marshmallows will come in handy if campfires are going to be a major part of my infinite future.Damn! I guess I'm going to have to learn the words to Kum Ba Ya too.
I lift you high in praise, my God, O my King!
and I’ll bless Your name into eternity.
I’ll bless You every day,
and keep it up from now to eternity.
God is magnificent; He can never be praised enough.
There are no boundaries to His greatness.
Generation after generation stands in awe of Your work;
each one tells stories of Your mighty acts.
Your beauty and splendor have everyone talking;
I compose songs on Your wonders.
Your marvelous doings are headline news;
I could write a book full of the details of Your greatness.
The fame of Your goodness spreads across the country;
Your righteousness is on everyone’s lips.
God is all mercy and grace—
not quick to anger, is rich in love.
God is good to one and all;
everything He does is suffused with grace.
Creation and creatures applaud You, God;
Your holy people bless You.
They talk about the glories of Your rule,
they exclaim over Your splendor,
Letting the world know of Your power for good,
the lavish splendor of Your kin

I’ve been contemplating for a while having a Sunday post were I shared some of my favorite scripture versus. I hadn’t done it yet as a number of other Christian blogs do the same thing. While I believe this is a great thing to do, I wanted to be a little different.
I’ve decided instead to share lyrics from some of my favorite contemporary Christian music artist. Let me know your thoughts on this and if this is something you enjoy reading or not.
Here’s a song from Casting Crowns, Praise You in the Storm (affiliate link):
I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining
But as the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands

It is not right that while Walcott was very, very impressive in his role in last night’s victory, most pundits and fans alike missed out our very own Belarusian genius’ role in one of the most complete footballing performances of recent times. This was clear when the ITV commentator screamed ‘Arsenal and England!’ that most other players were to be left the scraps of praise after a young Englishman appeared to have gotten his break at the most aesthetically pleasing football club in the country.
Yet as this happened, there aren’t enough adjectives to describe how well Hleb has been playing recently and his role in the destruction of Slavia Prague. Done Howe, the former Arsenal manager, claimed some months ago that Hleb can play a similar role in this side as Messi does for Barcelona (this is not to directly compare the two players in any way). After witnessing his form this season it is hard to understand why he could not fulfil such a ro

Good grief. When I go down, I go down hard. Didja think I was dead? You did, huh?
That little bit of food poisoning seemed to magically manifest itself in every single member of my family by the end of the week, so you can imagine how far I was from being able to post or even look at the computer for a while there. This past weekend, I delivered my second commissioned piece, "Sunset Dream" to its new owner. As she opened her eyes after I took it out of my portfolio, the look of astonishment and amazement as to its beauty will be something I will never forget.To have someone appreciate your artwork to such a degree after giving you minimal instructions on what they want and never seeing it in progress, is the best reward an artist can ever get!! I highly recommend any artist to do commissioned work, whether it be for a large corporation, small company, or for a person's home. It will verify your ability to please others with your creations, and such satisfaction is better than any amount of money you can earn for it.

I was browsing the web/complaining to vampires that my sleeping schedule was out of whack when I saw the following pic of Miss India Sara Jane Dias at the inauguration of Richfeel Hair and Scalp Clinic in Banglore on Sept 25, 2007.In the past, I have been vocal (I feel I did manage to restrain myself) about bad make-up and I realized I have praised good make-up only once. Once. Let me clarify that I am not a bitter woman who is cursing the celebs behind the computer because I want to secretly be them. I am content to merely live vicariously through them, but I can only do that if I agree with their make-up habits. So I decided to reward some much needed praise to Sara Jane Dias and the great job her make-up artist did.Apart from the fact that I absolutely love the vibrant colours and patterns on her salwar that compliment her skin like bullying mothers-in-law do a desi soap-opera, Sara's make-up is understated but I don't think it's boring at all. On the contrary, the look is sophis
Witter produced a dazzling performance to beat Harris Clinton Woods says fellow British world champion Junior Witter has not received the praise he deserved for his latest WBC light welterweight defence. Witter knocked out Guyanese Vivian Harris in seven rounds to retain his title in Doncaster two weeks ago. And Woods, who defends his IBF light heavyweight crown in Sheffield on Saturday told BBC Sport: “I feel for Junior, he should have got more credit. “Harris was a genuine world more…

The book of Psalms is a great place to find comfort. Each time in my life when I have been especially “deeply” troubled by something, the Holy Ghost takes me to the book of Psalms and there I find words of wisdom, comfort, refuge and peace.

National and international airlines have praised an overall improved service at Suvarnabhumi airport which will mark its first anniversary on Sep 28, airport director Serirat Prasutanond said Thursday. He said a number of airline managers have lauded the continuous improvement of service at Suvarnbhumi airport, adding that airport officials had followed up on arising problems and worked out solutions accordingly. One of the positive changes is a permission for licensed taxis to offer service on the second floor of the passenger terminal, starting Oct. 1 to solve the problem of unauthorized taxis touting for passengers, Serirat said. The ongoing improvement of the airport includes additional restrooms in October and more check-in counters for passengers soon. Serirat said the CTX luggage scanner system has been fully operated after some technical problems earlier. On the noise pollution which has triggered dissatisfaction among residents near the airport, Serirat saidnegotiations with a
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!All ye who hear,now to his temple draw near;praise him in glad adoration.Praise to the Lord, who over all things so wondrously reigneth,shelters thee under his wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!Hast thou not seenhow thy desires ever have beengranted in what he ordaineth?Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.Ponder anewwhat the Almighty can do,if with his love he befriend thee.Praise to the Lord, who, when tempests their warfare are waging,who, when the elements madly around thee are raging,biddeth them cease,turneth their fury to peace,Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.Praise to the Lord, who, when darkness of sin is abounding,who, when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding,sheddeth his light,chaseth the horrors of night,saints with his mercy surrounding.P
Psalm 139Search Me, O God, and Know My HeartTo the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.LORD, you have searched me and known me!You know when I sit down and when I rise up;you discern my thoughts from afar.You search out my path and my lying downand are acquainted with all my ways.Even before a word is on my tongue,behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.You hem me in, behind and before,and lay your hand upon me.Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;it is high; I cannot attain it.Where shall I go from your Spirit?Or where shall I flee from your presence?If I ascend to heaven, you are there!If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!If I take the wings of the morningand dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,even there your hand shall lead me,and your right hand shall hold me.If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me,and the light about me be night,"even the darkness is not dark to you;the night is bright as the day,for darkness is as light with you.For you formed my inward parts;you knitte
I've been a little down these past few weeks, mainly because this time tomorrow some very close friends of mine will be leaving for China. A trip which I was this close to going on, but in the end, just couldn't raise the money. It's a two week trip, and I'll miss them like crazy (as well as starting a 'class-overseas-trip' savings account for next time), but I just know they'll have a fabulous time. So to deal with my pre-trip grieving, I decided to flip through my new Russh.Within the first few pages, I was already feeling better. Since the first time I picked up a Russh magazine (and bought it shortly after), reading it has been like travelling back in time. Or even to another world. A very glamorous one, of course. To this day, Russh, thanks to it's fabulous editors and contributors, manages to defy the stereotypes of fashion magazines, daring to go against the grain.It's retro, but modern at the same time, displaying and recommending trends a season or so before they beco
Charlie Rose, who is among the most respected talk show hosts, has been upset lately by the lack of good conversation in the world. And indeed, if one looks around today, it seems that little earnest conversation takes place.
Instead TV “talk” shows–and especially on cable “news” channels–seem have become havens for soundbites and little more. People seem to yell more than they talk, or listen for that matter. Public officials, even, seem barely capable of working together to understand each other, or to have much desire to try.
Indeed, when Barack Obama suggested that this country should sit down and have a talk with some of our most well-known enemies, he was chastised and made to apologize for suggesting that we should talk to each other. The world seems to have gone topsy-turvy; the quest for understanding has been abandoned and we are instead waging a war with each other that will be won by the side with the best sloganeers and banner makers.

Guest EditorialFidel UmagaMovement for a Free PhilippinesWhen I read Conrado Dequiroz's article on The PDI dated August 28, 2007 entitled, "The pen is ( still) mightier than the sword", I could not help but give also my own comment on what he read but coming from another drift.
Mr. De Quiroz said he was prompted to make that article after reading a sign that was set up by soldiers during a wake
More details on how that awful FISA bill made it through a Democratically controlled House are starting to leak out. Jonathan Alter reports:
Here’s what we do know. We know that the Democratic leadership rightly conceded to Adm. Michael McConnell, the once widely respected director of National Intelligence, to allow eavesdropping on foreigner-to-foreigner communications routed through American phone companies (no biggie; we’ve always spied on foreigners). We know that the Democrats thought they had a deal until McConnell, who is supposed to be nonpartisan, went back to the White House and got fresh marching orders to squelch reasonable judicial oversight by the FISA court. And we know that the administration’s new position was that the attorney general (the disgraced Alberto Gonzales) should have the sole authority to spy without a warrant on any American talking to a foreigner, even if it’s you and the guy from Mumbai fixing your printer.
Then the Democrats sai
Sometimes reading the Xbox 360 positive news ends up sound more like a pissing contest between the 360 and the PS3. Instead, lets just look at two recent quotes that stood out as just more so overall positive rather than being attacks against other consoles, this isn’t a news story or an article, just two quick blips to make you happy you own the best console:
“…the 360, which is the platform we do a lot of the initial work on, as it’s very developer friendly and contained…unlike a PC, where even in the office it can be hard to get the same results on everyone’s system. That’s one area the 360 really excels–awesome development tools.” - Todd Howard, Bethesda (Elder Scrolls: Obvlion) producer, interview regarding Fallout 3’s demo using the 360 version for their displays.
” it makes financial sense to focus on finishing the games for the Xbox 360 first because there are more 360s in the market than PS3s. More consoles mean
THE 19th tip in the 31 days to becoming a better dad is to give your children praise daily.
Praising our children is a powerful motivator, for good or bad. The key to praising your kids correctly is to quantify the praise you give them. According to this article, simply praising your child without explaining the "why" actually leads to lower performance.
Though we want our children to believe in themselves, that they are smart and worthy, instilling these beliefs takes a little more effort than just telling them they are so. Like good writers, good parents "show" their children why they are worthy of praise instead of just telling them they are.
Next time your child does something you are proud of them for or accomplishes something new in their life, show them how proud you are by saying something like "I'm very proud of you for getting a "B" on your speech in class today. I know how hard you have worked to get over your fear of talking in front of the class. Public speaking
Star Jones Reynolds has been taking a media and blog-lynching for years. Clearly due to the current heat on Microsoft concerning the Xbox 360 RROD, disk scratching, and overheating scandals, Sony's Dave Karraker is mooning on the company's official blog over a recent PS3 Vault "stress test" called "How to kill a PS3 console" which showed the company's game system to be surprisingly resilient in the face of extreme conditions. "A lot of noise has been made recently about the reliability issues of one of our competitor's systems," Karraker said, then went on to kick some sand in Redmond's eye by adding "Did it fail? Nope. Like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going." Admittedly, the tests -- which included running games and Blu-ray movies for 108 hours in a typical "living room" environment, placing the console in a freezer van then lowering the temperature from 50 degrees to zero, and powering the PS3 in a sauna where heat increased from 100 degrees to 120 degrees over a nearly three-day session -- were quite extreme.
I had the good fortune of marrying a Midwesterner. My wife, Aimee, is from Indiana. Before we met I didn’t know much about her home state. Purdue, Larry Bird, the Colts — that’s pretty much all I could tell you about the Hoosier State before we were married. (Note to self: what’s a Hoosier? I must ask Aimee.)

Each spring Aimee and I have a version of the same argument: to visit or not to visit Indiana in summer, in order to spend time with her family. We already trek to Indiana each Christmas holiday, and let me tell you, Indiana is not a recommended travel destination in December.
So I’m always hesitant to commit to an additional summertime visit, especially when we could travel instead to Spain, Turkey, France, Italy, Thailand… to anywhere BUT Indiana.
This year I relented and decided we could go to Indiana for a summer holiday. (Note to self: explain to Aimee that I feel better using words like “relented” and &
Think of the Pearl District and what comes to mind? Condos, restaurants, art galleries? Yes, yes, and yes.Portland's Pearl District has obviously been a big hit with locals, but it's also a large draw for visitors (who sometimes visit then relocate to the Pearl).As described in a recent article from a California newspaper, "The Pearl, on the northern edge of downtown Portland, is a textbook success story of how an industrial core can be transformed into a fashionable neighborhood of boutiques, galleries, cafes, parks and stylish loft dwellings……As other city residents began to follow the artists into the neighborhood, businesses sprouted to accommodate them - "high-end restaurants and some wonderful, inventive shops," Missal said. "People who move in here want that and expect it."And a visitor to Portland is the richer for it. This neighborhood is compact, walkable and convenient to the city's exceptional MAX light rail. A streetcar line runs right through it…"Here i
Things have been hectic and busy here. There’s just no other way to describe it. Meetings have been held to discuss church problems, worship services have been planned, events have been talked about. All that has happened has distracted me from my preparation and excited for one of my favorite weekends of the year.
For the past three years, I have been asked to teach at a workshop on creative ministries. While I love performing and glorifying God through my abilities, teaching others to do the same renews my spirit. It is the weekend when I can see a ministry that is near and dear to my heart taking form and reaching out. It’s a time when you can literally see God making disciples. It is an awesome thing to behold and much needed at this time in my heart.
So, I have a request of you, my friends, today. I would ask that you pray for this workshop. May it be successful in equipping others to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May it be filled with people full of the love of Go

Guest Post: Andrew HigginsLate last year, a Swedish hotel guest named Stefan Jansson grew upset when he found a Bible in his room. He fired off an email to the hotel chain, saying the presence of the Christian scriptures was “boring and stupefying.” This spring, the Scandic chain, Scandinavia’s biggest, ordered the New Testaments removed.In a country where barely 3% of the population goes to church each week, the affair seemed just another step in Christian Europe’s long march toward secularism. Then something odd happened: A national furor erupted. A conservative bishop announced a boycott. A leftist radical who became a devout Christian and talk-show host denounced the biblical purge in newspaper columns and on television. A young evangelical Christian organized an electronic letter-writing campaign, asking Scandic: Why are you removing Bibles but not pay-porn on your TVs?Scandic, which had started keeping its Bibles behind the front desk, put the New Testament back in guest
