Lesley Powell of Movements Afoot Pilates in NYC is a great friend and a fabulous Pilates teacher. I have learned a lot over the years from working with her and I refer most of my New York Parrot Cay Pilates guests to continue their work at her studio. She has written a truly informative article for Pilates Pro, Freeing the Shoulders to Connect to the Core, which begins with a pretty contentious statement,“'Push your shoulders down.'”We hear that phrase frequently in Pilates studios, but I say it’s time to throw that cue out. Why? For most people, pressing the shoulders down freezes the shoulder girdle’s function and interrupts its natural rhythm."If you're a Pilates teacher who uses that cue and wonders why your client's shoulders remain tight and stuck, or you are a Pilates stu

Is this true? Powell skateboards hasn't been picking up the media coverage that other companies have been picking up, thanks to Rocco. But Steve Caballero is giving us a little insight, proving that this year is the comeback of a lifetime for the Powell team. There is a video being shot right now, there is some breadcrumbs being left behind for bloggers, like myself, reporting what might be this years comeback story...will it leave a splash? Or will Alien Workshop overshadow things? Or will City skateboards mop up? Colin Powell in Obama camp?ABC News's Dianne Sawyer asked Powell what he made of "relative lack of experience" at the national level, when it comes to envisioning the political phenom as president.
"He doesn't have experience at the senior levels of national government. But I've seen other individuals come along who didn't have that breadth of experience and what they do is surround themselves with people who do bring that experience.
"With Sen. Obama, he didn't have a lot of experience running a presidential campaign, did he? But he seems to know how to organize a task and he seems to know how to apply resources to a problem at hand. So that gives me some indication that (with) his inexperience in foreign affairs or domestic affairs, he may be someone who can learn quickly."Also... Powe
Colin Powell, the first black man with a chance to win the White House, could help McCain by supporting him or assure his defeat by endorsing Obama. Two reasons:
1. It would neutralize Obama's leader/patriotism issues. Not only do people still respect Powell, but a military endorsement is especially important for a "weak" leader like Obama. It effectively neutralizes McCain's possible Obama-himself, Zero-hero narrative.
2. Conversion story. Why is Whittaker Chambers' story so powerful? Why did the Pope publicly baptize a Muslim? Why do conservatives like conservative blacks like Powell or Liberals like liberal generals (Blacks aren't "traitors to their race-" they just don't follow the position associated with their group)? Why do Muslims wish to kill converts from Islam? Why did conserv

Lake Powell is a man-made reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona. It is the second largest man-made reservoir in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre feet (30 km³) of water when full. Lake Powell was created by the flooding of Glen Canyon by the Glen Canyon Dam, which also led to the creation of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, a popular summer destination. The reservoir is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, a one-armed American Civil War veteran who explored the river via three wooden boats in 1869. In 1972, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area was established. It is public land managed by the National Park Service, and available to the public for recreational purposes. All the nice pictures below have been ta

Brian started his website in 2006, and in that short amount of time it's risen all the way to #3 on the Ballhype charts. Yes, Awful Announcing has indeed struck a nerve with the TV-watching, blog-reading sports fan. It's a highly enjoyable website. Brian is a qualified professor in this to

10.04 meeting record for Asafa Powell in MelbourneOn Thursday, powerful messages were conveyed without a word being said at the Melbourne Track Classic in Australia. Jeremy ran a super fast time for February, and Powell came out and let competitors know that he has mental and physical toughness. The one-lap champ set an intense pace from the start and won handily in 44.82 seconds. The second place runner was nearly a full second behind Jeremy Wariner.Jeremy ran below 45 seconds in the 400-meters as he predicted for the season opener and in the process probably squelched media talk that his season and career were doomed. When asked he said, “I had a great race today. I got to see where I was in my training, and now I go back and rest for a couple of days and then get back on the grind.”In

Maybe mum was right about not running in the house. The world’s fastest man recently endured a nightmare trip to Sydney. Along the way, he gashed his knee, missed his flight, and lost his luggage en route to Saturday’s grand prix meet in Australia."I was running up the stairs at my house, and I fell," said Powell, who suffered the injury while running late for a practice session.Powell has withdrawn from Saturday’s meet due to receiving stitches. The good news is that he hopes to be ready to run February 21 in Melbourne. After his let down in the 100-meter world championship final last year in Osaka, we hope this rather bizarre incident isn’t a sign of things to come for his season.Good luck!By Jay Hicks, a.k.a.
Cosa accadrà a Pechino?

Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure - George Woodberry
It is my opinion that currently Asafa Powell lacks the mental fortitude that is needed to be counted among the all time greats of track and field. It took me a few hours to digest his defeat at the World Championships in Osaka Japan. It is not the embarrassing defeat or his lack of a major title other than the world record, it's his facial expression and submission to a challenge from that Gay fellow. How can you give up?!?!? so what if you would have came in second? but to hang your head mid race and limp through like a mongrel who has just been scolded by his master (tail between his legs and all) is what is disturbing, I will not even go on about how he threw away his silver medal, albeit it a great run and national record for my Bahamian brethren and Caribbean brother Derrick Atkins.

Composer John Powell elevates the tension he so dutifully created on 2004's Bourne Supremacy soundtrack for the third (and final?) chapter in the big screen adaptation of author Robert Ludlum's internationally lauded Jason Bourne series The Bourne Ultimatum. In his presentation to the UN Security Council on February 5, 2003, Colin Powell made a number of claims but one of them was blown away in the top criminal court in Britain, the Old Bailey.
This happened in the trial of the infamous “UK poison cell” and Colin Powell said they were al-Qaeda associates.
Colin Powell claimed this terrorist cell was ready to mount attack on the UK ricin but the trial has shown the opposite.
In the UK’s terror sweep, authorities arrested 90 people, 9 were charged but no a single person has been convicted. One person was convicted of the murder of police officers that took part in the raid but that was not terrorism.
Do you think Colin Powell told an outright lie?
Should Colin Powell be put on trial for this?
Is terrorism an over hyped fear?

As the regular reader of TPB might know, I have not been an enthusiastic supporter of George Bush for some time now. I voted for him twice and to be perfectly honest the second time I went into the voting booth intending to vote for Michael Badnarik. But in a moment of weakness I repeated my folly of 2000. I think that the bush administration did cook the intelligence evidence to justify invading Iraq. We were fresh off of an apparent massive victory against the Taliban in Afghanistan and, or so we were told, had Al Qaeda on the ropes. The point is I agree with the author below but in typical liberal fashion he passes of the actions of the Bush administration as a strictly Republican tactic. Its not. The left has used it to great effect a thousand times. One might make the case that they invented such tactics. Democrats have used class warfare and fear to scare blacks and old people for decades. Who was it that said, "I'll have them niggers voting Democratic for two hundred y

Powell Calls for Closure of Military Prison at GuantanamoBy Walter PincusWashington Post Staff WriterMonday, June 11, 2007; A03Former secretary of state Colin L. Powell said yesterday that he would close down the U.S. military prison for enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, "this afternoon" because it has become a major problem in "the way the world perceives America.""Essentially, we have shaken the belief that the world had in America's justice system by keeping a place like Guantanamo open and creating things like a military commission," Powell said on NBC's "Meet the Press."Making it clear that he "would not let any of those people go," Powell said, "I would simply move them to the United States and put them into our more federal legal system." He said he sees no problem in detainees having the right of habeas corpus and getting their own lawyers. Nate Powell was very unassuming as he sat behind his table at the Alternative Press Expo. He’s been publishing his comics in one way or another since 1992 and has built up an impressive library of work. Powell took the time to talk to Pink Raygun for a few minutes in the early hours of the convention.
Pink Raygun: Could you start out telling us who you are, and a bit about your project?
Nate Powell: My name is Nate Powell, I live in Indiana, I’m a comic book artist and I do a bunch of books. I have a self-contained, autobiographical comics essay about working with people with developmental disabilities and growing older and confronting shifts in ideals that’s printed by Top Shelf Comics called Please Release. I have an omnibus book from Microcosm Publishing called Sounds of Your Name and that collects about twenty different stories done in the last seven or eight years. A lot of them were self-published. His first printed collection of short stories will be published in August 2008. Powell recently participated in the ongoing discussion of gender and genre on BBC Radio 4 and at Eastercon. Here, he talks to Pink Raygun about gender and sci-fi, smart dust and what he’d name his space ship.
PR: You seem to have become a “go-to guy” in the debate about gender and genre in the UK. How did that come about?
GLP: It happened completely by accident. Back in February, I got an email from a producer on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, asking if I’d like to appear on the show the following day to talk with Liz Williams about “whether or not science fiction is a
