Austin, our 4 year old, is completely potty trained. However, since I have put the potty chair in the downstairs bathroom he has decided that it's more convenient than the big potty. I have told him that he is to only use the big potty. Here's how the conversation went today after I discovered that he had poo pooed in the little potty:[Me] Austin, what's wrong with this bathroom?[Austin] Where?[I point to the potty chair.][Austin...hand on chin] Hmmmm....how to solve this mystery! I have an idea![Me] There is no mystery here.[Austin] Mommy, you're my best friend.[Me] Who went in the little potty?[Austin] I did. Mommy, you're my best friend! I'm sorry.

I've obviously survived it twice, right?

From a Place Called "I-K-E-A"Today, my Pop-Pop and Grammy went to a store called "I-K-E-A" and they took me along for the ride. I usually like the places they take me to but, when we got to this store, it just didn't look like the kind of place where I could have any fun. Boy, was I wrong! After we walked around in the store for a while, we found a play area just for kids called "SMALAND". I got really excited about it, only to find out that I couldn't stay and play because I'm not "potty trained". What a bummer! I tried to explain that I'm working on the "potty thing" and I just need a little more time but, it didn't seem to matter to anyone. You either knew how to use the "pot" or you didn't. Needless to say, I was quite upset. We continued to walk around in the store and just when I thoug

We have begun our fourth (or is it fifth?) round of attempts to potty train. Molly has begun to show intermittent interest in the potty, and annoyance at her diapers. We had one successful run to the potty yesterday, and were hoping to have repeat success by going into the bathroom just about every hour. No success, and by the end of the day she was annoyed with the potty. We're not giving up this time, though. She's smart enough and almost 3...we'll get it, I'm sure of it! If for no other reason than because she'll be thrilled to know that if she learns to go on the potty her shoes won't have to come off ALL DAY...until she gets changed into pajamas *lol**On a potty side note...I've had to begin taping Kennedy up like I used to do with Molly. Her diaper, that is. Even with her PJ's on backwards. She plays with the diaper through the sleeper until it's loose and halfway down her legs. Not a problem I ever had with Molly. *sigh* On a good note, though...because Moll
While we adore our pet dog so much, so we also wish we can maintain clean surroundings and fresh-smelling homes. But oftentimes, especially if we have a new pet dog taken in, we would have to worry about cleaning after our dogs with their poop as well as pee. Until you feel that you had enough, and decided that you will take on the task of giving it some potty training yourself to provide solution to the problem.
But how does one go about potty training his pet dog? Believe it or not, it can be a rather easy task – albeit you would mainly have to need more perseverance and dedication. Of course, you would also have to commit yourself to giving potting training one hundred percent; otherwise all your efforts will go for naught. Remember, your dog will likely need a lot of time learning where the appropriate place in for it to defecate and urinate, so be patient for any non-reaction or negative responses from your dog during its training.
An effective way of potty training is by pra
The way things have been going there’s no doubt in my mind that I’ll have the first Jr. high kid EVER that hasn't been potty trained.Recently some friends gave me a dvd called “Potty Power” that did wonders for their 2.5 year-old. She watched it a few times and like magic was “instantly” using the toilet like a 67 year-old running into the house after a visit to Hometown Buffet. The video is actually quite good. The songs are so catchy that I often find myself singing them in boring meetings at work (“no more diapers for me…yeah, yeah…”)Unlike other potty videos, kids actually use the toilet in it - imagine that! All while singing, dancing around, yelling “Potty Power” with their arms in the air like Che Guevara revolutionaries.... it's all very exciting. So exciting

The girls are doing so well! They’re actually POOPING in the toilet, too, something Mallory STILL hasn’t mastered! I’ve only changed a handful of diapers over the past few days - it’s been GLORIOUS! I think we may try to do panties today, even? And say to hell with the Pullups? We’ll see how brave I am after breakfast. Way to pee, girls!
Once you bring your little puppy home, there are several questions in the back of your mind that may trouble you, like what steps do you take concerning potty training puppies. You should remember that bringing home a young dog is like bringing home a baby. It is completely helpless and dependent on you. So the same way your child can give you sleepless nights, you can be sure that he can too! But you will never regret getting it home because it will fill it with love and happiness. You will be happy to know that potty training your pup is not all that difficult. Here are some tips and techniques of puppy potty training that really work.1) First buy a kennel or a play pen. Be sure that it's big enough for him to grow into, but not too big.2) Use puppy pads to line the kennel or play pen. The play pen should provide enough room for the bedding, as well as the puppy pads. But since a kennel will be a little smaller, your new pet may find it a little difficult to adjust in the beginning. D
This is posted by Adum. Finally, someone appreciates me. As Sarah has mentioned a time or two, we are in middle of the painful process of potty training our two year old, Penelope. In spite of our best laid plans, we have returned to rewarding her with "potty candy" for her success. A few days ago, Penelope saw me eating a piece of candy, and I witnessed one of those rare moments where she had a flash of inspiration, and everything clicked for her. "Oh, potty candy. Daddy, did you go to the potty?"I must admit I wasn't expecting that, but since Penny doesn't get candy unless she uses the bathroom, and I didn't want to set a bad example, I said "um, yes,"(which wasn't a lie, in the strictest sense, since I am sure I had at some point that day, and I don't recall having any "accidents.")I watched in amazement as Penny's previous look of inspiration morphed into utmost admiration. She smiled and gave me a huge hug and said "Oh, Daddy. I am so proud of you."It's nice to be appreci

Cass has always enjoyed playing with baby dolls. In fact all of the girls still enjoy playing mommy with their special dollies from time to time. I would have thought that the older girls would have made the transition from newborn infant baby dolls funky fashion dress-up dolls, but they still will engage with the little one in the occasional pretend diaper changing and bottlefeeding (Cass still pretends to breast-feed her babies by asking if baby wants ninny! Who on earth did she get that term from? It's my grandmother's word that I've tried to get past but Cass latched onto it with the vigor of the obsessed! For practice and basic childcare they all prefer are the realistic looking baby dolls. Most of these baby dolls are so real looking back I'm having a hard time explaining to the little one that babies don't come from the toy aisle at Wal-Mart. I've tried to point out tummies of our pregnant friends for the purpose of telling her that the baby was inside. This approach d
I had a super duper busy and messy day. This week, Clayton has started potty training at school. He messed up 2 days and yesterday was fine, today was the worse. I had to spend half hour washing his soiled clothes and shoes and just when I thought that I could rest, I saw a puddle on the floor. I talked to him, reminded him about the bathroom and potty but half hour later, there was another puddle. I was mad. I had to cleaned twice and that was frustrating! Plus, DH was away for his Asia Sales Congress these few days.Well, that was not the end of the mess. I checked the clock and thought I would take him to the bathroom an hour later. But lo and behold, when I came downstairs, there was another puddle -I wanted to scream!!!I know I should be stressed over this and it isn't fair to expect him to learn this overnight. Patience is what I need and yes, I should continue to press on. Anyone moms or dads has any tips to share on potty training?
It has been awhile since I have talked about Potty Training, and since I am facing this dilemma with my now 2 1/2 year old, I thought it would be a great time to bring it up. Last year I wrote about Potty Training here, and listed some great tips. Since I have started with my dear little one (note the sarcasm) I decided to read my own advice.
There are some interesting ideas about Potty training. The most recent phenomenon is the “diaper-free” movement. The Associated Press wrote an interesting article about it Here is a little of the article:
Dominic is a product of a growing “diaper-free” movement founded on the belief that babies are born with an instinctive ability to signal when they have to answer nature’s call. Parents who practice the so-called “elimination communication” learn to read their children’s body language to help them recognize the need, and they mimic the sounds that a child associates with the bathroom.

Since I've been writing a bit (obsessively) about potty training, someone from Huggies contacted me and asked if she could send me some samples of Pull-Ups Training Pants. I was thrilled, because I have used training pants throughout my potty training experience. I've always used them at night and naptime (especially since Kyle is still in a crib), but I also use them when we are going to be in
I wasn't going to buy Crocs. But I did, first for my daughter, who "needed some" because they were cool and comfortable and she had to have a strap on the heel for recess. Then I decided to get some for my son, once I saw how they withstood dirt and water and all the things that kids get into when playing outdoors. He loves them. So much so that for the first few nights he slept in them.

I am SO tired of cleaning up poop. Seriously. I’m just over it. I mean, I knew potty training twins would be a challenge - particularly when one of them is autistic - but for goodness sake, can I catch a break over here? Pretty please? FIVE. That’s how many poop accidents I cleaned up today. FIVE! I know I can blame a good deal of that on the greasy dinner we ate last night and the apple juice they had for breakfast, but still…I’m so annoyed with my children! It’s like they’re pooping as a hobby!
I actually THREW AWAY Elmo and Wiggles underpants today, because I was just over it. And as if the poop weren’t enough - when we were getting ready for baths, one of the little girls peed on the carpet! Oh, what a mistake it was getting carpet in the bathrooms. Yeah, it’s nice and warm and quiet, but YUCK. I can’t imagine how much of my kids’ DNA is lingering in those nylon fibers! We’re definitely going to have to look into r
Sorry for the lack of updates. I like to post at least once a week, but have just been too exhausted too. Hopefully some energy will return in the next few weeks.Anyways, my son's potty training is coming along fairly well. We're taking it very slowly. I was actually planning to wait until early June when he's actually 2 1/2 to get started. Suprisingly enough, one day a few weeks ago, out of the blue, he said potty, went out on to the deck and completely stripped. Shirt, pants, diaper, socks, everything. Then he peed on the deck. I let him go, just to see what he was doing. It was interesting. For the next several days, he kept doing the same thing a couple of times a day. This time he used his potty I brought out on the deck. Unfortunately, the weather cooled off and he quit going. The weather did warm up a few days ago and he peed on the deck in his potty again. He's also been interested in going on the toilet, but hasn't succeeded yet. I think in a couple weeks, he'll definite
Yes, I know that you've been checking in wondering why I haven't reported about Kyle's progress learning to use the potty. I think we've been at it for three weeks. It's going fine. I'm still more potty trained than him. He tells me when he has to go. . . after he's already wet. But that's progress, right?
I wanted to share the bane of a potty training mom, in case you haven't been in my
Spring is here again. It's about time; I'm at the point where if I don't get out of the house soon I may need to be Baker Acted because I'm a danger to myself or others. Spring does mean ticks here in Missouri though and I've already had my first run-in. Lucky for me I have a tick specialist in my house. Last year my son decided to educate himself about all sorts of ticks and the reaction you will have if you get bit. He decided to do this after he got his first tick. Being from the East coast of Florida, you don't see too many ticks. I don't think they like the beach as much as they like the woods. Anyway, last year my son got a tick attached to his hip and started screaming for me to come and kill the spider that was stuck on him. When I told him it wasn't a spider but a tick, he turned ashen white, started crying, and feared for his life. I wasn't quite sure what to do either. The only run-in I'd ever had with a tick was a few years ago when one attached itself to my torto
My son is 27/29 months today. Our big goal for this year is to hopefully get him potty trained during the day by the time he is 3. Last month I bought the potty chair. I just got the simple 4 in 1 model. There were other potty chairs which played music when flushed, but I didn't want my son to think it was a toy. Normal toilets don't sing when you flush, so I didn't want his to. The seat on the other models looked hard too.My son immediately knew what the potty chair I bought was for, dropped his drawers, sat on it, got up, checked it out, sat back down. He actually did pee a little bit. The second time we tried, he did the same thing. The third time, he decided the toilet bowl part of the potty was a hat. After that, he hasn't cooperated. I gave up for a few weeks and I think after Easter, I'm going to try again. I've got to do a little reading and see if I can find some good tips.So far I've read "It's Time!: A Potty Training Guide"By Karen Pillari Penner. I guess it's worth
Wow - things are looking SOOO much brighter on the potty training front! I’m so glad I didn’t give up and put Pablo in pullups!
Last night, after I put the kids to bed, I went back downstairs to do a little quick cleanup of the kitchen and living room. I hate coming downstairs in the morning to pure freakin’ chaos, right from the get-go, so I like to get all the toys picked up and thrown back into the playroom and get the pillows back on the couch and make sure we don’t have dirty dishes in the sink and all that. Anyway. I’d only been downstairs about 2 minutes when I heard some sort of commotion through the baby monitor. I turned it up and could hear Pablo hollering a word, but I couldn’t understand him. Yeah, he’s talking, but not necessarily in English. Hehe! It’s okay; we’ll take what we can get. So I dashed upstairs and headed into Pablo and Mallory’s bedroom, and Mallory said, “Mama! Pablo has to go potty!” H
Well, we’re up and down. Pablo will stay dry for a long time, and he knows what to do in the bathroom - he’s the one who initiated the whole “standing up to pee” thing that’s been doing for a few days - but I’m still pretty discouraged. I find him damp again and again, and he doesn’t even seem to realize that he’s wet or that he’s gone pee in his undies. The workshop I attended a month or so ago that focused on potty training kids with special needs emphasized one major point: where autistic children are concerned, successful potty training doesn’t mean immediately giving up diapers! I’m completely understanding that now. I’m not sure that Pablo feels the sensation that he needs to go pee. I think he dribbles a little at a time and doesn’t notice it. And I’m guessing that I’ve just had remarkably good timing when it comes to getting him to pee in the toilet - he just happens to need to relieve him
We are trying to potty train Mini Buff. But it’s not working. My mom (and others) have told me that it takes time and not to rush it. They’ve also said, “Wait till they’re ready.” I ask you. How does a child know they’re ready to sit and poop in a potty? I guess maybe they do but I’ve never seen that.
We bought him a potty. And it’s a nifty stool for when he brushes his teeth too. But that’s all he uses it for. When I try to get him on the potty, he screams and runs. He also screams and runs when he sees a poop. But maybe he is too young. Maybe we should wait until he’s three? Or four? I don’t know!! I guess I’ll wait. /end emo rant
U’oh …. I smell trouble here! Oh wait …. I just did a poo! Haha! But seriously folks, there have been talk of another ambitious project by the powers that be, ie. Mummy and Daddy, to potty train me. I heard that it involves a potty (obviously) much like this one:
Potty with built-in toilet paper dispenser, as seen on Babygadget
I’ve heard some of my fellow toddies have started potty training even earlier than me and are already well-versed with the intricacies of using such a device. I admire them for being so brave because I’ve also heard that during this so-called training period, one is supposed to go without nappies.
What?!? No nappies?? But what if I have an, you know …. “accident” and I have poo all over my pants? Oh dear! Someone would have to clean up the mess I guess. I’ve been prone to some poo-related “accidents”. Pee-related ones too.
I think that scares some parents, doesn’t it? This fear of “ac
