I said pottery… not poetry. The ceramic arts have seen creations come in all shapes and sizes: From bowls, plates, teapots, cups and mugs, to a plethora of sculptural forms. It seems there is nothing that can’t be sculpted out of clay. But what about words? Can clay be text?...
The last 25 years or so has seen the Raku pottery technique become increasingly popular among professional and hobby potters alike. The drawing of red hot pots from a kiln, the subsequent smoking of pots (and potters) in sawdust, the tense excitement as the final results emerge when the pots...

Arts as subdivision of human culture composed of many expressive disciplines. With arts we try to respect to another human being and try to understand how people think about something. That rsquo s why arts become an important factor in education especially child education. As example music when someone can hear and appreciate a sp

Just a blog post to share some rare finds for Roseville Pottery.
As you may already know - The Roseville Pottery Company was founded in 1890. Roseville initially produced simple utilitarian ware such as flower pots, stoneware, umbrella stands, cuspidors, and limited painted ware. In 1900, Roseville Rozane became the first high quality art pottery line produced by Roseville.
Unsure of the exact pattern but this style can bring in some good money. We think it might be pinecone.
Feel free to post other pictures!
If anyone has pictures of the rare and very scarce patterns such as Fudgi, Crystalis, Della Robbia, and Aztec please post them.
A while back, I wrote about how Pottery Barn offered a good example of how to stage your home. I was impressed by the catalog I had received in the mail - whoever stages the rooms for their catalog shots does a fantastic job.
It turns out that Pottery Barn acutally does offer lessons in staging, more [...]
Are you bored with the furniture in your living space? Have you ever wondered how you can add personal touches to your living room? Pottery Barn is offering a complimentary decorating class on Saturday, April 13 on upholstering furniture. Stop by your favorite Pottery Barn store or call to reserve your spot because space is limited. I for one will be at the Georgetown store to learn some new techniques. Now I must say that I am no Martha Stuart but given the right instructions, I can make a mean decorative pillow. I am moving in to my first one bedroom apartment in a month and I am sure learning how to reupholster some furniture will come in handy for the paint jobs I have in mind. Every glamour girl should have a glamorous living space so why not take a couple of your friends and do a br
In my day to day dressing I like to toe the line between laid-back and chic. So, even when I am wearing jeans or khakis, I always throw on jewelry because it is such a simple way to look great without any effort. The jewelry collections of Lily Pottery would be a fabulous way to elevate any look instantly. Each piece in the collection looks like an intricate tiny piece of sculpture. Available in gorgeous pale watercolor-y and earthy hues, each handcrafted piece is formed from earthenware clay and then stamped with the artist's own one-of-a-kind stamps to make each piece uniquely different and truly original. Prices start at $39 for a pendant necklace to $25 for a pair of earrings. Affordable luxury...who can resist? (For those of you with little girls...you must check out Little Lily...a c
With the age of technology taking over too few arts and crafts kits are sold and too many handheld video games are being picked up. The My First Pottery Wheel By Curiousity Kits is a great example of some of the newer arts and crafts kits that are being produced but are seemingly slipping through [...]
We love a good desk. For this writer, the Aviation Desk from Pottery Barn fits the bill. It has substantiality written all over it.

I'm very excited to be able to host a giveaway for Hartstone Pottery! Please see the personal note below:We are Hartstone Pottery, America’s last great art pottery. We take pride in bringing you quality, handcrafted stoneware made right here in the good ol’ US of A. Our lead free stoneware is as functional as it is attractive. We’re not taking our second chance lightly. We put our best foot forward everyday to leave our mark as an American company giving you artful, durable, s
What’s the pottery program like at Rockbrook Camp?
It’s fantastic! There are two different pottery studios at camp, each with work tables for hand building (using coils, slabs, and pinch techniques) and potter’s wheels for learning how to make wheel-thrown pots. No matter what their level of experience, campers can make all sorts of bowls, plates, cups, and sculptures. One popular thing to make is a whistle that you shape into some kind of animal, like a turtle for example. It’s neat to actually make your own pottery at camp instead of just glazing pre-made pots. After your creations are “bisque fired” (the first kiln firing that completely dries and stabilizes the pottery), you then paint on different color glazes, and after the final firing, you’ve got the coolest, shiny colored ceramics. Of course, in addition to learning all about this, it’s great to bring home all the pottery you’ve made.
GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!I collect all kinds of Mississippi pottery and JRWebb Pottery has some of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen, and I know my Mississippi pottery! All you have to do is go look here at JRWebb Pottery and then come back and leave a comment in this post telling me what caught your eye. You have until 11 PM Central December 9.
Now, this video needs a little zing, yet it is engaging to hearken to southwestern trinkets artists, James Olson, discuss his single work. It’s not your typical calaite trinkets (not that there’s anything wrong with that). yet, I like how he isn’t trying to frame Native American trinkets yet instead is using materials like like river stone and pottery pieces like part of his trinkets designs. You can diocese more close-up style images of his work at TwinRocks.com like like a few of the pieces below. (Read the full post about ‘Stone & Pottery Jewelry from James Olson’…)
Interesting "How to make pottery?"Here is a step by step look at how to make pottery. These are the steps we use every day in our studio. The process of making pottery at our studio is basically the same as you will find at any other true pottery studio in the world today. From raw clay to finished product we follow the steps that have been established over the centuries by potters on every continent. Every piece of pottery we make is hand crafted. We do not use the shortcut methods of press moulding, buying bisque ware from outside suppliers, or using mechanical devices to make the pots. Cindy does all the wheel throwing on an electric potter's wheel and Jim builds all the slab pots by hand. The only moulding we do is some slump moulding of platters, and even then each is made from a slab rolled on the slab roller and cut by hand before being draped into a mouldFor more on steps pls visit: www.howtomakepottery.comFor download of "How to make pottery handbook" please click here

Making of pots and vases has come a long way and today, you can buy basic or well-designed and arty works made from clay
THERE is more to pottery than churning out pots or vases. For some, it is a commercial industry while for others, it is a form of art. But in both instances, there is designing, sculpting and more involved.
Pottery began as a necessity to produce utility ware like cooking pots and jars to hold water but today, the industry includes production of art pieces, souvenirs and display items.
Nor are these simply functional without form. Pottery items are well designed and colourful and some places have acquired a reputation for turning out beautiful, collectible items.
Sarawak Pottery
Sarawak’s first pottery stood a few miles downstream from the main town of Kuching, at Tanah Puteh. A craftsman from Chaozhou province, China, was making cooking pots and jars for the local market when ]ames Brooke sailed past in 1839.
Pottery has come a long way. since! Today, pots

Last Fall I wouldn't say I 'redecorated' (that sounds way more exciting than what I actually did) but I 'decorated' the Family Room. We removed the cellular shades and replaced them with wood blinds, took out the large armoire and replaced it with a simple small desk and brought the framed prints from the Living Room in to the Family Room. This of course left me with blank walls in the Family Room. No fear! Halloween was just around the corner. I went to the party store and bought silly 'Halloween' prints (American Gothic with a farmer with his eyes falling out of their sockets and a vampire version of Mona Lisa). Then of course Christmas came and I was able to cheat by having the Christmas tree on one of the walls and a Christmas themed frame storyboard on the other. But then the inevitable happened and I had no holiday to cheat with. I was left with blank walls. So, for the past month or so I've been scouring books, magazines, stores and websites looking for a fr
