Postcards 4 the Cats and Cute Chica
Yeah, they arrived!!!Today we have gone to the post office to check if the cards for Chica & Pumuckl arrived. Both of them felt too hot with the 36 degree outside so they preferred to send us to to pick up their stuff. The post officer was a bit irritated thus and asked who is Chica :) Back in home, sweating all over, I have read the cards for Chica and Pumuckl and they have been very happy! Thank you so much Laila, Lilli, Sukie, Mitzi and Livvie! We are all so happy! All the postcards can be seen here.Chica sniffed around the postcards first......but also Pumuckl couldn't read them!So I have read them all for both and they have been so happy!Chica didn't feel so well yesterday, maybe because it is so hot these days or because the fan got her a bit of a cold. Hearts and Thoughts: Victorian Valentine Postcards
Cheeky cherubs, the secret language of flowers, shy glances and bawdy wit... You'll find it all in Valentine postcards from the early 20th century. But this delightful vintage ephemera offers a collector more than just vivid images, symbolism and little bit of humor. It tells a story, too-- giving us a quick peek into the lives of the people who posted the cards-- those who took a moment to jot a note, share a thought, even subtly say what could not be said in person. So today, I'll share with YOU just a few cards from my collection, and the little stories they carry with them. I think you'll agree, it's a look at history and humanity, all on a 3 1/2 by 5 scrap of paper."To My Dearie." Oh, I love it!-- We just don't phrase things like that anymore. Postcards: True Stories that Never Happened
There are many things that I can't do as well or anymore with RA, and that often beats me up. But a few months ago, I read a quote by Mother Theresa that has become my motto. I repeat it to myself almost daily: Do small things with great love. Go back and read it again. For me it's profound. There are so many of the large things that I can't do, but I can show my family and friends my love for them in the small things I do. Birthday and anniversary cards, cookies or bread when I make them, more time listening and less time talking.I have found a new want. Brian Dettmer does book autopsies. I know that sounds horrible, but the results are astounding. Someday I want to own a piece of his work. It just brings out all the bibliophile in me. Today's "Nessun Dorma" and other picture postcards...
Today's "Nessun Dorma" is brought to you by that sensitive '90s balladeer, Michael Bolton (after the infamous haircut, no less).Again, I must say that even though Bolton is an unlikely source for one of the more famous arias in the opera world...he's not doing too badly. He's taking it seriously but not so much that you roll your eyes at his pretentiousness. Plus, he doesn't look too bad in the Edwardian-style suit he's got on. What I'm trying to say is I wouldn't kick him off my porch if he was a Jehovah's Witness. I'd receive testimony, you know what I'm sayin'?Anyway...enough of what I would do to Michael Bolton if he came to my house. It's WEDNESDAY, folks! And what does that mean here at Rancho Sudiegirl?...I have absolutely NO idea.(Hey, at least I'm being honest. Honesty is not always a vital ingredient at Rancho Sudiegirl but I'm not afraid to try new things.)Well...let's throw out an award or two, shall we? (Actually, maybe just one because I don't wanna

      Selling Your Book With Postcards
When you’re a publisher or, let’s say, an author who uses the standard method of giving away copies of your published books, it would be very expensive indeed to use this kind of advertising. But when you’re an e-book publisher, it’s even more difficult for you to go this route as first, you don’t have access to a large number of copies of your book; and second, you don’t have a book to give away because there’s no physical book to speak of in the first place. Nevertheless, there’s a way for e-publishers like you to effectively promote and market your e-books. And you don’t have to pay so much for this marketing method, yet at the same time, it can provide almost the same results as that of your giving away a cheaper copy of your book. (more…)

      postcards anyone??
Smummy and ~m over at Smoke and Mirrors have exchanged care packages recently, and another one is in the works for WC, which got me to thinking about something that a mum’s group I was involved in online did way back when. We had a postcard exchange. Or rather, several! We had two running - one for people who only wished to send and receive one, and another for those who wanted to send and receive a bunch! Did it once every couple of months, and made sure everyone was shared around so they didn’t get one from the same person twice. It worked very well. Basically to get started just let me know your interested by leaving a comment, or sending me an email, or even using the contact form…if there is enough people into it (I’d say at least 4), then we’ll go from there. I must admit I hope you all go for it! Getting postcards from all sorts of places is great fun, and seeing peoples handwriting is fun too! Kind of like seeing their photos for the first time

Beirut: “Postcards from Italy” video, Blogotheque videos
Zach Condon, aka Beirut, will release the follow up to his gorgeous debut Gulag Orkestar (and Lon Gisland EP) on October 9. Weirdly enough, Beirut has just released the video to “Postcards from Italy,” a single from the first album. It’s directed by Alma Har’El, the same director behind his clip for “Elephant Gun.” The video for “Postcards from Ital” matches the nostalgic feel of the LP artwork. The clips seemlessly mixes what looks like 1950s home movies with footage of Condon and his girlfriend (?). Their footage looks to be on Super 8 film, and they wear vintage clothing to match the look of the older clips. It’s not as compelling or sexy as the “Elephant Gun” clip, but fits the tone of the track perfectly. Postcards & flyers
Did you see the flyer I made for Kayley’s birthday party? She loves it. It came out so cute, too! If you didn’t see it, look over in my sidebar at my Flickr pictures; it’s there. We aren’t actually sending them out in the mail (I don’t think?) just sending them via email and posting a link to the flyer with Evite. I made a bunch of similar flyers when we were promoting Paul’s friend’s bar early this year, and we had them printed on postcards to leave at various businesses. There are lots of places where you can get flyers, postcards, and business cards printed up really cheap. I found several places online when I was looking for that for the bar. Here’s a place that does postcard printing in addition to lots of other types of printing. Check them out if you’re in need of color flyer printing or postcards! And if you want a custom flyer made - well, you know who to turn to!

      Postcards From the Edge
Over the weekend, I received a postcard from Boris of Travel Junkie. He sent it while in Hervey Bay, along Fraser Coast, in Queensland, Australia. The postage was $1.25 AUD, which seems like quite a deal considering how far the little piece of paper had to travel. The nicely written postcard was a “thank you” in return for a 5 euro (~$8) donation I made after reading his very well written Support page. If you check it out, you’ll see I qualified as a Breakfast Supporter, while he is still awaiting his first Sushi (6-24 euro) and Gordon Ramsay (25+ euro) supporters. Once I get a little closer to my own departure, I’m going to put up a similar page. Unlike Boris, who is offering to send some gifts for higher donations, I thought I would offer to do activities that people suggest. Please let me know what you think of my pitch: Sponsor Me! Activity - (This option will not be in effect until I am on the road.) Once the trip is underway, you can ask me to do some

I’d normally toss this in among my weekly list of Offbeat Travel Links, but this is just too good to wait. Postcrossing.com lets you “send a postcard and receive one back from a random postcrosser somewhere in the world”. Their about page describes their mission like this: The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost. The main line is: if you send a postcard, you’ll receive at least one back, from a random postcrosser somewhere in the world. Why? Because, like the author, there are lots of people who like to receive stuff by mail. If you add to that, the surprise factor of receiving postcards from different places in the world that you probably never heard about, you can turn your mailbox into a little surprise box. The two year old sites boasts over 20,000 users, over half a million postcards sent, and just over 30,000 postcards currently in transit on their map. When you register, you&rsqu

      Postcards from the American West
I said I’d put these photos from our trip to Utah back in the previous post about said trip. Screw that! They’re too good. They go here. In case you’re curious, these are mostly taken in Arches National Park. One is obviously at the border of Utah and Colorado along I-70. Ballard C. Boyd, director, in what appears to be his element. Create greeting cards, postcards, slideshows using your photos using SmileBox!
Here's a cool site that makes creating really nice greeting cards or postcards super easy! It's a great way to use your photos and videos to create really nice looking cards or slideshows! It's basically a combination of greeting cards services where you pick pre-created cards and a desktop scrapbooking application where you can personalize cards! You pick a design or create your own and then personalize the card with text and pictures! And it's all on the web and all for free (well, at least the basic service). You only have to install a small little application that is used to connect to the SmileBox servers in order to design your cards. It's a great concept because new designs and templates can be added without having to download anything like you would have to if you had a desktop application. The application is so small simply because it is an interface only and all of the content is stored on the SmileBox servers.Once you install the application, you'll be prompted to creat

      Picture Postcards from LA
A quick post today... with a little musical recommendation :)You may remember Joshua Kadison from the early 90's.He wrote that great song "Jessie," one of the Magic AM favourites. To refresh your memory, the chorus goes: "Jessie, paint your pictures, 'bout how it's going to be... By now I should know better, your dreams are never free... But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea... Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me."(As a small sidenote, Kadison apparently wrote the song about Sarah Jessica Parker, the lead carnal sinner in Sex in the City.)Well, I'm writing today to recommend his album of the same name: JESSIE.This isn't his latest album -- and that's good for you, as it means you can grab a copy for just a few units of whatever currency you're using. And the songs are tireless.Jessie... Beautiful in my Eyes... and Picture Postcards from LA.They're simply beautiful. And so today, I'd really like to recommend this collection.Joshua Kadison is one talented sin

Other historical-type thingies...1. In 1846, Iowa became the 29th state to be admitted to the Union.(Happy Statehood Day to my beloved home state...)2. In 1937, composer Maurice Ravel died in Paris.(However, he left in his wake some of the best "music to have hot monkey sex" by. You go, Ravel!)____So, pals and gals, I must say this has been a very "bloggy" year for me. I learned a lot more about blogging than ever, and made some good friends. I'm fortunate to have done both. So just to be redundant, I wish all a happy 2007.First piece of business at hand...I got some response to my "Muppets" question! (Go to this entry for further explanation.)Jules' favorite Muppets are Grover and the heckling team of "Statler and Waldorf".Ed H. is a Kermit fan all the wayMs. Lifecruiser (a new visitor) had to pick Animal. How about you? Crash Bandicoot and other picture postcards...
Yep - that's D's new nickname thanks to my sister. He's pretty shell-shocked by the whole thing. I'm not sure why I'm not, but I guess it's the meds and the fact that I'm kind of glad to be rid of the damned Floydmobile.I only hope it dropped on my grandfather's head on its descent into hell. (Yes, the Floydmobile was totaled.)Anyway...we're using good ol' public transportation until we find another vehicle. At this point, I'm not really...well...INTERESTED in an SUV. We don't have the need for one...we don't have kids, and it's just too much of an expense as far as gas is concerned. Tryin' to be economical here. I'm not even going to TRY for one of those hybrid cars. The waiting list for those is MONGO huge. Not interested. I hate car shopping anyway...not fun being talked down to.So...enough o' my griping. What's going on elsewhere in my twisted li'l mind? Hmmm...let's see...Of course...the OSCARS!!!Thank god Scorsese won. Between him and Peter O'Too
