I’ve come to a rather sad conclusion - I must lead a very sheltered life. While many of the items that are prohibited are downright comical, some give me pause. Examples: “Photographic films, including plates and paper intended for photography.” Cameras cause a problem in all sorts of countries. Can’t have the public making a visual record of the government’s jackboot behaviour. Not that shitty emo band, But the actual post office. I went there today to fill out an application, because the ad in the newspaper said SEASONAL TEMPORARY HELP WANTED. It’s bound to be a shitty job, but I need money. And the pay is decent for a part time job. Well, there was a big problem, because my pen was blue. Apparently only black pens are acceptable at the post office. I’m not sure why, but the application said Blue ink and pencil not allowed. The shrew behind the counter wouldn’t give me a black pen because “everyone keeps stealing their black pens”… Which I can understand, because the black ones are so freaking rare and important, that everybody wants one.   This is one of the kindest things I’ve ever experienced.  I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a kind soul working in the dead letter office of the US Postal service.  Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month.  The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.  She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her.  I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words: Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog?  She died yesterday and is with you in heaven.  I miss her very much.  I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.  I hope you will play with her.  She likes to play with balls and to swim.  I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog.  I really miss her. A method of trading I picked up is to play the hot sectors. This is something DT turned me on to. If the sector up or rallying, find one of the lagers and buy them. If the sector is dieing, the sell the strongest.-The 3 charts above are from the ag chemicals sector - AGU, CF and MON (you could add TRA). My thought process here is bad earnings from MON pushed the sector down but yesterday there was good news from MOS. So during the MON conference call, I assume the sector would bounce back hard.-I first tried trading CF. I chased it and chased it and chased it. This I thought was going to be the best bouncer. At point 1 on the chart, it was just breaking out of it small openning morning range. I had an order in at 72.22 - no fill. Then it ran to 72.50, came back to 72.20 and I thought it was in a range of 72.20 to 72.50. Buy it at 72.30 and sell above the break of 72.50. No luck. Instead of covering that EP's territory again, with this album the duo crafts a poppier, new wave-inflected sound that recalls Tamborello's work with Figurine more than Dntel's lovely subtlety. However, Ben Gibbard's famously bittersweet vocals and sharp, sensitive lyrics imbue Give Up with more emotional heft than you might expect from a synth pop album, especially one by a side project from musicians as busy as Tamborello and Gibbard are. The album exploits the contrast between the cool, clean synths and Gibbard's all-too-human voice to poignant and playful effect, particularly on Give Up's first two tracks. It seems that Royal mail are set to continue their postal strike which will distrupt services over the next two weeks. The postal strike now enters its second phase as the CWU steps up industrial action further by creating two weeks of disruption to postal services. Today the Union announced that: “Although postal workers will individually take 2 days of strike action in the next two weeks, the strikes announced mean that there will be two weeks of continuous disruption to mail services.   The strikes call out separate functions nationally on different days and the timing is aimed at maximising the impact on mail.” However, this still doesn’t bring the dispute any closer to a resolution. A band like the Postal Service produces singles easily -- their trip-hop is fresh, sweet and wistful, as well as being wickedly catchy. And Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) and Jimmy Tamborell (Dntel) were in top form in the wistful, lyrically weird "We Will Become Silhouettes." A flowing, strange story-song, "We Will Become Silhouettes" tells what happens when for some reason, the air causes cells to "Divide at an alarming rate until our shells/Simply cannot hold all our insides in,/And that's when we'll explode/(and it won't be a pretty sight)." Interpret that as you will, but the apocalyptic whimsy of it is irresistable. A new song follows it: "Be Still My Heart," an enchanting little ballad with rapid percussion overlaid with organ and synth. "Nothing Better (Styrofoam Remix)" is a fair remix that is off in some parts (what is with that fizzing noise?) but retains the plaintiveness as the original. I love Netflix.  I seriously love Netflix.  And I often wondered how tempted a postal worker may be when he/she knows what is contained within those red envelopes.  Sure stuff gets lost in the mail.  Sure subscribers lose DVDs or try to keep them themself.  So tempting… But to think that you would get away with stealing 8000 DVDs?  Come on! Anthony Zuniga of Houston thought this.  Now he is locked up for 18 months after he was caught on surveillance tape stealing DVDs.  Then when his home was searched, over 8000 stolen pieces of mail were found.  This included mail rental DVDs from Netflix and Blockbuster.
