I have already posted picture from an ostrich farm, now this is from place named Rakši where you can relax, do some activities like paintball or just have a walking tour with these animals. They will bring your picnic bags and you will have a possibility to relax and feel like in Peru. Almost. I mean landscape is not the same. ;)

Here's something that's been fun that I've been waiting until the right moment to share. Enzie Shamiri is a portrait painter and a couple months ago she approached me about painting my portrait. The thought scared me silly--the very idea of having to stare at my face up on the wall was a terrifying thought but right after that first flash of fear passed I got pretty excited about the possibility of having a portrait of one of my children painted.Do people even get portraits painted anymore? What a romantic, thrilling concept--and I got giggly just thinking about it.The hard part is that Ms. Shamiri of course prefers to work from a live subject rather than a photo but since Andrew wouldn't let me send any of the kids to stay with her for several months while the portrait was being painte

It's that time again. We put our school books away until mid-summer, (we take our summer break in Spring when the sun won't melt our retinas), and I work hard to promote my portrait business. From: Why It's Time to Rethink the 70s by Bruce Schulman and Julian Zelizer Another reason for the scholarly bias against the 1970s concerns the peculiar focus of political historians. Scholars still tend to focus on presidents, their top advisers, and the exercise of executive power. As a result, the 1960s--a period that features the Camelot of John F. Kennedy and the tragedy of Lyndon Johnson--or the "Reagan Revolution" of the 1980s attracted more interest than a decade filled with corrupt or lackluster presidencies. Bob Dole, the long-time Senate Republican Leader and 1996 presidential nominee neatly, summarized this view when he described Presidents Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon respectively as "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and just Evil." While recent scholarsh

Something - someone - that I haven't written about it in a long time: my nephew, Tanner. He's dying. He has an aggressive form of muscular dystrophy - Duchenne's muscular dystrophy - and it's become painfully clear over the past few months that his is a more aggressive form of an already aggressive terminal disorder, which is why I haven't written about it in so long. It's too painful. He can no longer walk, at all. The muscles in his legs have deteriorated to the point where they are no longer able to carry him forward. His lungs and his heart are going to fail him in this way, too, but there's no wheelchair for the lungs or the heart. He's only eight years old. This is all happening much too quickly. For us, for him.His mother is my sister, my only sibling. If you'd asked me, say, twenty

That’s me. In ASCII. Isn’t that cool?
You know, ASCII:
American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII), pronounced /ˈæski/[1] is a character encoding based on the English alphabet. ASCII codes represent text in computers, communications equipment, and other devices that work with text.
I hope you’ll still be my friend after this revelation of the depth of my geekiness.

One of my sad little secrets is that I hate getting my children's pictures taken. Sure I take snapshots of them all the time but getting them bathed, dressed and marched down to the portrait studio at the mall just so I can pay Hannah Montana behind the camera beaucoup bucks to capture them grimacing in unison hasn't been high on my priorities list.Inevitably we get there and one of the kids has dried gum on their lips, has forgot their tie or has decorated their neck with temporary tattoos the night before. Oh, and there was the time that Spencer wanted to see what would happen if he stuck the tube from the central vacuum to his cheek while it was sucking. Three words: world's largest hickey. It just seemed to tempt fate whenever a picture was scheduled--and don't get me started on scho
This week I finally finished the gulls in the grass (helped by the fact that the schools' went back), started the next and final painting for the bird book (gulls again!) and also completed this painting of a pony. I hadn't noticed until I saw it on the computer screen that because of his markings and the angle, it could almost be a black pony with a strange white area behind it or a piebald.

Mrs. Johnson decided to have her own portrait painted by a very famous artist.
She told the artist, “Paint me with 3- carat diamond earrings, a large diamond necklace, glimmering emerald bracelets, and a beautiful red ruby pendant.”

4"X6" Oil on panel
It has been many years since I have attempted a self-portrait and the intervening years have not been kind. The result is both more and less hideous than the reality and even more humbling than this daily painting exercise is wont to be anyway. Is my face really that long? Probably not, although long and narrow has always been one of its defining characteristics. Nonetheless, I need to do more portraits and life studies and the self-portrait is the time-honoured method for honing that skill. I used a small make-up mirror, I was tempted to use the other side which would have given me a more abstract and even less recognizable picture, I may try that another time. I think I am going to try to do a self portrait every week or so in various different media.

Did you know it was not until the mid 1400s, when mirrors became more popular, that visual artists dared to refer to themselves as main subjects in their own work of art? Approximately 500 years later vocabulary of human culture was dramatically changed and self-portraits were already a popular form of expression. Used by true groundbreakers to express the zeitgeist of the pre-World War I and

There is so much currency in a happy song, enough to even tilt exchange rates in your favour if it successfully recalls bands like the incomparable Sunday’s (listen to the light charge of them acoustic guitars). Northern Portrait are a brand new band from Copenhagen and are signed to that treasure chest of jangle pop Matinée Recordings. ‘Crazy’ is the lead song from their debut ‘The Fallen Aristocracy’ EP and if it could be bottled you’d have a fortune-making de facto happy pill on your hands. Because we are living in the real world though it may be better to swing open the doors and give the birds in the trees a 3 minute break from their sweet tweeting. And you know the best thing, behind the sweet sounds lies a disarming description of some not-so-well controlled psychotic b
Probably the first thing to be said about portrait lenses is that you can take a portrait with just about any lens ever made. However some lenses tend to give better results than others, which is the point of this article. It's mostly about perspective. For "normal" portraits, does the lens render the image the way that you normally experience it - in other words does the portrait actually look like the person being portrayed? If it does then the lens might be considered a good portrait lens. If it doesn't, it would be more of a "special effects" lens. Now some people think that it's the focal length of the lens that governs perspective, but they'd be wrong. If you compare normal rectilinear lenses (i.e. not with fisheye lenses), the perspective is determined only by your distance from the

A new portrait (right) of famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was found. The oil painting measures 19 inches by 14 inches. It was bought by an American collector in 2005 from a descendent of Johann Lorenz Hagenauer who is said to be a close friend of Leopold Mozart, Wolfgang's father. The picture has been authenticated by Professor Cliff Eisen, a music scholar at King's College London. He described it as "arguably the most important Mozart portrait to be discovered" since the composer's death in 1791. Prof Eisen, who is to present his findings to academics at the Royal Musical Association on Saturday, said: "It is only the fourth known authentic portrait of him from the Vienna years, the period of his greatest professional successes and greatest compositional achievements." "Portrait of Ayn Rand" by Robert Tracy I have long regarded Robert Tracy as one of the best and easiest to admire artists. His excellent technical skills are coupled with wonderful insight and value."Robert Tracy is a self-taught romantic-realist artist. At the time he began his art career, non-objective art held a near monopoly to the claim of serious art. The art schools were among the staunchest supporters of that monopoly. The choice was to get on board or go your own way. Robert Tracy went his own way. What is that world? For the most part, it is a world of peace and absorption...Though there can be drama, there is little conflict and usually no social interaction." ―Robert Knapp, Ph.D. "Robert Tracy's work is clear and straight forward, beautiful colors, and precise drawing.
