Dopo anni, secoli di silenzio sono tornati i Portishead. Nel periodo in cui le reunion vanno per la maggiore finalmente un gruppo di cui si sentiva la mancanza.
Abbandonate quasi totalmente le sonorità che li hanno resi famosi, hanno sfornato il loro terzo album Third quasi inaspettatamente e spero non sia una mezza delusione. Ma purtroppo il trip-hop è morto, che ci possiamo fare :)
Beth e soci suonano domenica sera all'Alcatraz di Milano e la sera successiva a Firenze. Io ho comprato i biglietti su Ticketone due mesi fa e mi sparerò questa (breve) trasferta meneghina anche in caso di lebbra!

Después de la incertidumbre de muchos, la banda británica Portishead acaba de dar a conocer la fecha oficial en la que su nuevo álbum verá la luz. Esta producción, de la que aún no se sabe el nombre oficial, estará a la venta a partir del próximo 31 de marzo de 2008, bajo el sello discográfico Island Records. En este momento, Beth Gibbons y compañía se encuentran en el proceso de masterización del disco, y seguramente, andarán rolando los tracks por la red proximamente.
Banda formada por un par de ingleses en 1991, nombrada por el pueblo del mismo nombre. Este disco es el primero de dos, salió a la venta en 1994 y llegó a ser el #2 en el top de el reino unido, a pesar de la aversión de la banda de la atención de la prensa. Además de la pareja original (Geoff Barrow y Beth Gibbons), en este disco tiene una colaboración muy pesada el guitarrista Adrian Utley.En mi caso la banda con la que conocí el trip-hop y que mejor que con la música a todo volúmen, en esas pintas donde nos íbamos a casa de un cuate cuyos padres trabajaban y no estaban en la mañana, de esas mañanas llenas de drogas ligeras y ocio causado por la adolescencia jaja. Regresando al disco; teclados, uso de sampleos jazzistas, y de orquestas, una voz angelical acompañada de ritmos drumb & bass-ezcos, una guitarra que aparece solamente en el momento preciso y una melancolia que te embarga desde la primer nota.Disco para cortarse las venas en un dia nublado y frio, no lo puedo de
Posterior a algunos comentarios que hace Geoff Barrow de Portishead sobre el fenómeno Radiohead (en el cual compara la filosofía de compartir obras intelectuales con servicios de plomería, sí, leyeron bien, y si no me creen, lean esto), puede resaltar más información que sí nos interesa: todo sobre el nuevo disco de Portishead el cual acaba de finalizar la etapa de mezcla, es decir, solo falta que le den visto bueno, lo manden a masterizar y finalmente a maquilar. Puede ser que en esta última etapa el disco se infiltre en la red y entonces todos lo tengamos en nuestas PC's. Entonces, esto será buena señal de que Portishead porfin se presente en Coachella 2008?

Dark and moody, much of the album sounds like a memory...of a place you've been once, or a movie you saw, or music you heard as you drove by an open window or door late one night in the city. Some of it is incredibly sexy (like "Numb," "Pedestal," and the awesome "Glory Box"), other parts are mournful (like "Biscuit," "Sour Times," "It's a Fire," and "It Could Be Sweet"), and still more are mysterious or just plain funky ("Mysterions" and "Strangers").It's really hard to pick a favorite song on this album...almost all of them perfectly fit different moods I have at different times. They seem to encompass an incredibly vast range of modern urban sensitivities. "Sour Times" is, of course, wonderfully reminiscent of a moody classic spy flick while a song like "Strangers" bounces back and forth between an intense, pulsing beat like a walk through the club district of a large city and gentle, delicate interludes like the dawn over the Sea of Japan.My least favorite is "Wandering Star," w
The bad news is that there is no "Sour Times" to equal the first album's greatness. Lead single "Cowboys" doesn't do the trick, not with its '50s sci-fi dub vibe and the Yma Sumac stylings of Beth Gibbons. The upside is that this bold sophomore release is, even at this late date in trip-hop's evolution, still startling, thanks to the mix of Geoff Barrow's soundscapes and Gibbons's haunting wail.
