My mom always to occasionally have a meal with porridge once in a while. She loves it everytime we have porridge, and that's probably because she is a Teochew. So one day we drove past this place and noticed the sign board, Mother Porridge. The name of this place is supposed to be quite catchy in Chinese, Ma Zhi Juk.Their specialty is their Claypot Porridge. We usually would order plain porridge just as we would order plain rice when we order at a chinese restaurant. The only difference is that their porridge is actually flavoured, not too salty and not too bland (like those Teochew porridge). This style is actually a version of the Cantonese porridge, where the porridge is boiled down to little pieces and is quite thick. That night we ordered this fried beancurd with fish paste. Mor

I've been on a coconut kick lately, if you haven't noticed by my past few posts. These days I use coconut oil more than I do olive oil, because it's such a creamy, silken oil to work with. I like it better for high-heat cooking, more than any other oil. This morning, I was in the mood for porridge. I'd recently gotten some bulk medjool dates for a pie crust I'll be making soon, so I thought I'd try this out. Now, normally I work recipes from scratch, but I had to showcase this hot cereal mix. Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal is just amazing. I was gifted it by a friend awhile back, and I fell completely in love. Not only is it a easy mix to prepare, but the mix of brown rice, corn, buckwheat and sorghum gives the bowl a rich, gooey feel on the tongue. Paired with coconut oi
Madonna apparently wants to gain weight to please her husband Guy Richie, so she has started eating porridge for breakfast. Guy was worried that she had become too thin and gaunt, so the 49-year-old singer decided to temporarily abandon her strict macrobiotic diet.
Madonna took advice from Sting’s wife Trudi Styler, who suggested eating a filling breakfast could help improve her skin and take 10 years off her appearance.
A source said: “Guy prefers his wife when she looks girly and feminine. He’s not a fan of her more aggressive, super-toned and muscular look, which is why she has softened her image.”
“She used to start the day with a miso soup and a fruit smoothie but found porridge improved her skin and keeps her full for longer. She eats it after her daily exercise regime. But she has also been cutting back on the gym and weights, in favour of Pilates, which is why her arms look less sinewy.”
Earlier this week, Madonna sparked facelift rumours a

I swam longitudinally about 8 lapse, it was such a long time since I last gone for a swim. But I do not like to swim at Casablanca. The water is too shallow.
Went Casablanca For Swimming
This is a picture of Casablanca pool taken while waiting for Ricsson and Richard. They had went to the steaming room. The water in the pool was so cold today. We went to the swimming pool at about 4.30pm. When I reached there, I called my brother. He told me that Vanessa had just gone home from her swimming lesson. Nevertheless, she still joined us later on.
Cold Weather, Cold Water
The water was extremely cold. There was no sun today. Even Richard was scared to go into the water. I was very angry with him. He was the one who said want to go swimming but in the end, he was the one who did not want to swim. He just sat on the bench playing his games. I got fed up with him and told him off. Next he went into the pool finally.
Swimming Lesson
I was very amazed at Vanessa. She could
Uniquely Singapore! What can you do in Geyland?
An UntoldCityLife.com’s Taste Bud Review by Xiao Loong Zi
Overall taste bud: 3 stars (It costs me about $7/$8 for this meal)
What can you do in Geyland? Mmmmm, the very first thing in your mind must be “sex”, “sex” and “sex”!. Many Singaporeans and tourists visit Geyland not for the “kinky stuff” but for the foods!. Few years back in KL, a Teow Chew friend of mine brought me to a Teow Chew Porridge dinner nearby Times Square KL (opposite the Pudu Jail), since then I started enjoying eating Teow Chew Porridge. After the quest of finding “breast balls” in Geyland, I went to Lorong 17 for Teow Chew porridge. (The shop is a corner shop at the end of Lorong 17). I must tell you that there were more 30 - 50 dishes at that time in the shop! (see the amazing dishes below)

Sometime back I did a Roasted Duck Noodles in Herbal Soup, with the broth done by brewing the bones of the roasted herbal duck. A week later my husband brought home two roasted ducks from the Seventh Month Festival aka Ghost Festival (the Asian Halloween) praying session. My husband is in the Construction Industry and having a Chinese boss, praying during the seventh month of the Lunar Calendar is a must for them to ensure smooth and 'accidents' free operation.Anyway, I didn't waste the bones (again) and went ahead to make more broth with them. This time I cooked porridge with the broth with shredded duck meat in it. I tore out the skin and pan fried them without oil (They are like streaky bacon. See the oil later.) till they are crispy. I added the crispy skin on the porridge for that extra fragrant and bite. The kids love it so much, they finished it like hungry .... erm ... kids.http://feeds.feedburner.com/wokkingmum
There's a stall in Singapore, Geylang, that sells Frog Legs Porridge which is very famous. I haven't try it but everyone who had, tells me it's the best. It's not easy to prepare frog legs. To start with, one have to overcome the grossness of handling the skinless frog. That is if you are lucky to buy it dead with the skin already removed for you. I'm one of the lucky ones. I just have to bring them home and chop it into pieces. You can't overcooked the frog legs either as it will be too tough to even chew.Ingredients:Porridge cooked with Bone Broth3 Frogs, skinned and chopped Shredded Ginger for frying and steaming1/2 tablespoon Sesame Seed Oil for frying Seasonings: 1/2 tablespoon Chinese Cooking Wine1 teaspoon Light Soy Sauce 1 teaspoon Sesame Seed Oil Marinade: 1 tablespoon Chinese Cooking Wine1 tablespoon Light Soy Sauce1/2 tablespoon Sesame Seed Oil 1/2 tablespoon Ginger Sauce How to do it: Marinate the frog parts for half an hour. This recipe is nostalgic because it is what I used to have regularly during my schooling days. Sweet Potato Porridge is basically an “enhanced” porridge with the former adding sweetness to the porridge. It is, however, not eaten on its own. Rather, some side dishes compliments this simple but delicious porridge eg. ikan bilis snack or minced pork balls with preserved black beans. I usually have 2 bowls of this as the sweet potato somehow makes the porridge more appetising.
Mum usually uses the yellow-coloured sweet potato, probably because that is what is commonly found in the market. I think any type of sweet potato would do the trick. Try to get those which are less fibrous as it can be an irritant to have them in your mouth. This porridge is very simple to cook. You just add sweet potatoes into the porridge as you cook it! Yes, it is that simple! (more…)

My better half is feeling under the weather today and I rushed back from work earlier to tend to her. To be honest I did not have any peace of mind knowing she is by herself at home for the first time since she moved in with me. On my journey back I thought that some hot porridge would do her good.Upon reaching home I cooked up a plain chicken porridge (congee) for her and set aside some other ingredients to make Century Egg Porridge for her friend who came over and myself. I guess I shall keep it slightly short today and tend to her needs.Ingredients150g rice - wash and soak for 1 hour in clean water700ml chicken stock soup150g chicken meat - marinate with 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil and a dash of pepper3 century eggs - shelled and diced1 cooked salted egg - shelled and dicedSeasoning Ingredients1 tsp chicken stock granules1 tbsp garlic oil1 tsp sesame oilSalt to tasteGarnishing IngredientsChopped spring onionsChopped Chinese parsleyYoung ginger - cut in
