Sweden's Opeth recently filmed a promotional video for an edit of the song "Porcelain Heart". The clip was directed by Lasse Hoile (Porcupine Tree) and shot in Vaxholm, Sweden at the marvellous Bogesund castle, built in the 1640s. The edit was done by Jens Bogren and Opeth mainman Mikael Akerfeldt.Commented Mikael: "I think the video came out great! The location and the castle was beyond gorgeous, even though it was cold and empty in there and... yeah, a little scary too. Lasse and his team as well as the actors did a great job! Tuesday class' ceramic insectsI'm pleased to announce that I spoke with the director of the Art Student's League of Denver yesterday afternoon and she offered me a position as a summer kid's art camp instructor for 2008! Very excited about the possibilities. I can teach one class, repeat the class a different weeks or teach as many different classes as I can dream up. Fresh out of the kiln this AM - porcelain ginkgo tumblersI was so excited to open my kiln this am and while I had a couple of disappointments, I also had some sweet surprises. Mainly, I am so in love with these tumblers! I originally envisioned porcelain wine tumblers, but these might be a little too large at 4.5" x 2". On second thought, I just visited a really cool site that calculated the volume of liquid that these tumblers can hold which happens to be right around 6.2 oz. So - these could be used for a wee nip after all. These are not for the oenophile who expects a full bowl and elegant stem, but are rather for the person who savors the unique and handcrafted. As usual, I learned something about making these tumblers. The more successful ones are 6/32" thick. The thinner ones experienced more warpage during the glaze fire. Although the warped ones are charming in their own way, I'd prefer to have a more evenly round interior. These were made from slabs of clay and might

I hear the question often about how people usually "SEE" artificially looking veneers. Ironically, that's the whole point. Hopefully, from this day forward, we can enjoy warm spring days and warm garages.The top image is a porcelain platter that I made by rolling out porcelain clay in the slab roller at the Art Student's League of Denver. I applied a colored slip to the clay while it was still green, painted on my design with shellac and then sgraffitoed away. I'm not sure if that's the proper past tense spelling of sgraffito or not, so bare with me. After bisque firing and then glaze firing with a clear cone 6 glaze, the colored slip is a soft celery green color. Ceramic production has been slower than I would like, but I am making huge gains in making the garage studio become a reality. I have moved furniture around our house and have begun boxing up all of my 2-D art supplies that are currently in my basement studio and will begin the process of dragging them to the garage.Our TV room has become a 3rd bedroom, which my in-laws will love when they come out this next week. We have been making them sleep on a futon in the TV room for the past year and a half whenever they visit. Having an actual bed will hopefully be a pleasant surprise for them.
