He is Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and she is his former assistant Christine Beatty, you can google them for the whole nasty story. But this isn't the first time a mayor has been involved in a scandal or I am sure the last. Back in the the 70's when I live in Cincinnati, Jerry Springer (yes the same one) was the mayor. He was single at the time but he made the bad judgement of writing a prostitute he picked up in northen Kentucky a check for her services. Well the Cincinnati Enquirer obtained a copy of the cancelled check and ran it on the front page of the paper. That was the end of his political career and the beginning of a different kind of side show.
He was then told to resign after invoking outrage over wanting to find a way to prevent those living on government hand-outs from having an incentive to keep having more children for the government to support. Abrantes is a former City Clerk, a restauranteur, and a paralegal with the Danbury firm of Pinney Payne.Fayette County Commissioner Angela Zimmerlink is seeking re-election in the May 8 primary in Fayette County, Pa. Prior to her election four years ago, Zimmerman worked full-time as a paralegal in Greensburg. She is also chairwoman of the Fayette County Housing Authority. In today's Washington Post Article by David Nakamura and Dion Haynes on Mr. Fenty's school takeover plan we learn that the Mayor's 2 kids attend private schools.You know what is coming from me next. Why not just give up on the traditional public schools and allow all children to have a private school voucher? Then increase the dollar amount to match what is paid to charter schools.Then we will get a true educational marketplace in the District of Columbia. Until then it is just politics as usual.
