      Russia,Poland and Estonia Holiday
If you were to travel to Europe where would you like to travel? I think European countries like Russia, Poland, Estonia, Finland are excellent to visit. They have history and art and architecture and I love these. I have heard that June and July are the best month for touring around Russia, Poland or Estonia. Although I have heard a lot about these countries I have never been there so I hope I will get a chance to travel to these countries one day. Looking at the picture I really like to be there, you know what I mean? But if I were to go I would surely check out the best prices for the tour. I don't want to get in trouble and want to make sure that everything runs perfect on my tour. Racism in Poland, Slovakia etc.
The following is from a 'White Power' forum. Each paragraph is a new post. Caution - objectionable material. As I have noticed, there are no negroids in Slavonic countries. In Poland negroes are afraid to walk the streets. They fear Polish skinheads. And the same is in Russia. Russians sometimes kill negroes, while in Poland negroes are only beaten. In Slovakia there is a lot of gypsies, but completely no negroes. When a Polish woman marries a negro, she looses many friends, nobody want to be connected with her. A girl who had a negro boyfriend can't find any Polish boy. Nobody here wants a girl who was with negro. In Slavonic countries racism is probably the strongest in Europe.Blacks are not common thing in Poland. It's still quite exotic there. Bialowieza, Poland
I will never be able to pronounce "Bialowieza" but this trip is one of the best trips I have ever done in Europe. Bialowieza is an ancient forest located between Belarus and Poland. It is the only remaining piece of the once vast forest spread across the European Plain. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve. This forest is home to the endangered European Bison, elks, wild horses and wild horses. Unfortunately, we didn't see any bison inside the forest, we only saw some in the zoo. Since we were there for a scientific meeting, we were lucky to have the director of the Bialowieza National Park guide us through the forest. He told us the story of a lot of trees (under some trees transpired the love stories of many Russian aristocrats). I was really amazed

      Holy hill of Grabarka, Poland
Located in the eastern part of Poland, near the town of Siematycze, The Holy Mount of Grabarka (also Holy Hill of Grabarka) is considered to be the most important sanctuary in Poland for Orthodox Christians. The most distinguishing feature of this place is the mass of crosses surrounding the church brought by pilgrims to get salvation and good health. The site itself had been considered scared for 700 years but unfortunately the monastery burned down in 1990. It was reconstructed almost immediately. What is strange though is when I went inside the monastery, I didn't have a feeling of "new". I came here as a sidetrip of one scientific meetings I went to so I have no idea how to get there by public transportation or by car. We were nicely transported in a big bus from Bialowieza

We left Vilnius at around 6:30 AM. My fellow-traveller Giedrius was examining Auto-route software while I was driving my BMW :) It didn`t take long to reach Kaunas and soon we were at the border of Poland. After having a coffee and a sandwich in the last Lithuanian Statoil gas station we finally drove into the territory of Poland for the first time since we`re in Shengen area. We drove many kilometers through Suwalki, Augustaw, Bialystok, Warsaw, Wroclaw etc. and finally we reached the border of Czech Republic. That meant we`re almost there. Here started the mountain roads. I`ve never driven under such conditions befo

Poland Says It Has Agreed to US Shield
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Poland said Friday it has reached an agreement in principle with the United States on plans to install a missile defense system on Polish territory. Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski says that after meetings with U.S. officials, he is satisfied that the United States will deal with security problems that Poland wanted addressed as part of an eventual deal. The announcement should add momentum to a project the Bush administration has said it hopes to start building this year. The project, a major source of tension with Russia, had looked stalled since the Polish government of Donald Tusk sought new demands after taking office in November. Sikorski did not outline the terms of the deal, but in a joint appearance with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice after a worki

During our recent visit to Poland, we made several stops at several bookstores - some of them we already had a knowledge of, some of them were the new ones which are yet to be added to the Guide. We were unfortunate enough ('unfortunate' strictly from the Bookstore Guide point of view that is...) to be in Warsaw during the New Year Eve's holidays so none of the bookstores' doors were open to either us or anyone else. However, we peeked through the windows of one of the American Bookstore shops and a couple of days later, we actually visited one in a mall in Krakow - an were pleasantly surprised by the selection of books and their prices, having expected them to be higher (most of the books that we held in our hands were in the 'around the acceptable 10 euros' category). UK’s Queen set old-age record, EU emission regulations, Poland-Germany border open, Barack and Brad Pitt
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II set a new record as the nation’s oldest monarch, surpassing Queen Victoria’s record. Talk about a generation gap! As the U.S.A. Today notes, U.S. President Bush was 6 (!) when Queen Elizabeth took to the throne…though the Queen’s purpose is largely symbolic, I’m guessing she has a different perspective on world politics than the swashbuckler from Texas. Pervez Musharraf might be Pakistan’s unrelenting presidential leader, but behind all his political scheming, Musharraf is a man…and one who prefers “small dogs”?…(Sorry: I had to share this one. Read the full text at The New Yorker.) The E.U. has decided to get serious about auto emissions. Car companies are complaining (no surprise there), but it’s nice to know someone is looking out for clean air. In Poland, the final remnant of the Iron Curtain vanished into ether tonight, when the “once contentious” border between Germ

People visiting the house start to feel sea-sick once they are inside. "Mankind spoiling this world, and only mankind can fix it...", the owner of this new wonder said. The house took 5 times longer to build than a normal house. It took 114 days to build the structure - a typical project made by Czapiewski's cooperation which specializes in wooden houses, would normally take 21 days to construct. He remembers that his workers had to take an hour's break every three hours while working inside the house because they were feeling disorientated and confused from the strange angles of the walls. The upside down house is not the first unusual structure made or devised by Czapiewski. He is infamous for making the longest single piece of wood in the world - a Guinness World Record. EUROASIA: Poland demands a second ecological assessment of the gas pipeline. Nord Stream Pipeline
The decision to change the route of the North European Gas Pipeline (a.k.a. Nord Stream), which is being built by the Gazprom-controlled Nord Stream AG, may slow the project and increased its expense. Poland has suggested that it be given a second ecological assessment. Formally, Poland has no right to demand that, but it influence Sweden, and the pipeline passes through the waters of that country's economic zone. The initial ecological assessment cost more than $50 million. Polish authorities have used the change in the Nord Stream route as an excuse to press another claim against it. On Friday, the office of the Polish Minister of Economy Grzegorz Wozniak released an official statement by him. “We demand that repeat conciliation be begun in connection with he convention on possible influence on the environment,” the minister's statement reads. That is the Pole's response to the change announced last Tuesday in the route of the pipeline near the Danish island of Bornholm. Th

      Poland's Political Purgatory
This week, Polish president Lech Kaczyński called for early parliamentary polls this autumn. However, it is unlikely that elections will put a stop to Poland's political crisis. Instead, early polls may propel Poland into a prolonged political purgatory - further polarising positions between parties and political generations. For long, there was unity to avoid early elections within the ruling coalition government. The dominant party in cabinet, the Law and Justice Party (PiS), led by the Kaczyński twins, has shunned the option of early elections, while going to the polls this autumn, would cause the next elections to coincide with Poland's 2011 EU presidency. For remaining coalition partners, the Self-Defence Party and the League of Polish Families, early elections hold the prospects of potential political annihilation. Therefore, it is only after months of cabinet turmoil that the Polish president has finally concluded that there was no other way out than to take the drastic step i

Another master class day & invitation to Poland
Today we had another fine day at the master class. It is so great to see how everyone here is making progress, no matter what their skill level is. I cannot but to recommend this master class to everyone who wants a week of technical discipline in his conducting as well as very good insights to the practical side of working with orchestras. I got also some good news last night - I am invited to Poland, to the 8th Grzegorz Fitelberg competition in Katowice. I had to ask confirmation by email, since the web page still shows me as a reserve competitor. It will be great fun to go to another competition next autumn: First I will go to Croatia to the Matacic competition, where I will meet my new buddy Filip from this master class, and then I will compete with another new friend, Maja in Poland! And don't get me wrong, it will not be a bloody fight - I have noticed that competitions are a great way to meet nice people and have good time with your colleagues... ...if you are well enough prepa

Poland - A Traveller's Tale of History and Culture
So, it was that time of the year again...time to choose the next destination - time for some learning - a journey closer to home. This time I decided to visit Europe, to learn about our history, to gain an understanding about what happened in the Second World War. So, I was off to Poland. The trip started when I landed at an unfamiliar airport and shuffled onto a mini-bus with a group of strangers, all nervously introducing ourselves to each other... ...and that's where my first realisation commenced... ...I was getting on a minibus that was almost entirely populated by teachers... ...my first thought was to shrink down into my chair... oh my goodness, 2 weeks talking about school curriculum's and naughty children... this initial emotion was short lived as I began to chat to everyone. The first destination - Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. We were dropped off at our first hotel and soon off to the old city centre for some refreshments. That evening, the group were introduced to ou

poland behind 8 years on crazy falwellisms
tinky winky is baaaaaaack...too bad jerry falwell died before being able to see this little chestnut dug up 8 years later by the poles:Poland's child rights ombudsman said on Monday she was investigating whether "The Teletubbies," the British television show for infants, promotes homosexuality."It would be good for a group of psychologists to talk to children about this. We need to examine this. If inappropriate attitudes have been promoted, we need to react," said Ewa Sowinska. In an interview with the weekly news magazine Wprost, Sowinska said the character Tinky Winky was in the spotlight. The plump purple creature is considered male due to his relative height, but carries a handbag."I have heard that this could be a hidden homosexual insinuation," said Sowinska.Poland's deputy speaker of parliament Ludwik Dorn, a conservative Catholic, reprimanded Sowinska, telling her to avoid public statements that could make the ombudsman's office look "ridiculous," said Dorn's spokesman Witol

Poland & Ukraine Win UEFA 2012 Bid
Poland and Ukraine today won the bid to host the UEFA EURO 2012 Soccer Championship. The decision by the UEFA Executive Committee came as a most welcome surprise for two nations currently mared by political crisis. Beating the odds against favourite contender Italy, UEFA in a seminal decision opted for development instead of profit. By this brave and strategic decision, UEFA clearly showed that soccer is a concern for all or Europe, and not merely a concern of mighty nations of the EU. Sport is politics. This has been evident ever since the 1933 Berlin Olympics. Who gets to host a major international sports' event has enormous profits to gain economically and in terms of goodwill. However, it is also a big gamble, as the opposite is equally true if organisers fail to successfully go trough with the event. Then, it involves great losses in both profit and prestige for the states concerned.Faced by such considerations, the UEFA Executive Committee still decided for the Poland-Ukraine jo

Poland honors woman who saved 2500 Jews during WW2
An honor was held for Irena Sendler:WARSAW, Poland - A 97-year-old woman credited with saving 2,500 Jewish children during the Holocaust was honored by parliament Wednesday at a ceremony during which Poland's president said she deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.Irena Sendler, who lives in a nursing home in Warsaw, was too frail to attend the special session in which members of the Senate unanimously approved a resolution honoring her and the Polish underground Council for Assisting Jews. The group's members, mostly Roman Catholics, risked their own lives to save Jews from the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Poland.Sendler was cited for organizing the "rescue of the most defenseless victims of the Nazi ideology — the Jewish children."President Lech Kacyzinski said in an address to senators that Sendler is a "great hero who can be justly named for the Nobel Peace Prize.""Every child saved with my help and the help of all the wonderful secret messengers, who today are no longer living, is the

Energetic priorities in Poland and EU (globalwarming awareness2007 approach)
Latest surveys results are not very optimistic. Poland and the rest of the European Union has completely different Energetic priorities. It is even worse than it sounds. Poles are not interested in globalwarming awareness2007! Only 32% of Polish citizens do care about climate changes (comparing to 50% in EU) and almost 27% doesn’t realize that globalwarming is a treat (12% in EU). It is not much better when talking about using and developing modern energy-saving technologies - only 52% of people in Poland think about it, when this number in the rest of EU is approximately 20% higher… So my all dear friends in Poland - let’s change these statistics, we can care much more about our environment!
