A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet, often using syndication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers. The term podcast, like "radio", can refer either to the content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.Thou
Recently I have started another sort of media broadcast other than video. I recently did 2 interviews with 2 great people on PPC Marketing and Being Passionate about your Niche. Both these interviews were not my standard email interviews. I actually spoke to these people live and we had a great discussion and interview. I decided to dive into podcasting after Affiliate Summit West. The reason for this is because I wanted to be more interactive than just the standard text.
Text interview becomes boring - there is no interaction. Standard text can not be very interactive; you can not jump in and over discuss a specific topic or go into greater detail. Podcasting gives me the chance to learn more about the person, as if we are talking to each other over a drink. With podcasting I can ask the

Videoblogs, or vlogs, are relatively new to the real estate industry.
But there is a growing community of experienced videobloggers outside of the real estate industry. They make up the bulk of the users on the “by invitation only” Seesmic.com. Scott Bourne - Podango Productions and Craig Syverson - Grunt Media presented tips and strategies on Podcasting. Visit this page on GruntMedia for more information, links and presentation materials from this session.
A few notes from this primarily Q&A session...
Concept - what are you trying to accomplish - what is your outcome?
Strategy - how does this fit overall; how will you grow? how will you assess value? what are its unique qualities? Audio: Longer. Focus, specialized content. Casual and candid.
Video: Shorter. Non-fictional. Shows 5 minutes or less. Simple.
Format - Repeat programs (show) require a format. Consistency = professionalism. Tie in with your concept. Tightens it up. Content is king.
Pay attention to the sound quality for audio and video recording.

Just a few weeks ago tour blog was dominated by the iPhone, now it’s the iPlayer that’s making the headlines. We’re talking about the BBC’s on demand TV service which will enable internet users to watch programmes within seven days of broadcast, and it’s free. It’s a great idea, and should be a fantastic resource, but it’s currently only compatible with Windows XP users, which has left some people frustrated. Well, when we say some, we mean at least 16,000..because that’s how many have signed an e-petition protesting about the rollout of the service. They want the BBC to develop the system for non-windows platforms, and argues that the current format excludes certain people, therefore goes against the corporation’s ethos. The deadline for signing the petition passed at the beginning of this week, and now the campaigners are waiting for a government response. (more…)
Although I will be taking a real break from the blog for the rest of August (I'll be back in early September), I have put together two podcast episodes which will be "magically" appearing while I'm gone. One will come out this Sunday morning (8/26) and one next Sunday (9/2). These will not appear on the blog or the podcast page (until I get back, at least), so you'll have to be subscribed to the podcast to get these episodes.How do you subscribe? It's easy (and free!). Just click here and select how you'd like to get the podcast (iTunes, e-mail, Google Reader, Bloglines, Juice, etc.) and it will be delivered every week like clockwork. You can cancel it with no hassle at all and you'll never be spammed (podcasting is clean that way).

Chennai, June 9 (IANS) Podcasting is yet to catch up in India, but the presence of a student of class 2 and another of kindergarten among the 200-odd participants at a workshop here on the next-generation medium shows its future.
The two-day meet, ‘Podworks’ which began Saturday at the TIDEL park auditorium in the city’s IT hub, brings together IT and mobile technology users involved in podcasting, and those wanting to get initiated into this new interactive medium.
Podcasting is a new way of communication in which, instead of reading the content on the computer screen one listens to it on an iPod or an iPod-like device.
“It will impart basic knowledge on how to create and upload podcasts (audio-video mix on the net) and aims to increase the trend of podcasting in India,” said Kiruba Shankar of The Knowledge Foundation, organisers of the meet.
One of India’s leading bloggers, Shankar hosts a podcasting show in which he interviews CEOs of Indian IT c

How to Enter the Contest

I've heard a few podcasts recently where the podcaster recorded their show live in front of a Ustream audience. Ustream is basically a site which streams live webcam video and audio and provides a chat window for interaction.On May 3rd, CC Chapman of Accident Hash broadcasted and recorded this show live with the talented Matthew Ebel in nearby "Metrowest Boston". I remember seeing the twitters about it at work, but of course Ustream is blocked from my work. I listened to the show later and it was really cool.On May 8th, my favorite podcaster, Father Roderick, broadcasted the 300th episode of the Daily Breakfast live on Ustream. Thankfully, he also recorded it with his other video camera and posted the video which I watched later. During the live broadcast, UStream featured his stream on the front page and he had over a hundred viewers. Watching the video, you can really observe his craft: multi-tasking by fluently speaking a 2nd language, seamlessly clicking his bumpers in CastBl
We had huge potential. I heard about Podcasting in some obscure tech magazine or forum or something, before Apple had even heard of it, and Adam Curry was the only one doing it. I already had a nice microphone an something to record with cause I liked audio. My wife and I were sharing our apartment with our good friend, Zach, in Wheaton, the last semester of our senior year of college. I was trying to sell Zach on the idea that we should be podcasting. He’s funny, smart, witty, and I can press record. Needless to say, in the spring of 2005 in didn’t happen. We could have been famous.
Okay, maybe that was a pipe-dream and we never would have had even a couple minutes of fame. But we did stat podcasting. We jumped on the bandwagon in December of 2005 and did it mostly cause we wanted to. Zach and I were calling each other from different states, but it’s been fun to do. As you know, the podcast isn’t really running these days. We lost steam, but for those who are

Well, I mentioned a bit ago that I was planning to do some podcasting if I could get the time and that is still the case. I haven’t done it yet though because I am waiting for my brand new microphone to arrive. I’m hoping the sound quality will be better than my headset. After I get it I’ll be sure to post and put up a podcast soon after.

I always wanted to be a DJ. No, really I did... but then again I always wanted to become a garbage collector because I thought they used to work for only one day in a week. So I think I'm going to try my hand at podcasting and see how it goes. I'm not a professional nor do I have all the equipment, but hey one had to start somewhere. Perhaps if the beyond teck podcacst is really awesome I might invest more time into getting better gear so that I can talk about more tutorials.As for the topic I'm thinking talking about tips and tutorials more than taking about news and my take on things. I think everyone has their own opinion and listening to someone else's opinion is just a waste of time. So I'm not going to waste your time I'm just going to try and make you more smarter. I wont vent about things like David Pogue does.. I promise.Does this sound good or what?

I like to tell people that my wife and I are among the first people to produce an independent travel podcast. No one is ever really that impressed.
Maybe I should just stop fishing for compliments.
The back story here: my wife and I were married last May and immediately took off on a round the world honeymoon. We produced a video podcast called, “The Traveling Morans.”
If you're thinking of doing something like I did, maybe I can help. Here are a few things that worked for me.
Make it Different
I always thought of our podcast as a show I would like to watch if it were on regular TV. In my opinion, lots of travel shows these days still have the same, "lets all marvel at this beautiful old building behind me†sort of feel.
I think that if you want to get people interested in what you're doing, you need a hook (if the "beautiful old building†concept is what you're going for, don't let me stop you).
“The Trave
Hey guys,I'm on the verge of being un-grounded, and I'm able to post every once in awhile. My question to you is - do you think I should get into podcasting? Would you find a weekly show valuable and useful? Or would I be wasting my time?Comments wanted.
Well, not exactly podcasting, as that is far to grand a word for what I am going to do, but I am going to be putting up an audio file which will act as my post along with what I’m actually talking about in it (so you can skip ahead to what you want to hear, though obviously you’ll want to listen to all of it). I’m hoping to do the first one later this week or early next, depending on how long it takes me to work out the kinks with my experimentation up to this point.

One of the comments on our recent post about interactive podcasting outfit, Waxxi, asked:
More to the point (which is marketing, yes?) how are advertisers using podcasts, or are they? Does the Creative Department have ideas on how to use Podcasts?
I provided a quick rundown of podcasting’s benefits in response, but I figured that today I’d provide a little more detail for companies wondering whether they should jump into the podcasting pool. So, in true Late Show with David Letterman fashion, I give you:
Cool Factor
Having a podcast means that you not only recognize the benefits of podcasting, but that you are up-to-date with current trends.
Improve Interviewing and Media Relations Skills
Practice makes perfect and podcasting gives you the opportunity to interview and be interviewed as much as you want.
Convenience
Once customers subscribe to your podcast, you don’t have to remind them to download new episodes. Instead, your message lands directly on your customers’ de
This is a follow-up, or more accurately an add-on, to this morning’s Go forth and podcast post.
First up, some simple technical clarification. Podcasting can take two forms: audio or video. The 5fm competition welcomes entries in either format.
However, it seems the audio podcasting format is dying a slow death – at least in terms of its revenue potential. Conversionrater.com published an article today entitled Five Reasons Audio Podcasting Isn’t Going Anywhere. They reckon audio podcasts suck because:
They’re hard to scan quickly;
They’re hard to link to a specific point in a podcast;
Downloading and managing the files sucks;
Amateur podcasting is hard to take;
Audio advertising isn’t moving quickly.
In my previous post I put forward the opinion that “this competition can only do good things for the promotion of the Internet as a powerful platform on which the opinionated voices of Joe and Jill Soap can be widely heard
First there was the call-in radio show. And it was good…ish.
Then there was the online chat. And it, too, was good-ish.
Now, straight outa the Southern California, comes the interactive podcast. The whuh?
You heard me. Podcasts. Interactively.
What are interactive podcasts?
An interactive, participatory, podcast is one in which you, the audience (or ‘podience’) member, can participate in the conversation – or the podcast – and have an opportunity to ask questions of the podcast guests (such as Robert Scoble and Shel Israel), or make a comment on the topic (such as Business Blogging). The focus of the conversation is around you, and the global audience members and the topic at hand. Our guests, often industry experts or thought leaders, join in response to what you have to say.
It’s like talk radio, only on your computer. A prodcast.
Waxxi, a Santa Barbara startup that launched last year with its inaugural interactive podcast that did indeed feature Robert Scoble
I’m all caught up on my feed reading again! So the link blog is jam packed with the latest news.
While sadly reading about the death of the webcast which is something web broadcasters should be fighting tooth and nail against, I was interested to see a digg article stating that PodShow (who host my podcast btw) have only approximately 12000 downloads a month.
Um, can you smell the BS? I can.
That would mean that my little show was responsible for 1.725% of thier total downloads last month, and I don’t think that’s right! Neither does Adam Curry!
Speaking of my show, it has, according to Podshows stats, been requested 262 times so far. Not bad for just little old me and 4 episodes. I wonder how many requests the Coffee with Rex Dixon show I was on got? Think I’ll fire an email off to Rex and find out!
Now, as I mentioned earlier, I’m on Twitter now (pauloflaherty), and I can’t help shake the feeling that Steve Hodson is right again! Twitter is littl
