A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet, often using syndication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers. The term podcast, like "radio", can refer either to the content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.Thou

      Podcasting for the Beginners
Recently I have started another sort of media broadcast other than video. I recently did 2 interviews with 2 great people on PPC Marketing and Being Passionate about your Niche. Both these interviews were not my standard email interviews. I actually spoke to these people live and we had a great discussion and interview. I decided to dive into podcasting after Affiliate Summit West. The reason for this is because I wanted to be more interactive than just the standard text. Text interview becomes boring - there is no interaction. Standard text can not be very interactive; you can not jump in and over discuss a specific topic or go into greater detail. Podcasting gives me the chance to learn more about the person, as if we are talking to each other over a drink. With podcasting I can ask the

BBC launch on demand TV, Skype suffers outage and the future of Podcasting
Just a few weeks ago tour blog was dominated by the iPhone, now it’s the iPlayer that’s making the headlines. We’re talking about the BBC’s on demand TV service which will enable internet users to watch programmes within seven days of broadcast, and it’s free. It’s a great idea, and should be a fantastic resource, but it’s currently only compatible with Windows XP users, which has left some people frustrated. Well, when we say some, we mean at least 16,000..because that’s how many have signed an e-petition protesting about the rollout of the service. They want the BBC to develop the system for non-windows platforms, and argues that the current format excludes certain people, therefore goes against the corporation’s ethos. The deadline for signing the petition passed at the beginning of this week, and now the campaigners are waiting for a government response. (more…)

      Podcasting from Hawaii...sort of
Although I will be taking a real break from the blog for the rest of August (I'll be back in early September), I have put together two podcast episodes which will be "magically" appearing while I'm gone. One will come out this Sunday morning (8/26) and one next Sunday (9/2). These will not appear on the blog or the podcast page (until I get back, at least), so you'll have to be subscribed to the podcast to get these episodes. How do you subscribe? It's easy (and free!). Just click here and select how you'd like to get the podcast (iTunes, e-mail, Google Reader, Bloglines, Juice, etc.) and it will be delivered every week like clockwork. You can cancel it with no hassle at all and you'll never be spammed (podcasting is clean that way).

Okay, maybe that was a pipe-dream and we never would have had even a couple minutes of fame. But we did stat podcasting. We jumped on the bandwagon in December of 2005 and did it mostly cause we wanted to. Zach and I were calling each other from different states, but it’s been fun to do. guest post by Brendan Moran I like to tell people that my wife and I are among the first people to produce an independent travel podcast. No one is ever really that impressed. Maybe I should just stop fishing for compliments. The back story here: my wife and I were married last May and immediately took off on a round the world honeymoon. We produced a video podcast called, “The Traveling Morans.” If you're thinking of doing something like I did, maybe I can help. Here are a few things that worked for me. Make it Different I always thought of our podcast as a show I would like to watch if it were on regular TV. In my opinion, lots of travel shows these days still have the same, "lets all marvel at this beautiful old building behind me" sort of feel. I think that if you want to get people interested in what you're doing, you need a hook (if the "beautiful old building" concept is what you're going for, don't let me stop you). “The Trave

      Podcasting: video wins, audio loses
This is a follow-up, or more accurately an add-on, to this morning’s Go forth and podcast post. First up, some simple technical clarification. Podcasting can take two forms: audio or video. The 5fm competition welcomes entries in either format. However, it seems the audio podcasting format is dying a slow death – at least in terms of its revenue potential. Conversionrater.com published an article today entitled Five Reasons Audio Podcasting Isn’t Going Anywhere. They reckon audio podcasts suck because: They’re hard to scan quickly; They’re hard to link to a specific point in a podcast; Downloading and managing the files sucks; Amateur podcasting is hard to take; Audio advertising isn’t moving quickly. In my previous post I put forward the opinion that “this competition can only do good things for the promotion of the Internet as a powerful platform on which the opinionated voices of Joe and Jill Soap can be widely heard

      Interactive Podcasting
First there was the call-in radio show. And it was good…ish. Then there was the online chat. And it, too, was good-ish. Now, straight outa the Southern California, comes the interactive podcast. The whuh? You heard me. Podcasts. Interactively. What are interactive podcasts? An interactive, participatory, podcast is one in which you, the audience (or ‘podience’) member, can participate in the conversation – or the podcast – and have an opportunity to ask questions of the podcast guests (such as Robert Scoble and Shel Israel), or make a comment on the topic (such as Business Blogging). The focus of the conversation is around you, and the global audience members and the topic at hand. Our guests, often industry experts or thought leaders, join in response to what you have to say. It’s like talk radio, only on your computer. A prodcast. Waxxi, a Santa Barbara startup that launched last year with its inaugural interactive podcast that did indeed feature Robert Scoble

      Twitter, webcasting, podcasting, IRC?
I’m all caught up on my feed reading again! So the link blog is jam packed with the latest news. While sadly reading about the death of the webcast which is something web broadcasters should be fighting tooth and nail against, I was interested to see a digg article stating that PodShow (who host my podcast btw) have only approximately 12000 downloads a month. Um, can you smell the BS? I can. That would mean that my little show was responsible for 1.725% of thier total downloads last month, and I don’t think that’s right! Neither does Adam Curry! Speaking of my show, it has, according to Podshows stats, been requested 262 times so far. Not bad for just little old me and 4 episodes. I wonder how many requests the Coffee with Rex Dixon show I was on got? Think I’ll fire an email off to Rex and find out! Now, as I mentioned earlier, I’m on Twitter now (pauloflaherty), and I can’t help shake the feeling that Steve Hodson is right again! Twitter is littl

I am in the process of implementing podcasting on my feeds so that people can listen to my writings. This is part of my effort to make things as appealing to my readers as possible. With that being said, I have uploaded Podpress to my site which should make it somewhat easier–although with a [...]

      Catholics Podcasting: The Catholic Show
What do you do when you have an ancient religion full of rules, orders, and general old-fashionedness? You podcast of course. Or at least that’s what the folks over at the Catholic Show are doing.  Their mission is to portray the Catholic church as new, hip, growing, and not quite as old fashioned as folks think they are.  Is thier podcast a success?  I guess you won’t know unless you listen. PodCasting and RSS
Have you heard the words "Subscribe to our Podcast" lately? What about RSS? Podcasting is new method for distributing media over the internet. Essentially, when you "subscribe" you are signing up to receive automatic downloads of content from a feed that is either in RSS or Atom syndication format. These feeds can be providing video, audio, news headlines and articles, and lots of other content. You don't need an iPod to receive podcasts, but you will need an RSS aggregator, which is software that "reads the feeds".Here is a non-technical explanation of RSS.

      Podcasting For Fun and Profit
Dear Friend,I don't know about you, but I'm a pretty skeptical person.I see letters about "amazing opportunities" and "getting in the ground floor" and I usually trash them before I get to the end.I don't want to offer you an "amazing opportunity" or a chance to "get in on the ground floor" because this letter will probably end up where all the others do.I Want To Give You Some Valuable Information Totally Free To You, For Taking The Time To Read This Message!Information is good, right? I mean, without it, how would we make decisions? We'd be floundering in a sea of indecision or (worse yet) a bad decision! And free is good, right? You bet!So what is this free information? It's simple,I want to tell you about how you can be entertained and informed at your convenience, plus maybe make a little money to boot!.That's it. No gimmicks.I want to tell you about a new technology on the Internet that has allowed people to get information and entertainment, plus make s

      Google powers podcasting ads growth
Google powers podcasting ads growth Podcasting advertising revenues are expected to rise five folds in the next five years. That would mean marketers will spend $400 million dollars on podcasts in 2011, which would be only 2% of spending expected this year in the interactive ad market. Analysts expect Google GOOG to develop an audio version of AdSense which would allow any podcast producer to
