House Press Secretary Scott McClellan will publish a memoir in April titled “What Happened.” In an excerpt posted by his publisher, McClellan implicates “the President himself” in the Valerie Plame scandal:

Even though we all know Richard Armitage is the one who leaked her identity, Plame and her idiot husband continue to peddle the fantasy that the Bush Administration leaked her identity on purpose.
Richard Armitage leaked her identity in passing because he’s a gossip. As Deputy Secretary of State he was one of the most outspoken critics of the Iraq war and was certainly not considered an ally of the Bush Administration.
Of course, Valerie Plame doesn’t plan to let a little thing like “truth” get in the way of her book sales. She was after all so distraught after her identity became public, she immediately posed with her husband for Vanity Fair.

Of course it's treason, and the standard punishment for treason in this country for decades was execution. But that changed when they started handing out life in prison sentences to our double spies. There's a lot of speculation that her opening statement is totally fabricated and full of lies. Investigations with neighbors revealed that in fact many of them did in fact know she worked for the CIA. Many attest that she was never a covert CIA operative at all, just an average managerial employee. Her statements about Scooter Libby are very carefully worded to implicate him without saying it directly. I don't know for sure if she was recklessly exposed by the administration for purely political reasons. To be perfectly honest it wouldn't surprise me greatly to hear that was the case. Things I learned today on the intraweb:Valerie Plame was a covert CIA agent. Her covert assignment was verified by the current head of the CIA. She was not a desk jockey or a pencil pusher, but an actual undercover field operative, until she was outed by the White House.Which would be the same White House that conveniently neglected to find out which one of their minions committed treason.
