I have just noticed that my 1938 Singer has a solid foot and my 1953 Singer has the typical foot on most new machines (the foot that pivots on a pin) I have never seen the solid foot before and I am know wondering what the advantages or disadvantages of using either is, for example can you use the solid foot without needing to use a jean-a-ma-jig? I was wondering if anyone has tried using Nancy Zieman's method of Pivot and slide to grade patterns ?
I read the Threads article about grading and they mention a method using pattern shifting with a special ruler. I tried some experiments with pattern shifting (I don't have the ruler and couldn't find it online - FIDM pattern scale) which seems so much quicker then cutting the pattern apa
I followed THESE instructions to increase the bustline, trying to see if it would work on the front only. I ended up with a longer front than back. I think this is the intended results, but maybe I made a mistake?
So, how do I use the pivot and slide method (I don't want to slash!) to increase the bustline in the front only? I am small busted, and I don't think I need the extra length, just wid
