      Pinkberry Coming to Boston?
I thought that title might get your attention. Mayor Menino is in Vegas this week for the International Council of Shopping Centers Convention and has been meeting with a bunch of retailers that hopefully will be coming to Boston soon.Possibilities include: Steve and Barry's. Ulta, Another Morton's, Another Wagamama, and last but certainly not least - Pinkberry.Menino also met with Pinkberry, a

      Pinkberry
Since I covered Flurt and Yolato, I felt like I had to try Pinkberry today to feel complete. Pinkberry has three flavors and I sampled each. The coffee was vile, sour coffee is not a good thing, the green tea didn't taste enough like green tea, but the plain was good if you think of it as a yogurt flavored sorbet. It's not creamy enough to call it frozen yogurt for me, so in that arena, only Flurt

      Pinkberry Substitute
Ever had Pinkberry? I had it for the first time about a month or so ago while I was in New York. I'll admit that it was pretty tasty, and it was nice with the fresh fruit toppings. Steep price though. I think it was like $7 or $8 for a large. Yesterday's Globe had a plug for another low-calorie frozen yogurt called Frogurt. My first reaction is....terrible name. It's almost as bad as when they named Botox by combining the terms 'botulism' and 'toxin.' Anyway, Frogurt is available at the Three Sisters ice cream shop in Providence. It's a 45 minute drive versus a 4 hour drive to NYC to get your '25 calorie an ounce' frozen dessert fix. I'll report back once I have a chance to drive down there and try it. For those of you out for summer. Here's the address for you to check it out if you've got time.1074 Hope StProvidence, RI 02906(401) 273-7230Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com

      Pinkberry Schminkberry
I was soooo excited to try Pinkberry. We were just a few blocks away after our lunch at Home. And anytime you can actually walk in LA is an opportunity not to be missed.Pinkberry is, depending on you talk to, a frozen yogurt store or a "frozen dessert" store. The yogurt is actually powdered, so doesn't really count as real frozen yogurt. As we approached the door, I said this store's design has a strong Asian aesthetic. DUH! Well, I didn't know...but the Hello Kitty lookalike objects on the wall were a definite giveaway.D(aughter) loves Pinkberry and particularly touted the low fat, low calorie count in each cup. Her buddy, K, came with us and recommended the fresh fruit topping. They both said it was all about the toppings. Apparently, there's one secret one that doesn't appear on the menu, but it's very popular. You order it as "Rice Cakes", and it is actually mochi. Now, I love a good mochi, so I was anxious to try it. There are 2 flavors of frozen yogurt, Plain (which is kind

Frozen Yogurt: Pinkberry in LA, Red Mango in South Korea
If you are not aware, there currently is red hot frozen yogurt war going on in Los Angeles. There's a frozen yogurt chain called Pinkberry (also known as "Crackberry" to many celebrities, such as the locked up Paris Hilton; the original "Crackberry" is Research in Motion's wireless handheld device, the Blackberry). One blogger suggests it could become the next Starbucks. Some say it's a knock off of the Red Mango frozen yogurt chain in South Korea. I've never tried Pinkberry, but I'd like to compare the taste with Red Mango. There is a Red Mango location about 5 minutes away from us in Mokdong. With the weather heating up, I expect us to be making a few more visits in the near future. Here are a few recent pictures from our trips to Red Mango. I must admit, this frozen yogurt tastes awesome--some of the best I've ever had. It definitely helps cool you down on a humid and hot summer's day. This was from the Mokdong location. We ordered a regular sized frozen yogurt with five toppin

Where:Pinkberry7 West 32nd StreetNew York, New York 10001212-695-9631When: January 24, 2007At first I thought Pinkberry was just another café that goes in and out of Koreatown. But it is actually part of a yogurt store chain from California started in February 2005. Now it already has eleven locations in California and three in New York City.A Medium Sized Combo with Kiwi, Mango and CookiePinkberry's main product is yogurt. It is as smooth and firm as gelato, but it comes only in plain and green tea flavors for now. The toppings, however, include cereal, cookie, blueberry, kiwi, mango, raspberry and strawberry. All the fruits are fresh just like the yogurt, which has no preservative. The combination is refreshing sweetness brought out by yogurt's mild sourness.

The Pinkberry, Red Mango, Yogurtland Takeover
So maybe frozen yogurt doesn't have much street cred, but I think this recent phenomenon is worth observing. For the last several years, the plain tart frozen yogurt has had more and more people lining up out the door. From what I've heard, this trend has only really hit Southern California ...
