Geneva Show 2008 Highlights: Pininfarina Sintesi Concept
Design Director Lowie Vermeersch said to us: "We like cars that are long and low". And the Sintesi is just that. At 4800mm long, it is slightly shorter than a Mercedes-Benz E-class, but at 1280mm it is slightly lower than a Porsche 911. The reason for this is not simply that the Pininfarina design team love long low cars, but because the design is based on 'liquid packaging' - which essentially means that the core technical elements may be separated and positioned all over the car.The Sintesi has a central fuel cell spine whose shape helps create a long diffuser under most of the car, and an electric motor powering each wheel. This technical configuration allows passengers to sprawl out over the long cabin which is Chief Designer Fuiseppe Randazzo's take on modern luxury. The core design in

Maserati to present all new Pininfarina designed Coupe next week
The countdown has begun for the model that restored Maserati's name to glory; according to Quattroruote, the Italian firm will give us a sneak peek of the all-new Coupe next Tuesday, prior to its official debut at the Geneva Show in March. Apart from the name change, perhaps the most significant news is the fact that Maserati has ditched Giugiaro for Pininfarina. If the translation I made from Quattroruote is correct, what we're seeing here are early-stage sketches obtained from Pininfarina. We'll have more on the Coupe's successor later on the weekend. Tata and Pininfarina Sitting in a Tree
The Times of London reports that Indian automaker (and Jaguar and Land Rover's new Daddy) Tata Motors will develop an Indian design and manufacturing center in Pune with iconic Italian design house Pininfarina. Tata will also "participate" in Pinin's $100m capital increase (a.k.a. bailout) this summer. The Times notes that Pininfarina's controlling family could be about to unload as much as 55 percent of the Italian firm's stock, opening the possibility of a complete Tata takeover. With ties already close between Tata and Fiat, a joint ownership scenario is also possible. In case you haven't guessed where all this is headed, Tata has set aside $1b for the development of new Jaguar models. Tata and Pinin are already hashing-out the next gen Jags, with an F
