How To Make a Basket Pincushion
Looking over at my sad, tired pincushion, I new it was time for a change. My old one was the standard tomato and it had served me well. It had been with me through prick and pin. It stood by my side in my first sewing class. Farewell, tomato.Seriously, this pincushion was inspired by all the Easter baskets I've seen lately. There is no sewing involved and it only takes about ten minutes to make. I made the pins as well. They're more for looks than anything else. I'm not sure if you would want to use them for sewing honestly. Directions for both projects below.Pincushion BasketSuppliessmall basketscraps of fabric, depends on the size of your baskethot gluestuffing*If your basket has a more open weave, you will want to line the inside with the fabric you are using. Does this Ostrich Look Like a Pincushion or a Rubber Chicken??
Here are some more pictures from Aruba. They are of ostriches from an ostrich farm there. They are really big funny looking birds, and they live at this farm to educate people who come to visit. Mom said that the guide at the farm told her that the females get really jealous of each other. When one female has a male partner, she will pluck the feathers out of any other female that shows any interest in that male. The male will then start plucking the feathers out of the new female too, just to act like he was supporting his girlfriend! I think this is so silly! Sometimes I wonder about my animal friends! This does not sound like normal behavior!

      More pincushion dressforms
Gee whiz, two posts in two days. I'm on a roll.... I've just finished two more of my pincushion dressforms for our local fabric shop. I thought they looked pretty swishy, and that's a completely unbiased opinion...;o)... They have totally different looks because they simply just took on a life of their own and I just went with the flow. The faces are done with Sherry Goshon's "Joy" pressmold. The

      Newest Pincushion Mannequins
I thought I would show you my latest works. I have been busy working on having some of my dolls in shops in town here and fortunately I have been well received by three so far. Now I don't intend to outfit the whole town with dolls, well that might be kind of exciting to...but...the beauty of a small town is that each store has it's own theme. These pincushions are going to the quilt/fabric store

      My Son The Pincushion
Wow. This parenting gig is rough.I've only been a Mom for 12 months now and by far the most agonizing moments have been the dreaded immunization vaccinations.Today was Bear's one year appointment. 4 shots and 1 finger prick. Hepatitis A, Prevnar, IPV, Varivax and an anemia test to be exact. The crying I have learned to withstand (to a point), but it's that look he shoots me when they hold him down for the shots that rips every single ventricle of my heart out. It's obvious his tearful eyes are asking me "Why are you just standing there and letting them do this to me"?We survived. Of course. And I know this is all for the greater good. But these pincushion trips are just awful SUCK.Click here to subscribe to the What Works For Us feed.

      Nonna’s Pincushion
Hi Sewing Friends, This is my grandmother’s pincushion and I inherited it Being the only grandaughter and knowing that my mother is not into sewing or fiber crafts I was the only hereditary in line. I believe it is at least 60 years old and is made of carved wood. Originally the pouch that holds the needles was filled with cornmeal  . I replaced it with a muslin fabric filled with PolyCraft batting. You can tell I’m attached to it since I’m dedicating a post to it and in fact I’m planning to use it as my sewing blog logo. How fun marrying the old with the new! Talk to you really soon, Anna

      Hakea laurina: Another Pincushion Native
Autumn is a beautiful season in the Australian native bush because so many plants are busting out in bloom with incredible shapes and textures. Hakea laurina is one of those plants and considering that it has to compete with all the acacia, eucalypts, banksias and grevilleas it needs to be darned impressive to even get noticed. Fortunately, this hakea is stunning for as soon as it begins to flower it instantly catches your attention. It's a great Australian native to plant in your garden growing to approximately 3-5m with little fuss and no maintenance required. In fact, I've seen hakea laurina growing in the middle of some people's lawns engulfed with kikuyu and still flowering its head off. Many gardeners mistake hakea laurina for hakea petiolaris as they have very similar flowers. But, the way to distinguish them is via their leaves - H. laurina are elongated and thin whilst H. petiolaris are round and wide. Regardless, if you ended up with either in your garden you ought to b

Pincushion Mannequins - All Dressed Up
I was falling into a bit of slump so I decided to change from what I was working on and turn my attention to the pincushion mannequins I showed you a picture of not to long ago. I've been wanting to do something with them and decided to do it and get it off my mind and just simply dive in and see what happens. So, just to refresh, the original pincushions is on the left..... This is the next

      Pincushion Mannequins
I found these great pincushion mannequins last week. I have all kinds of ideas in my head of ways to dress them up, so to speak. One will be mine, but the other two will be for sale once I figure out how to pretty them up. I have something similar given to me by a good friend, but it's designed to hang jewelery on. Nothing says these couldn't become something similar. Stay tuned and hopefully it

      Flower Pincushion
Are you like me and every time you sit down you find another pin? (and I don't mean that you notice it catch the light from the corner of your eye!) A delightful pincushion design with full instructions has been posted at Abyquilt. The pincushion is in the shape of a five petalled flower and can be made using any design of fabric that you like. It will certainly hold a lot of pins and I have

Evidently the Word of the Day Is "Pincushion"
I told you a couple of days ago that my best coping strategy for a case of the blues was to create something with my hands.  When I found some fantastic pink and brown tweed at the fabric store for ONE DOLLAR A YARD (oh, my heart), I bought two yards and knew I had to do something with it.  Inspired by many of the adorable pincushions I've seen sprouting up at craft blogs all over the place, I decided to make one or two.  Or a hundred.  Because once I got started making these little dealihoos, I have been unable to stop.  They're so cute, easy, and I've already finished nine of them.  But I have another 15 cut out, ready to sew.  Yes, FIFTEEN.  And that's just from the tweed.  After this batch, I plan to try some with a more whimsical fabric. Which means that everyone in my life who has ever even looked sideways at a sewing machine will be getting a pincushion for their next three birthdays.  Either that, or I'm opening a pincus
