I took that picture from inside my car while I was waiting for the light to turn green. It’s a shot of Katipunan Ave. without the usual traffic. The man walking on the island (you can only see his back) was selling Philippine flags in different sizes. I don’t know if it’s the fact that [...]

The Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc., organizers of the Binibining Pilipinas Universe beauty pageant, is standing by the decision of its judges in the recently concluded competition. The chosen winner in the Binibining Pilipinas-World category, Janina San Miguel, has drawn intense criticism from viewers and internet users, many of whom speculated that "politics" may have been involved in her choice. San Miguel had displayed a poor command of the English language during the question and answer portion and as a result, was compared to the malapropism-prone Melanie Marquez, 1979 Miss International winner-turned-actress and book author.Marquez, who unleashes her own unique brand of English with devil-may-care aplomb, had even compiled her most quotable quotes in the volume "Don't Judge Me, I

The embattled Team Pilipinas was able to come back against China on the second day of competition at the FIBA Asian Championship. Led by the fearless Jimmy Alapag, Chot Reyes’ charges braved double-figure leads as late as the third quarter to come back 79-74. Alapag led all Pinoys with 25 points. Kelly Williams, Kerby Raymundo and Mark Caguioa chipped in heavily in offense and hustle in the fourth quarter to launch an inspiring assault at the lead following last night’s demoralizing loss to the Islamic Republic of Iran. With the win against China, the hope of playing in the Olympics remains alive.
China didn’t send its best team. Since they’re the hosts for the 2008 Summer Games, they will have an automatic slot in the twelve team field. Just the same, China has always done well in this tournament so much is still expected out of their Team B. The team hasn’t fared well though. China also dropped its first game against Jordan yesterday.

Team Pilipinas won over the Athletes In Action USA team 67-72 courtesy of the inspired ball game by point guard Jimmy Alapag (178-G-77, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) (19pts), center Mick Pinisi (11pts), and swing man Gabe Norwood (196-G/F-85) (7pts). The game was close all through out as none of the two teams was able to lead by more than 10 points. AIA dominated the boards and steals department, but was not a threat at all in the perimeter area, which made the RP perimeter defense look good. Don Don Hontiveros and Mark Caguioa (188-G-79, college: Glendale CC (AZ)) also stepped up for the RP team's cause.Tyler Wilkerson (203-F), Zack Gibson (208-C, college: Rutgers), and Todd Hendley (206-F-84) top scored for AIA with 10/10/11 pts. respectively.Ren Ren Ritualo did not see action. Bb. Pilipinas 2007 Candidates
The heat is on to search for the next Filipina beauty queens in Binibining Pilipinas 2007. Many pageant experts are saying that this year's batch is far better than last year and i think it's true. I just hope that behind those pretty faces are knock-out personalities and wit, a package that can best represent our country in Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.

Kirby Ann Basken: Mutya ng Pilipinas 2006, Now Miss Norway 2007
Last year's Mutya ng Pilipinas winner, Kirby Ann Basken, represented our country in the 2006 Miss Intercontinental and placed in the top 12 semi-finals. Now, she tops the Froken Norge or the Miss Norway contest besting 23 other contestants and will represent Norway in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant. When she was still in the Philippines, she worked as a model and appeared on various tv commercials (like Bingo, Johnson's Baby Cologne and KFC) and tv shows (like ABC 5's Teka Muna with Joey de Leon). Right now, she's taking a qualifying year so that she could enter university and major in Psychology and the Social Sciences. Her dream is to work with children and teenagers with psycho-sociological adjustment problems. During her spare time, she likes to write. She's written several articles for the website Youth for Youth and for the radio station P4's Guru. She's also hosted a radio program "Tinig Pinoy"
Philippine representative Anna Theresa Licaros bagged the Miss Photogenic special award in the recent Miss Universe 2007 beauty pageant held today at the National Auditorium in Mexico City.
