Redneck Towing Speed Boat on top of Pickup Truck
This looks like some sort of an accident. Like the boat came flying up out of the water and landed on top of the pickup truck. How they got it up there and how it’s not crushing the pickup truck is beyond me. Woulnd’t it be easier to just tow it BEHIND [...]

Pickup truck, SUV sales run out of gas
A month of gasoline prices near $4 a gallon was enough to sour Americans’ long love affair with trucks and sport utility vehicles, pushing them back into sedans — and driving Detroit’s automakers into deeper trouble. U.S. sales results released Tuesday showed cars outselling gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs by almost 200,000 in May — the biggest [...]

      Hyundai/Kia scraps pickup truck plan
Hyundai Motor Co. says it has shelved a plan to build a pickup in the United States, a further sign the market is falling out for trucks amid higher gasoline prices. "Because of high oil prices, the light-truck market is declining significantly, so now is not the right time to produce a pickup truck," Kim Dong-Ji, Hyundai's chief executive, told reporters in Seoul Thursday. Hyundai had planned

GM to lay off 3,550 at 4 pickup truck and SUV factories
GM to lay off 3,550 at 4 pickup truck and SUV factories. After Motorola's announcement to stop giving bonuses to its employees, GM followed. Due to high gasoline prices and an economic downturn, the world's largest automaker announced Monday that it plans to cut one shift each at pickup truck and large sport utility vehicle plants in Flint and Pontiac, Mich.; Janesville, Wis.; and Oshawa, Ontario, resulting in about 3,550 layoffs. GM said it will make about 88,000 fewer pickups and 50,000 fewer big SUVs this calendar year because of the cuts. The layoffs represent just over 4 percent of GM's hourly manufacturing work force of about 80,000 in North America. Actually, the announcement came after stock markets closed. GM shares rose 56 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $21.94 Monday, then los

      Ford Peterbilt Pickup Truck Conversion
Some guys just aren’t satisfied with what you find in the showroom. Take Lynn Mullinax, for instance. Lynn likes big pickup trucks, but anyone with money can buy an International CXT, Lynn had his mind set on a Peterbilt. Of course, small problem, Peterbilt doesn’t make a pickup, so Lynn started thinking about what he would need. Let’s see, frame, engine, cab, tools, time, skill, … no problem, he had what he needed. So out he goes into the garage and 3 1/2 years later comes back out with this beauty. Actually, this was Lynn’s second truck, he built a Kenworth before but was foolish enough to put a price on it when someone asked if he would sell it. Sure enough, the guy bought it and he had the money but no truck. So, back out to the garage. He says this one isn’t for sale.

      TTAC Photochop: VW Pickup Truck
Volkswagen has been toying with the pick up segment ever since the 2000 Advanced Activity Concept (AAC). That prototype which blended a luxurious premium interior with the versatility of a truck (don't ask why) was more of a prelude for the Touareg than a serious design exercise for a production pick up. Almost a decade later VW's finally going for it and will offer a competitor for the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, et al. And, as much as we can see from spy photographs so far, it will loose the chrome, Alcantara and the rest of the features that don't look very good with mud on them. Black plastic fender flares, bumpers and mirror casings will provide the requisite heavy-duty attitude and will also keep down stress on the wallet. It's expected to be available as a single
