Here is a quick rundown of the most common mistakes people (like me) make that mess up a good photo or prevent us from taking a good photo. It is a big leap for me to start talking about taking photos, since it is so much more subjective than writing Photoshop Tutorials. I am on a journey and often times I look at older pictures on this site and wonder why I even took the photo (at least I have

Quite often when you read about new inkjet papers, most of the discussion is centered around characteristics such as DMax, gamut, archivalness, optical brighteners, feel, weight, durability, etc, etc. It is disappointing that you don’t read a lot about sustainability. Preventing Deterioration:Keep photographic materials at proper environmental conditions. Relative humidity is the single most important factor in preserving most photographic materials. Relative humidity levels above 60% will accelerate deterioration. Low and fluctuating humidity may also damage them. Conditions of around 68° F and 30-40% relative humidity are appropriate and easiest to maintain in enclosed areas, such as an interior closet or an air-conditioned room -- not in an attic or basement. High temperatures and high relative humidity levels will accelerate deterioration.Temperature, not relative humidity, is the controlling factor in the stability of contemporary color photographs. Storage at low temperatures (40°F or below) is recommended. Appropriate enclosures for cold storag

My last final just finished at 6:30pm. I should know by 9PM all my grades. I pretty much know what to expect because I have seen all my grades in advance. It feels so good to have them all done.
Studying for my finals and any tests in general is not a very time consuming process. If I could identify my ability to retain and process information; I have a photographic memory. After reading each chapter for any subject, I gain an understanding of the topic and can repeat and explain what I have learned to a friend or classmate. I am often criticized or questioned whether I have a significant comprehension on the topic because on essay tests my responses are almost directly word for word from the text.
My mom is someone who I can relate with most of my friends when it comes to studying. She has to spend extra time making flash cards, reading the chapters, and studying for exams. Everyone’s learns differently and people just have to accept that. The way any individual learns should ne
High Definition Photographic Displays
One of the vexxing issues that some photographers deal with is the lack of parity, when it comes to trying to convey the sense, or the experience of what they have captured and/or created, to their audience. Granted, an 8x10 print is nice, using one of the readily available consumer photo printers, like the Canon Pixma photo printers or perhaps, one of the Epson Stylus photo printers. For those who can afford a little bit more, an 10x13 or 13x19 print is better. Even more so, a 17x24 would be awesome, but one of those wall dwarfing prints from a 72" wide format printer, would be staggering... but then again, so would the price!
What if you didn't want to go the paper route? Say... you wanted to show off your creative works at home or in a studio for a potential client, but you still wanted to convey that sense of space and presence? Time for some HDMI enabled high definition televisions and displays!

The Royal Photographic Society gathered the best images in order to create it’s first book, a ‘coffee table’ book presenting the work of The Society and its members. There are a lot of people interested in photography and I think that this is the case because some photographs are really pleasurable to look at. Most people have photo albums where they collect their favorite pictures to look at whenever they will have some spare time or to show to their friends. Wouldn’t it be great to have your favorite pictures enlarged and hanged on the wall? If you like the idea of this you might be interested in a photographic website which offers personalised wall art from your photos. They can create wall art from your photos on different papers such as canvas, photographic paper or textured art paper. It might not be an easy decision which paper to choose, but if I had a choice I would probably choose photographic paper.I would choose photographic paper, because it is supposed to provide the most accurate and direct reproduction of an image. Additionally it is often favored by professional photographers. As it is bonded to optically clear acrylic, an intere
By using A Photographic Atlas for the Microbiology Laboratory by Michael J. Leboffe and Burton E. Pierce you can look up the microorganism you are viewing under the scope and compare what you see to the image the book displays. This is very helpful in this respect. This atlas would be an excellent purchase for anyone interested in microbiology or for those students taking an introductory microbiology course (especially clinical/medical microbiology). The authors have included many common tests and stains performed in the laboratory, and contrary to what a previous reviewer has posted, this atlas contains many photographs that would be beneficial to those students having difficulty with bacterial identification in the lab. The authors have provided concise but relavant background information for all topics covered. The pictures are easy to understand and really gives you a great visual for making learning more interesting. This is an excellent book for the Micro student. It helps to see w
Two of my interests are word etymologies and photography. So I thought it would be fun to explore the origin of some of the more common photographic terms.Photography: Comes from two Greek words that mean to write (graphos) with light (photos).Lens: The shape of a lens and a lentil are quite similar. In fact the word lens comes from the Latin word lenticula, which means lentil.Aperture: The aperture is the hole that allows light into the camera and the Latin word for an opening is apertura.Camera: We could think of a camera as a type of chamber and as it happens these two words have the same etymologies, originating from the Latin word camera which means a arched room.Focus: This word originally meant fireplace or hearth in Latin. The f in photographic words such as f-number and f-stop mea
A photographic lens (also known as objective lens or photographic objective) is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.
While in principle a simple convex lens will suffice, in practice a compound lens made up of a number of optical lens elements is required to correct (as much as possible) the many optical aberrations that arise. Some aberrations will be present in any lens system. It is the job of the lens designer to balance these out and produce a design that is suitable for photographic use and possibly mass production.
There is no difference in principle between a lens used for a camera, a telescope, a microscope, or other apparatus, but the detailed design and construction are different. A lens may be permanently fixed to a camera, or it may be interchangeable with lenses of different focal lengths, a

Where does your inspiration come from? For me, a trip to the local Barnes and Noble News Stand is more than enough to fire me up about photography! With all the great US and European Photography Magazines to peruse, I am reminded that Edwin Morgan is not the only Photographer in the world ( Shocking, I Know! ) and that new ideas are not in short supply. There are more than enough people, places and things to point my camera at and it's up to me to find the inspiration and motivation to make that next great image! If Bjorn in Finland can make an entire portfolio out of artfully Blurred Holga Close-ups of his pet chicken, well then, I guess I should be able to come up with something too. And with High Speed Internet connections in most of our homes, a Photographer / Artist doesn't even have to leave their home to get a fix of Inspirational Imagery. There are more than enough Photo Blogs, Photographers Websites and Online Magazines to fill those empty hours when you're not saving the p
Portable Light BoxSide ViewLike many other independent artisans, I need professional photographs so that I can share my work with you on my blog, website, Etsy and other retail venues. What happens when one can't afford to hire a professional photographer? If you're like me, you scour the Internet for information - free information! A few years ago, I did invest in a seamless graduated photographic background paper that is pretty standard when photographing ceramic work. This method is my first choice when I need to do a large photoshoot, however, it has its drawbacks. I do not have special lights or even a designated space for photographing work in my studio or home. I photograph work outside - but have to wait for an overcast day to do have a photoshoot to avoid having blue undertones to my photographs.Last fall, after searching the Internet for the best way to photograph small objects indoors or out, I found Strobist - a fantastic photographic how to blog that gave step by s

Did you know that Australia has 16 World Heritage sites located across the length and breadth of our vast continent and even offshore? Some are in such remote locations few people have had the opportunity to visit.
Australia has long recognised the importance of preserving its rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage and was one of the first signatories to the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage. Since then, 182 countries have ratified the treaty. Sites nominated for World Heritage listing are inscribed on the list only after they have been carefully assessed as representing the best examples of the world’s cultural and natural heritage.
Each of Australia’s World Heritage properties is outstanding in its own right and collectively they present an amazing diversity of places and values. Now, gain an insight into some of the most outstanding places on earth through a stunning commemorative

A very interesting article concerning the shelf-life of digital prints posted yesterday on nytimes.com. The digital process is still in it’s infancy in many ways, and the printing of photographs with inkjet printers using dyes or pigments has a long way to go. Anyone printing digitally should have a look at this article.

Coming out in April is a compilation of photographs David Bailey, one of England's most famous photographers, and arguably one of the worlds most famous commercial photographers shot of Jean Shrimpton. The photos were shot in January of 1962 in New York City by David who was at the time her lover (their love affair would span four years). NY JS DB 62, due out in late April was Bailey's first time in New York and at the time he was just starting his career as a successful photographer at British Vogue. The idea behind the shoot was 'au natural', Bailey didn't want this to be a big 'to do', more of a 'girl on the street' take on things. It was a bitterly cold day and Shrimpton is photographed throughout carrying a teddy bear. Organically shot around NYC in freezing weather, she did her own hair and styling to further add to the authenticity. The first shot is a rather iconic one, I find it especially inspiring.Speaking about her now, Bailey refers to Joan Shrimpton as a natural

A lot of people are skeptical about this story on the clothing store in Malawi called "Niggers" so I dug up another photo.
I'm going to look into this further, and hopefully soon I'll speak to some folks in Malawi who can break down the whole racial situation there and what they make of us American Blacks. Many Africans, from what I understand, refer to us as Niggers on a regular basis.

I have very bad memory. It has been called a kind of disassociative amnesia. A condition mainly associated with a traumatic incident as a child. I am not sure what exactly triggered it for me but I think it comes from my inability to relate to my existence. So the memories of my first 20 years or so are secondary and usually forgotten. Kind of like watching a movie and not being able to remember any of it an hour later. Most of my childhood memories are from family members retelling old stories with me asking, "Where was I?"It is something that I have been working on since I first learned of it when I was about 25, and I have found that photos are a great way for me to attach personal memories to events. As you can see though, there is a huge gap of about 15 years with absolutely no photos. So my memories from these years are virtually non-existent.I have disappointed many friends with my inability to remember the smallest occasions that we shared and it is something that I have come t
