Alright, after dissecting the horrid array of Philly sports attire, we can move on to the second installment, which is obviously, the 10 best uniforms in Philly sports history. Some of these were easy, some were tough, but I'm sure there will be opinions about all. Here we go...
OK - well, our blog has been a little too "newsy" recently for my taste, so I'm starting a new Best/Worst of Philly segment that should generate some good discussion.
My idea for the first segment, uniforms, came immediately after Elton Brand's press conference, when instead of the current Sixers jersey, he raised an updated version of the old red, white and blue version. I freaked out. I couldn'

This is old news already, but I would like to welcome Elton Brand to Philadelphia. I was a little worried about Brand coming back from the Achilles injury, but the Sixers obviously were not.

I've fallen off the sports planet over the last week due to Guitar Hero III. I made the mistake of allowing my wife to borrow the game from my sister-in-law's kids. Big mistake. I'm averaging nine hours of work, two hours of commuting, 10 hours of Guitar Hero, and three hours of sleep this week. That stupid game is so ridiculously addictive...and the thing is, I'm not even sure I like it. I just h
Here is what happens during a Phillies tailgate against the Mets when some alcohol, a Jose Reyes Bobblehead and a 9 iron come into play… (There is an F-bomb thrown in at the end so if your speakers are up and you are at work, you have been warned.)
Well, that was a quick moment of relevance for the LA Clippers. A week after Baron Davis opted out of the final year of his contract and signed a 5 year $65 million contract with Los Angeles, Brand has walked away from his verbal agreement with the Clips and, according to the LA Times, [...]
Seattle Times Mariners beat writer Geoff Baker blogs that starting pitcher Erik Bedard went on the air with a Philadelphia ESPN radio affiliate as trade rumors swirl around his possible dealing to the Phillies. Not sure how great an interview it was since Bedard has a penchant for one word answers to questions, but apparently he may be warming to the idea of heading out of Seattle. If Philly is in
I was all prepared to write a post about whether or not the Phillies got snubbed with the all-star selections this season until I sat down, turned on my television and was reminded that Adam Eaton still exists (2.2 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO in an important game) and [...]
The Baron Davis deal to the L.A. Clippers is basically done. Davis will reportedly get 5 years worth $65 million. Corey Maggette has been talked up by many teams, including Utah, Boston, and San Antonio. The bottom line is he wants to win now. But he is going to want to play way more than what the Celtics can offer him, so that's pretty much out. The Spurs look to have the upper hand in those

The last event I attended while I was in Philadelphia was the Odunde Festival, one of the largest community- based street festivals held in the country. Odunde is a celebration, which comes from the Yoruba tradition, which celebrates the coming of the New Year. It was hot, both temperature wise and culturally. I recognized several traditional dances, which were celebratory and reflective.

- Jamie Moyer, 45, has not completely shut the door on returning to pitch next year, and considering he hasn't counted on arm strength for awhile, it is certainly a possibility. If Moyer does return, and gets 15 more wins before he retires, he will be just the 8th Left-Handed pitcher ever to finish h

ESPN.com just compiled a list of six of the greatest matchups involving Pittsburgh and Philadelphia spanning all sports, and I can honestly say that I vividly remember five of them, actually attending one of them. The only one I can't recall was played in 1978, and unfortunately, I have no memory of any Pirate games that season since I happened to be one year old at the time. And I guess the two cities didn't have any other memorable matchups before '78, because that's as far back as this list goes. What do you think? What gets your vote as the greatest Pittsburgh-Philly game of all time in any sport? Would it happen to involve this man? And one last question for the old timers out there: what memorable pre-'78 games are young whippersnappers such as myself unaware of? Pittsburgh vs. Phi
Donovan McNabb. Allen Iverson. Eric Lindros. Ryan Howard. Great athletes all, but they never delivered a championship to the city of Philadelphia. And they're not alone. Unbeknownst to me, there's a website that's been documenting the city's athletic failures, and it's been around since 2005. So if you've been living under the same rock I dwell under, let me cordially introduce you to Phillysucks.com. Their intro pretty much sums it up: Welcome to PhillySucks.com! This site is dedicated to the inability of a Philadelphia sports team to win ONE championship in over 24 years. At this website, we only care about the four major sports teams in the city. I don't care that the Wings, Phantoms, Kixx, Barrage or any other team won some sort of championship. In the world of sports, only the four ma
A video showing at least 15 Philadelphia police officers viciously kicking, punching and beating three Black men has residents in an uproar. In the video, featured below, officers are caught hitting the suspects with blackjacks after pulling them from their car late Monday. The three men were under suspicion for a murder Sunday night involving 20-year-old man. Tensions had already been high in Philly following the fatal shooting of Police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski on Saturday, the third city officer slain on duty in two years. One man was fatally shot by police after the shooting, another was arrested Sunday and a third remains at large. John J. McNesby of the Fraternal Order of Police urged that “There’s always two sides to every video.” Some of the officers seen in
Reports say police were investigating a triple shooting. But the video, shot by WTXF, Fox 29 in Philadelphia, shows an incredible amount of force being used by a dozen cops on the suspects. Please take a few moments to watch the video.Keep in mind just a few days earlier, the Philadelphia Police Department lost one of its own in a horrific shooting. It's not immediately clear why the cops continued to pummel the suspects. It's also not clear whether the police realized a television chopper was overhead filming the scene. An expert retired police officer, Lou Palumbo of the NYPD, said on CNN today there must be a full investigation "to determine what drove this," before judgment is made. He also said there are clearly training issues that need to be addressed, as police officers are never tra

A most awful crime has taken place in Philadelphia's Port Richmond neighborhood, committed by bank robbers wearing niqabs (H/T: Michelle Malkin):
The mastermind of the Port Richmond bank robbery was Howard Cain, who was fatally shot by police Saturday while fleeing in a minivan minutes after he fired a once-banned high-powered Chinese assault rifle, killing Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, police say.
Have you seen this man? His name is Eric Floyd, and he's suspected of killing a Philadelphia police officer. Reports say he hopped off a train at Newark Airport, and police are now searching for him in Weequahic Park in Newark. Reports say he's armed and extremely dangerous. If you see him, contact Newark police immediately at 973-733-6000 or the Philadelphia police homicide squad at 215-686-3334. Police warn residents not to attempt to approach the suspect.

Who would have thought after being down 15-points on the road, playing against a championship-caliber team, getting 4-16 shooting by our best player and having a roster filled with playoff newbies, the 76ers would be up 1-0 in their first round playoff series against the Detroit Pistons? Well, surprise, surprise, that's the unsettling reality everyone in Detroit must face, most importantly Flip Saunders and his "experienced" Piston players.
In the first quarter the Sixers came out with tons of energy and attacked. After that initial burst it became clear Detroit was the more experienced team. They executed well on offense and looked under control at all times. What was also clear was that the Sixers had no plans of backing down.

"With your performance tonight -- your focus on issues that were at best trivial wastes of valuable airtime and at worst restatements of right-wing falsehoods, punctuated by inane "issue" questions that in no way resembled the real world concerns of American voters -- you disgraced my profession of journalism, and, by association, me and a lot of hard-working colleagues who do still try to ferret out the truth, rather than worry about who can give us the best deal on our capital gains taxes. But it's even worse than that. By so badly botching arguably the most critical debate of such an important election, in a time of both war and economic misery, you disgraced the American voters, and in fact even disgraced democracy itself."read more | digg story

Beautiful: A Friday off, just to enjoy one's own town. Lunch at Osteria and an afternoon at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Beautiful: The sun streaming in through the windows at Osteria. And the elevation of the least interesting sounding dish on a menu, in this case "marinated vegetable antipasto," to an art form, a symphony of complementary and contrasting flavors. The porchetta tonnato was subtle in comparison yet equally lovely.Beautiful ugly: I took it, so perhaps I'm biased, but I'm pretty happy with the composition in this photo of our lunch wine. On the down side, Tomasso Bussola's 2005 Valpolicella Classico did nothing to change my general displeasure with Valpo of late. Adequate as a pizza wine, I suppose, but otherwise flat, short and uninteresting, maybe even a tad heat-

That’s right. New Orleans let one slip from their grasp as they lost to Philadelphia 38-23. Luck just was not on their side today. It started with Donovan McNabb fumbling while running on the Saints 20 yard line. The ball rolled into the end zone with about three saints around it but after a few bobbles the ball ended up in the hands of Kevin Curtis for an Eagles touchdown.Â
Even though the Saints would answer, they had awful luck throughout the day. On the same McNabb running play, star cornerback Mike McKenzie was hurt and did not return. A few plays later Marques Colston left the game. Aaron Stecker would also leave in the first half, but he did return in the second half. Even with all the injuries, the first half proved to high scoring for both teams with Philly leading 24-17. On the opening drive of the third quarter, the Saints had a chance to tie the game.Â
Drew Brees threw a pass to David Patton who the officials marked as down on the one foot

Apparently the folks at Philadelphia’s SnackBar don’t believe in answering the phone, accepting on-line reservations or even utilizing an answering machine. After three days of calling – several weeks ago – in an effort to attain a reservation for this past Monday’s dinner with guest chef Shola Olunloyo, I finally gave up. When one of my fellow Philly food bloggers, HungryChic at Lavender Sky, wrote the other day to see if I’d be going, I thought I’d give it one last try – again, no answer, no messaging capability. Finally, after about 20 attempts, someone answered the phone. No surprise, the event was booked. If you missed it too, you can read about it after the fact on eGullet or at my chum PhilaDining’s blog.If you’re planning ahead rather than ruing missed opportunities, there are a couple of other savory events in the pipeline. If there’s a theme involved, it would seem to be Monday, a notoriously off night for Philly restaurants, many of which simply c

I'm in Philly for a couple of days for a friends wedding. Him and his bride to be wanted me to sing You and Me for their first dance. I'll be here until Saturday, and then I fly to Vegas to meet the boys for a show. ( maybe I can win some of the money back that I lost from Josh ,a.k.a the dealer from hell in NY) It's nice to take a couple of days off and just hang out for a bit. The last show we played was New York at a place called the China Club. It was a great night, and the following day I went to see the Broadway show Wicked . It was entertaining, but not nearly as entertaining as the guy in front of me tripping on acid. I got to go now and try on my "wedding singer" costume. See ya in a few days. Oh I just realized I'm right across the street from the hotel that I wrote "Midnight in Philly", This hotel is much nicer! Sorry, I have A.D.D. Have a good one,Jason*§ource: Lifehouse's myspace*
Thousands of people gathered outside of Philadelphia's City Hall on Monday in celebration of the Phillies actually making the playoffs. The mayor of the city was there, as well as the Phillies. The fans were amazed, in disbelief, and thankful, while at the same time proving how embarrassing it actually is to be a Philadelphia sports fan. In all honesty, it was truly an impressive pep rally. But seriously, all this for just making the playoffs? The fans, the team, and the government were all celebrating as if they had already won the World Series. However, there was no celebrating last night! For a couple of days now, and even Wednesday on the golf course for a few hours, all I've been hearing from Phillie's fans is about how "they are going to crush the Colorado Rockies." Well, "fans," why isn't anyone speaking now? It's no secret that the city is bias towards their local sports sphere, but c'mon! Say something! On second thought, I kinda like the silence. Anyway, the Phillies had
