The Dr. Phillips Community Park recently opened to rave reviews at least from the looks of this guy. The new park is located adjacent to Sand Lake Elementary on Buena Vista Woods Dr. just past the Diamond Cove and Emerald Forest subdivisions. There’s also a pathway from Darlene Rd. so residents from this area can get to the park with just a short walk.
There’s so many activities here alongside views of Big Sand Lake. The water park seems to be a big hit, but there’s also a lighted baseball field, 2 lighted soccer fields, 2 sand volleyball courts, basketball court, an amphitheater, playground, dog park, picnic areas, playground, and walking trails along the lake.
It’s just a great new place and another reason why SW Orlando is such a good place to call home.
So I was dug out of bed earlier than usual on a Saturday morning by my little sister who wanted a screaming partner while watching Miss World 2007. As it turns out I enjoyed the show and I had my beautiful women from all over the world. As expected I had my bets on my two stereotypical favourites: Jamaica and Japan, but as the program went on Poland, Trinidad and China looked as If they stood a chance to win. I don’t remember much about the first Criminal arc, other than Phillips’s art was beautiful and Brubaker had some kind of super-cop-out conclusion, on par with Sleeper: Season Two. So I approached the second Criminal arc with caution–I didn’t read it in floppies, I ignored online press. I basically forgot about it until it was complete (I even forgot what happened to the main character of the first arc, who cameos in this one and confused the hell out of me).
This arc, “Lawless,” really feels like an updated film noir. Not a neo-noir, because it’s a made up term (the “neo” suggests the story is a post-modern response to the genre, which they never are), but a modern one. The main character’s fresh out of the military (one of the contributing factors to film noir being, of course, the displaced WWII vet) and gets in to a bunch of crime-filled trouble. Maybe the first arc suffered from Brubaker establishing the setting of the book, because this one just operates
