Readers could easily have missed double bassist Phillip Serna's great post yesterday on double bass private studio teaching amidst the glut of posts we've put out this week. In this post, Phillip details the steps he went through in establishing himself as a full-time double bass studio teacher in the Chicago suburbs. If one is interested in building up and developing a private teaching studio (for any instrument, not just bass), this would be a great post to check out. Phillip was wildly successful in his goal, at one point teaching around 75 (!) private students. Even if these students had all been half-hour lessons (and many were hour lessons), that would have been bumping up on 40 hours of actual teaching time. Well, after 2 opening shifts, back to my preferred nights. I'll tell ya',I just can't understand how folks get up early like that on a regularbasis. There is this man who always gets to the restaurant before Ieven have a chance to unlock the doors. (rolling my eyes as I typehere!)
