Save Windows XP: File Official petitions with Microsoft to “Keep XP Alive”
If you remember, earlier this year Jan 14th, an online petition drive called “Save Windows XP” was launched, and within weeks after that Jan. 14 launch, more than 100,000 customers worldwide have signed up or here. Microsoft considered those “non-official complaints”, and Steve Ballmer offers hope for Windows XP, saying that Microsoft would consider extending the

RIAA Petitions Judges to Lower Artist Royalties
Aggressively litigious group has claimed to protect musicians in the past. Now believes musicians deserve less for “innovative” music distribution. No, see, the royalties go down, the “recording artists” get angry, the RIAA uses the momentum created by thousands of slightly less wealthy “recording artists” all bitching about how filesharing is taking the Lexus’ straight out of their kid’s mouths, the judges start judging in the RIAA’s favor, and then DER! I mean…BAM! Welcome to the Internet 2.0, now with restrictions. The Chinese will feel fortunate, compared to us. Then, in ten years, they’ll make fun of us like we’re Canada, like we make fun of Canada.

      Prime Minister's Petitions: School Libraries
I have publicly supported three petitions on the Prime Minister's epetitions web site... and none of them have succeeded. That is, all of them have been rejected with a formal response - there is no record on the site of successful petitions, I note. (Can we draw some sort of conclusion from that, do you think?)The last petition - "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to make the provision of professionally staffed libraries within all schools, both secondary and primary, statutory."- received a disappointingly low level of support (1,794 signatures) so it is unsurprising that it failed. However, the level of misleading verbiage in the response is disappointing (I assume that it doesn't actually demonstrate ignorance), and I reproduce the response in full below:The provision of a school library is not a statutory requirement and there are no current plans to alter this situation and change the legislation. It is the Government's policy to put as much money as possible dire

      Blogs for Troop Petitions
Why lookie here at how them troops are standing up to da Defeatocrats! They’ve issued an Appeal to Courage, they sure have. The Appeal for Courage, a petition signed by more than 2,700 U.S. service members since February 2007 asks Congress to fully support the mission and reject calls for retreat. According to the site, 60% of the signatories are serving, or have previously served, in Iraq. Blogs for Bush: The White House Of The Blogosphere: Troops Petition Congress To Stop Calls For Retreat Twenty-seven hundred troops so far. Out of what? 158,000 or so (currently serving). Wow. That is what? A percent? Staggering. Overwhelming. Gosh that Bush sure has a strong base. Note too that only about 60% of the signatories “are serving, or have previously served, in Iraq.” Sheesh! Nothing like making something of nothing.

      Petitions to No.10
In the light of the current news about the Prime Minister sending out a nice letter to all of those who signed the petition against road charging - a letter which explained, presumably, how he valued their views, was impressed by the number of petitioners, BUT that he thought he was right and road charging was pretty likely to go ahead in the fullness of time...I also had a letter from the Prime Minister. Mine was in response to the petition I signed: to do with scrapping the idea if ID cards, and - guess what - he explained how he valued my views, was impressed by the number of petitioners, BUT that thought he was right and ID cards were pretty likely to go ahead in the fullness of time.I am left with the clear idea that the petitions website is nothing more than a means to collect email addresses of those who disagree with the government so that a targetted mailing can attempt to bring them onside (I hope that's the only reason for collecting them!). Is that practice cynical, or wha
