I quite like the Headlines single. If it was a. n. other track on the album, I wouldn't skip it... but as a comeback single it's proving to be doing more harm than any good at all. Selling just over 5,000 copies on downloads this week will give it a chart placing of 20. Not very good for so much time and money spent on the Spices' reunion thus far. Pretty dire really. And the press are going to love the news come Monday. That and the fact that Radio 1 has decided not to playlist the track will mean the tour and subsequent singles will have to be fucking good. Radio 1 got right to the point in their decision to play the track ONCE a day: "Clearly there's a huge number of Spice Girls fans out there - look at the tickets they have sold. But 'Headlines' is very disappointing. The song simply isn't strong enough.. it would have been a B-side in their heyday."David Walliams looks fabulosa, BTW.
Former Haçienda resident DJ Mike Pickering, the icon of the early-90s 'Madchester' acid house movement, and Radio 1 resident Pete Tong celebrated Tony Wilson this week with a two-hour Essential Mix special on UK's BBC Radio 1.Tony Wilson (1950-2007) was a British record label owner, radio presenter, TV show host, nightclub manager, impresario and journalist.
"Mr. Manchester," as the Manchester Evening News dubbed him in its recent report, was the man who put Manchester on the map by bringing Joy Division, Happy Mondays, and New Order to the world. Wilson was the founder and manager of the legendary Manchester nightclub Fac 51 Haçienda (better known as simply The Haçienda) and was also one of the five co-founders of Factory Records.
He died of a heart attack in Manchester's Christie Hospital on Friday, August 10th 2007 aged 57.
In the first part Tong presents the very best of Factory Records with tracks from the likes of New Order, Joy Division, and Happy Mondays. Mike Pick
…pear-shaped, arse over end, tits up…call it what you want.
I have to admit to have been relieved, yet a little smug over the atrocious weather Ireland and the UK have been suffering over the last few months. The summer here has been nothing too spectacular but it’s been a hell of a lot drier and warmer than up north.
Take last weekend for example. We went camping beside the Vierwaldstattersee, the big lake by Lucerne. It was all arranged at the last minute, we jumped on the train Friday evening and had two gloriuos days there. 30°C both days, we spent Saturday hiking nearby and on Sunday we ventured into the lake for a swim and then went to see the sights around the city. The sun was splitting the rocks and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I convinced myself summer had arrived. I had to apply factor 25 suncream, or “the cottage cream” as I call it, to prevent my Irish complexion burning to a crisp or converting into one giant freckle.
Since then
- The New York Times has published an article about new generation of ravers under London Bridge. "The new rave scene is a small, tightly connected movement of artists, D.J.'s, bands and partygoers...

I've seen a lot of great films this year. While slowly working through the best of Woody Allen, I've found time for recent films like "Capote" or "Caché" while still working through classics like Bresson's "The Diary of a Country Priest," a movie all seminarians should be required to view, or Antonioni's "The Passenger," which revisited theaters late in 2005 prior to a DVD release. With so many great films, why would I write about a less exceptional film which came out last year and made $120,620 at the U.S. Box Office? For the following reasons: I've been wanting to see the film since coming across a review last spring, I assume you've not seen (or heard of) it, and the movie works. The movie begins with Frankie Wilde sitting atop the throne of the worldwide club scene as a DJ phenom. The title "It's All Gone Pete Tong" is Cockney rhyming slang for "It's all gone wrong."[The title fits both the plot structure and subject, since Pete Tong is a well-known British DJ. Pete Tong
