Vaccinations are important, even for indoor pets. Some diseases are airborne or can be acquired by contact with fecal matter that might be brought into your house on your street shoes. Diseases that affect pets are present in the environment, and some diseases can spread to humans.Any animal that goes outdoors should be vaccinated annually for rabies. This includes ferrets and bunnies. If you have

Although there are a large number of pet owners in the States, most do not see a reason to have pet insurance; these animals are however, generally considered a part of every family. We don’t hesitate to purchase health insurance for ourselves; if that is the case, our pets should be looked after as well.

Every year 1 in 3 pets become ill or injured. Given that a trip to the vet can cost you hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars, it is not surprising that tens of thousands of cats and dogs in this country alone must be put down because owners cannot afford the [...]
I am an animal lover and have been since I was a child. Today I own a couple of dogs as well as four cats. As other pet owners would know you take on a huge responsibility when you decide that you want to own a domestic animal. Not only do you have to feed them good nutritious food you also need to provide them with regular exercise so that you can ensure that they remain healthy and free of ailments.I am quite astonished that many pet owners ignore the opportunity to buy pet health insurance for cats. Statistics show that people who own dogs as well as cats are more inclined to insure their dog rather than their cat. I am not sure as to why they decide this, perhaps it is because they have the belief that because dogs are more active they are more likely to get injuries requiring veterina
What is PZI?PZI (Protamine Zinc Insulin) is insulin combined with zinc and protamine (a protein extracted from salmon testes), which slow the release of the insulin into bodily tissue. Historically, the insulin component of PZI, as well as all other insulin produced for human medical use, was derived from animals, either cows or pigs. Animal-derived insulin is a by-product of slaughtering food animals. The pancreas is ground and transformed into a crystalline powder, which is sold to insulin manufacturers. No animals from countries where BSE (mad-cow disease) exists may be used. Mass-produced, genetically engineered human insulin has generally replaced animal-derived insulin in use by human diabetics. In the mid-90's in the US, beef-source insulin (including PZI formulations) were phase
Home Blood Glucose Testing of the Diabetic CatIf you have a diabetic cat, consider doing home blood glucose testing. After a few tests, the vast majority of cats won't mind this at all. Advantages of home testing include less stress to your cat, considerably decreased costs and time of monitoring compared to vet visits, closer control of your cat's blood glucose level by more frequent monitoring, and possible avoidance of deadly hypoglycemic episodes. This technique and the results should be discussed with your vet before any changes in the amount of insulin you give your cat.NOTE: There is some information on working with blood glucose (BG) curves in the "Diabetes for Beginners" section of this web site.Links to glucometer testing videos and slide shows: Veterinary Partner Punkin's Movie
Your pet's health issues are one of the most important things you need to know about your furry, feathered, or scaled animal friends. A healthy pet is a happy pet, and you should be able to recognize some of the signs of trouble brewing in the health of your pet. It is for the sake of your pet, as well as for the sake of your family and any other animals that live in your household. If you have a pet you must be aware of everything about that animal. Everything. If your pet lives, like most pets, inside our houses and closely around us and our children (and other pets as well) poor health trouble for one pet could spell trouble for the entire household. Take, for instance, the problem of fleas. If one of your nonhuman family members has fleas it becomes a plague upon the household. It is on
Former fighting dogs get a second chance - Pet health- msnbc.com I saw this today on msnbc.com - it made me cry, partly because I'm happy that some of these dogs got a second chance at a happy life, and partly because the whole damn thing is so sad. We need to push for tougher anti cruelty laws and do whatever we can to eradicate the heinous practice of dog and cock fighting. I have very strong opinions on this, but for today let's focus on the good news here - these dogs CAN learn to be pets, and people are prepared to take them in. There is some good in the world! Not only doesthis create a threat to the very existence of your four-leggedfriend, but the veterinary care for emergency medical treatmentis out of this world. To help ease the burden of emergency careon your pocketbook, here are a few reasons why your dog shouldsee the veterinarian today. They Are Behind on Their Vaccinations If your pet is behind on their vaccinations, it may not seemlike a big deal to you unless you have lost a pet from one ofthe illnesses that are normally vaccinated against. Parvo is oneof the most devastating illnesses that a dog can get, and thesymptoms associating them can be painful for your pet and foryou to watch
Health insurance for pets is gaining in popularity, and with good reason. These days pet owners have more options in dealing our pets’ medical issues than in the past. Tests, procedures, and treatments that used to be available only for people have worked their way into the pet world. And, since there are more of us who don’t have 2-legged kids, many of us think of our pets as family members (not just pets). As a result, we’re willing to do what we can to keep our family members healthy. So, health insurance for our pets seems to be a smart way to head off some of those medical bills.
The next time you’re waiting for your burrito at Chipotle, deciding whether you’re in the mood for corn salsa or tomatillo, consider for a moment the breadth and flexibility of your health insurance. OK, too boring? Well, then at least consider that if you’re self-employed - like many young freelancers and contract workers in the city - you may have less health insuranc

We have so many four legged family members here, and the thing is, we need health insurance for them. One that is affordable for us, yet reliable for any emergency needs; in case one of them gets into trouble. Well, just like when the mama cat was limping. We thought she broke her leg, so we were frantic about where to get some help and how much it would cost us to have her treated. Thankfully though, she was able to walk normally after a while, and we didn't have to take her to a Veterinarian after all. It saved us a lot of money, because usually we have to pay top dollar. It's hard not having any help. However, I just found this pet health insurance that seems like the one that fits our insurance needs. It sounds good eoungh for us to look into getting it
