The Pentagon is expected to shutter a controversial intelligence office that has drawn fire from lawmakers and civil liberties groups who charge that it was part of an effort by the Defense Department to expand into domestic spying. The move, government officials say, is part of a broad effort under Defense Secretary Robert Gates to review, overhaul and, in some cases, dismantle an intelligence architecture built by his predecessor, Donald Rumsfeld. The intelligence unit, called the Counterintelligence Field Activity office, was created by Rumsfeld after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as part of an effort to counter the operations of foreign intelligence services and terror groups inside the United States and abroad. ~ read on... ~

While great nations fretted over coal, oil and global warming, one of the smallest at the U.N. climate conference was looking toward the heavens for its energy. The annual meeting's corridors can be a sounding board for unlikely ''solutions'' to climate change - from filling the skies with soot to block the sun, to cultivating oceans of seaweed to absorb the atmosphere's heat-trapping carbon dioxide. Unlike other ideas, however, one this year had an influential backer, the Pentagon, which is investigating whether space-based solar power - beaming energy down from satellites - will provide ''affordable, clean, safe, reliable, sustainable and expandable energy for mankind.'' Tommy Remengesau Jr. is interested, too. ''We'd like to look at it,'' said the president of the tiny western Pacific nation of Palau. The drums of war are beating a little louder in the Middle East today after the Pentagon released intelligence they gathered from a recent raid on insurgents in Baghdad that allegedly contained airtight proof that Oil Ocean Zone has been providing financing, training, and weapons for insurgent groups for at least the past year.

THE Pentagon has drawn up plans for massive airstrikes against 1,200 targets in Iran, designed to annihilate the Iranians’ military capability in three days, according to a national security expert.Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, said last week that US military planners were not preparing for “pinprick strikes” against Iran’s nuclear facilities. “They’re about taking out the entire Iranian military,” he said.Debat was speaking at a meeting organised by The National Interest, a conservative foreign policy journal. He told The Sunday Times that the US military had concluded: “Whether you go for pinprick strikes or all-out military action, the reaction from the Iranians will be the same.” It was, he added, a “very legitimate strategic calculus”.Click here for complete article.

I read an article from bloomberg.com that the Pentagon has paid a small South Carolina part supplier $20.5 million dollars in freight cost over the last 6 years and it was overlooked because they have an auto-payment system that pays suppliers as long as the orders are deemed high priority.
My first reaction was stated in the second half of the title “Why doesn’t the Pentagon use FedEx and ask the suppliers to use their account for shipping“?
As I thought about this more, all of these automatic bill pay that I’m enrolled in is basically the same thing as Pentagon’s auto-payment system. Right now, I’m basically automatically paying off my credit card bills, and to be honest, I don’t look at every line of every statement ever since everything became electronic and automatic. Yoggie is a tiny linux-based hardware firewall that fits in our hand, requires no wall outlet, and provides enterprise-level firewall protection for our computer. It has two operating modes one draws power from the built-in USB cable, connects to our ethernet port, and the ethernet wall socket, and the second just uses the USB port and performs packet-packet filtering for our computer's own WiFi adapter through the use of a virtual bridge. It has a web based front end that shows us its status, and keeps us informed as to what sorts of attacks it has encountered. >>
Pentagon specialists fix a day to more than three million attempts by hackers to find flaw in computer network defense department. YouTube's co-founders on Thursday challenged the Pentagon's assertion that soldiers overseas were sapping too much bandwidth by watching online videos, the military's principal rationale for blocking popular Web sites from Defense Department computers."They said it might be a bandwidth issue, but they created the Internet, so I don't know what the problem is," CEO Chad Hurley said with a hearty laugh during an interview with The Associated Press.Hurley, Chief Technology Officer Steve Chen and YouTube spokeswoman Julie Supan emphasized that the online video company is trying to work with the Pentagon in hopes the military will reverse course or at least partially repeal the ban.
Is it a coincidence that the wing of the Pentagon hit by the “plane” had been under construction for years and there was no one in it? Or that the hole is only the size of the body of a 757, but there is no damage where the wings should have hit, and there where no wings to be found. And that all video tapes from security cameras around there area (gas stations, etc…) where taken and never shown to anyone by the FBI on 9/11.

Why technology sharing wont work with the Russians. Our leaders keep making the same mistake over and over again when dealing with the Russians. We will make brash public statements about sharing anti missile defense technology with the and wonder why we get such a chilly reception. What Washington still doesnt see is that Americans are like the rich preppies driving the new Ferrari inviting the kids from the poor side of town on a cruise to the beach. But the poor kids 78 Oldsmobile wont start half the time and when it does run it always overheats. Back during the space race days NASA spent about a million dollars developing a pen that would work in zero gravity for our astronauts to use in space. The Soviets had their cosmonauts use pencils instead. And that's a perfect example of how America and Russia approach things differently. The Russians just plain do not have the economic wherewithal to keep up with us on any technologically advanced military systems and they know it.
