Declining Dollar, Pension Funds and Downward Business
There is no doubt that America is heading into tough times and that people are going to feel the crunch. The dollar is declining, pension funds are coming due and major vanguard businesses are getting hurt. That means less money in American worker’s pockets and less businesses that can expect a profit from disposable income. A low American dollar means that foreign products become more expensive and American products become cheaper. The only problem is that the average American citizen has become addicted to such cheap products and since most of these items are not produced in the U.S. there is little manufacturing within the country to raise jobs. In the end it just means less products without much more jobs. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke stated that the central bank would again

In fact, approximately 75% of RRSPs are eventually converted to RRIF (Registered Retirement Income Fund) accounts. The title of this post isn't entirely accurate (you can't actually convert your RRSP to a defined benefit pension plan per se), but you can convert your RRSP into a structure that mimics a Defined Benefit Pension Plan through the use of a life annuity.Defined Benefit pensions are envied by some since you eliminate a lot of unknowns for your retirement income planning such as the risk of running out of money. But concerns about the idea remain, including with Employees Retirement System Chairman Bill Ceverha of Dallas, who wonders where such moves might lead. “Obviously, Rick Perry is not going to be governor forever. Pension Costs – a Potential Blind Spot
In a look at the balance sheet, pension costs can be overlooked or misjudged. It can turn out to be a very major expense that can derail a company or make it non-competitive. While more companies are getting out of pension programs, one has to have their radar up when looking at a company with pensions. A number of things can happen to move pension costs in the wrong direction and turn a company into a very large under-funded situation: 1. People stay with the company for a longer period of time. 2. People live longer. 3. Pension investments don’t perform as they had been expected to. 4. Companies may not fund pensions as much as they should when finances are tight. I am not a pension expert, but probably neither are most people. I suggest if you run into this situation, get a good understanding of what you are getting into. 1. How over or under funded is the plan? What is the trend over the past few years? 2. What is the split between retired people and current employees? 3. W

Pension Funds: The Benefit for Employees
The same forces of industrialization and urbanization that have generated the need for life insurance have also created the need for retirement saving. Increasing length of life and the widespread practice of mandatory retirement have intensified the need for retirement funds. The Social Security System, developed in the 1930s, provides a basic retirement income for nearly everyone, but many people wish additional retirement support. Anyone who wishes to can, of course, do his or her own saving and investment during working life and then retire on the income from his or her savings, gradually liquidate capital, or buy and annuity.
