I think it's quite late now to tell where I'm going next from here. Yep, you guess it, I'm really going to KMPP or Kolej Matrikulasi Pulau Pinang or in English, Matriculation College Penang. That is my first choice when I first applied for matriculation, and who knew I'm gonna get it. Some of my closest friends got there too. So I'm quite relieved that I won't felt alienated when I entered there since some of my friends are there as well. But then again, some who I really wanted them to enter there didn't got there, which is quite a disappointment to me. But hey, you can't be too selfish right? If I got the JPA scholarship, (please pray for me that I do :D), I would go away on my way to the overseas, much farer than now if I'm in Penang. I know we would not be able to stay together forever

Just ask UMNO and Barisan Nasional, they should know. :-)The common Malays in general are not that worried about the dismantling of the New Economic Policy as introduced by DAP in Penang. So far, only the elite and filthy rich Malays who had benefitted from NEP made most noises. Jimmy Choo - From Penang to London-based Billionaire
Most of us know Datuk Jimmy Choo as a very famous shoe designer based in London. Certain people (me included) think Jimmy Choo is master in designing weird looking foot wears. Many also believed that his career as a shoe maker has been glitter all along. The blatant truth about what we know about him is that he is freaking rich and successful. Few, however, are aware of Jimmy Choo’s humble beginning who studied only until Year 6 and worked his way up partly by cleaning the toilet at a shoe factory and surviving with instant noodles. Jimmy Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia in 1961 into a family of shoe maker, where his late father, Choo Kee Yin owned a shoe making shop in one of the streets in Penang. He went to Shih Chung primary school and studied until year 6. He stopped to help his father in the shoe making business where he made his very own first shoe at the age of 11. The skills he learned made him fell in love with the shoe making business and from there he decided to purs

Penang, Butterworth and the Taoist temples
I just returned from Thailand, to be accurate, from the small border town of Betong, about 100km east of Penang. I had been cycling at ease, because it was mostly going down, to my friends house near Kuala Batas. It was one of those days everything went so easy. At my friends house I was invited to join them in the evening to the Tow Boo Kong temple, nearby in Butterworth. I wrote an extensive page about this temple for my Pangkor website which you read here For the bicyclist I wrote another story with some more global material. Here is what happened those days in Butterworth and in Penang, because yes, I also went to one of the Nine Emperor Gods temple in Penang. Here’s the link

      Penang temples, Cheng Kon Sze
During the Nine Emperor Festival I was the guest of Mrs. Pearly and Mr. Chandra. They invited me to join them to the , another Nine Emperor Gods temple. I expected something of a similar temple. Nothing could have prepared me for what I would see. The temple itself is much older then the Tow Boo Kong Temple in Butterworth. Many devotees were around during the festival and it was an excellent experience. The Oil Lamp, 130 years old in Cheng Kon Sze The temple, though small was in many ways more beautiful then the one in Butterworth. While Tow Boo Kong for sure is more beautiful, and extensive in its architecture, the Cheng Kon Sze is older, one can almost feel the wisdom coming out of the temple. If you have little time, visit this temple instead of any other. Cheng Kon Sze is magnificent. Read more about the Cheng Kon Sze temple in Penang

Christmas In Penang and Langkawi ?
If you haven’t decided on a Christmas destination yet, Penang and the nearby resort islands of Langkawi in Malaysia's Andaman Sea is a great choice to consider. Penang is a beautiful colonial town with a mix of Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultural attractions. The city's temples and old churches can easily occupy a few days of sightseeing. While Penang has some good beaches in its own right, the Langkawi island chain is just a short hope by plane and offers about 100 small islands. There are several good resorts in Langkawi and the sand on the beaches is as white as snow. If you're still undecided about where to spend Christmas, consider Penang or Langkawi in Malaysia... Apple iPhone in Penang / Malaysia
I just saw iPhone in the mall just now. It shouldn’t be here because Apple has not announced the iPhone for Asia region but somehow someone manage to bring it in. If I am not wrong, it’s an unlock version and it’s 8GB. Too bad it’s not on display, just saw the price. Unable to touch it. As for the price, it sucks. RM3999, which is US$1,174. The shop must be crazy. Singapore also crazy, but it’s still cheaper, selling at US$727. I just hope Apple faster announced the iPhone in Asia region as Asia has half of the population of the world and when it is announce soon, hope it will be 2nd generation with 3G and more. So in the mean time waiting for iPhone, let’s play with the iPod touch first. The Snake Temple in Penang
One of the oldest temples in Malaysia, and probably world wide is the Snake Temple in Penang. The temple is located south of Georgetown city, about 30 minutes by bus or taxi. It’s worth a visit. Although the original temple of 1850 is completely renovated and most of the original temple even doesn’t exist anymore, it’s a very spiritual place. For non believers there’s always the attraction of the snakes. An extensive explanation of the Snake Temple can be found here. It’s a worthy visit, trust me.

      Nyonya wedding in Penang
After the Malay wedding in Kedah and Pangkor I thought I had experienced the main 3 kinds of wedding ceremonies in Malaysia. True and not. Yes, I have written a few pages about typical Malaysian style weddings, Chinese wedding Indian Wedding Malay Wedding - Kedah Malay Wedding - Pangkor And it was great, as a foreigner to witness such an event in a different culture then my own. Then I found Pearl’s website. She writes a lot about Penang, the culture and her own personal history in that area. Pearl is a Nyonya and a Chinese. Her daughter recently got married and this was celebrated in the Nyonya tradition. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there but fortunately for me, she wrote an extensive page about the different tradition you can find only in certain parts of Malaysia. It’s really interesting to read what she has to say: Nyonya Wedding ceremony Enjoy!

FM: While the rest of Sumatran scrambling to hilltops, our fellow Malaysian in Penang decided to have a look at the Tsunami.PENANG: Most Penangites were not aware of the tsunami alert and many were still enjoying the cool sea breeze at the Esplanade and Gur-ney Drive last night. A check by The Star found that most had not heard about the 8.2 magnitude earthquake off Sumatra until police officers in patrol cars arri-ved, and and instructed them to stay away from the beaches. Driver Ismail Abu Bakar, 40, had just parked his motorcycle at the Esplande when he heard about the alert from the police. “I did not know about the earthquake. Now I am a little worried and I think it is best to leave,” he said. Three Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students, who were fishing at Esplanade, also packed up their equipment and left. One of the students, who wanted to be known only as David, said that he and his two friends had heard about the Indonesian earthquake on the car radio b
