      Candy Review: Chocolate Mousse Peeps
It’s no secret I like Peeps. In fact, I think they’re close to candy perfection - sugary marshmallow interior plus granulated sugar exterior… how can one go wrong? It's Good Friday, and I am celebrating by letting the kids sleep in and cruising the web for Peeps Porn. Actually, I'm not specifically cruising for Peeps Porn, it just keeps popping up. There are a lot of people out there with too much time on their hands and a few free dollars to spend on marshmallows, toothpicks and pipe cleaners. God bless 'em.The Pioneer Press/Twin Cities.com diorama contest was the source of this widely circulated "Peep Show" photo:The Washington Post has a "Peeps Diorama" contest. My favorite semi-finalist is the "Say Anything" one, although the "Little Miss Sunshine" one is good, too. The Chicago Tribune contest isn't as funny, but it has a few good ones.Anne Nahm also had a funny post up, and now I think it's time for me to go buy a new toothbrush.

Diversion: Hot Chocolate with Melting Peeps, and Easter Treats in the Big City
Everyone I've talked to agrees that Easter is too early this year. Not that we can help it. St. Patrick's Day and Easter in the same week is wrong. The presence of two parades of that magnitude in New York City in the same week is wrong. With the winter chill still lingering, wool coat collars turned up against the wind, I'm not feeling appropriately pastel. I'm willing, nevertheless, to make the best of the situation at hand. In that spirit, I decided that nothing would be better this afternoon than a winter cup of hot chocolate with a couple of melting yellow Peeps. It's prettier and tastier than I imagined, and the Peeps looked sweet during their final sleep of drowning chocolate death.Edible Easter Creations in the CityIn strolling about the city, I've taken note of some of the fine East

Christmas, Easter, Marshmallow Peeps, and Me
Today we present another article from a Candy Addict reader. This one is from a reader named Monica: Whilst on an emergency Listerine run to CVS today (which I hate to do because it costs, like, twice as much as Target but hey, a self-proclaimed Candy Addict’s gotta take care of her pearly whites – oral care is no joking matter, my friend), I somehow managed to find myself – gingivitis’s enemy in arm – wandering down the Christmas aisle, looking for a holiday treat. Scanning the shelves, I weighed my seasonal options: Chocolate snowman? Boring. Reese’s Christmas tree? York snowflake? I do love candy with a festive shape, but not today. Candy Cane Hershey’s Kisses? Intriguing… Gingerbread Man Marshmallow Peeps? Sacrilege! Oh the fury! The rage! The adorable, delicious rage! Despite Just Born’s shameless holiday whoring of their Peeps, it is my personal belief (hey, if you don’t believe in something…) that they should be consumed exclusively at Easter (

Halloween Quickie Candy Reviews: Peeps Spooky Friends, Gummi Googly Eyes, Individual Twizzlers
Well, Halloween is over, the decorations are coming down, and the candy bowl is slowly emptying. While the sweet memories are still fresh, I thought I’d share some of my favorites from this year’s haul. Peeps Spooky Friends: These are pretty much equal in their level of awesomeness with the Googly Eyes. To describe these, I would have to say that they’re much like a compressed regular peep; they’re much more dense, but have the same granular sugar coating. In terms of flavor, though, they far surpass their puffy cousins. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what the flavor is, but it’s darn good. It’s reminiscent of chocolate and vanilla at the same time. Again, I wish I had more of these! Gummi Googly Eyes:These are absolutely awesome. The top is a typical gummy, with a nice, firm texture and a wonderfully sweet, fruity flavor. The bottom is a slightly different consistency, almost like a gummy with more air mixed in. The combination of the tw

      Candy Review: Peppermint Peeps
Having a popular candy blog does have its rewards. One of them is unexpected free candy in the mail. Today I came home to a package from Just Born, makers of Peeps. Inside was a package of brand new Peppermint Peeps, coming soon for the Christmas holidays. I have to be honest though - I have never been a big fan of Peeps. I don’t hate them, and can eat them if I must, but they aren’t something I’d ever buy for myself to eat. They’re just not really my thing. I’m also not crazy about candy cane peppermint flavor either. If I buy something minty, I usually go for wintergreen or spearmint. So I wasn’t sure about the Peppermint Peeps. I received a package of nine Peppermint Peeps stars. Each star is white and is “adorned with shimmering red sparkles.” I took a cautious bite to see what I had gotten myself into. They were soft. Incredibly soft. Like a pillow. Companies usually only send super-fresh candies to review, and Just Born definitel

      2007 Peeps Celebrity Survey
(images courtesy pdphoto.org and Yahoo!Photos) According to a survey released by Just Born (so you have to imagine that the results might be a bit biased), the celebrity that most resembles a Peep (”either in physique, colorful attire, or sweet nature/personality”) is Will Ferrell. I wonder what criteria people thought of when they chose Will? The female celebrity who most resembles a Peep is Jessica Simpson. I don’t really see that at all. Will Ferrell, yes. Jessica, not so much. Additional interesting Peeps facts, according to the survey: 59% of voters prefer the Peep Chick over the Peep Bunny Most people prefer eating their Peeps head-first Most people also prefer eating their Peeps fresh from the package, instead of stale [sacrilege!] People think that President Bush and Britney Spears are most in need of Peeps So what does everyone think? Easter Peeps Treats
Easter Rice-Krispie Peeps Treats are a tradition around here--for the kids because they love anything with this much sugar and for me because they can make them themselves. It's the basic Rice Krispies Treats recipe shaped into little nests with a marshmallow Peep stuck on top and surrounded by tiny candy eggs. I couldn't find tiny eggs this year for some reason and instead used tiny Wilton hearts which turned out all the cuter. If needed they can each be sealed in a plastic bag and tied with curling ribbon as an individually wrapped treat.***You may remember that Andrew left for eight days on business in Seattle and Washington D.C. You may remember my moaning about missing out on the fun and the chance to visit our old haunt, Continental Pizzas and Subs. Well he came home last Wednesday and you know what he pulled out of his bag? Yup, bought and carried 3000 miles just for me. Eight hours later I was enjoying my tiny piece of 8-inch heaven.Actually, he brought me six sandwiches.

      Pimp Your Own Peeps!!!
clipped from Easter marshmallow kit I still have to remind myself to write "2007" on checks and already Easter is looming large. My husband and I normally skip the egg hunt and chocolate-covered marshmallow gorge, but now that we have three beautiful nieces in our lives, we're becoming a lot more holiday-oriented. That's why this Easter marshmallow kit from Williams-Sonoma caught my eye. The kit costs just $24.50 and contains everything non-cooks like me need to whip up some Easter treats: marshmallow mix, bunny and chick molds, pastry bags, and decorations (pink, yellow, and purple sanding sugar and black sugar eyes). Bunny, chick, and butterfly cookie cutters are also included in case one of our nieces cries "trademark infringement" with the Peeps-esque molds. The marshmallows actually don't look like Peeps at all, but the acccusation would still be pretty amazing considering that the girls are 1, 3, and 4 years old.Via I4U News.feed

      Valentine's-Themed Peeps
Once upon a time, Just Born’s Marshmallow Peeps were strictly an Easter candy, and they garnered a huge following, as evidenced by the amount of websites and articles devoted to them. Naturally, Candy Addict has already collected a lot of those links. Within the past few years, Peeps have been popping up all over the place. There are ghost and black cat Peeps for Halloween, stars and tree Peeps for Christmas, even patriotic Peeps for the Fourth of July. And there are Valentine’s Day Peeps for February 14th. If you’re looking for something a little different to give to your sweetie, then Peeps might be a good alternative to the standard box of chocolates. This year, they have Vanilla and Strawberry Creme flavored Hearts, regular marshmallow Pink Hearts, and a Decorating Kit, where you can personalize 4 Peep Hearts with cake icing. But what really impressed me this year is their offer of recipes and craft projects with Peeps as major ingredients. Check out the Peeps I

You send them your photo, and they preview it for inclusion on their page. My photo is now listed, and if you click it, I will remain on the front page. At least one of the photos of “cleavage” is actually a guy’s bum (just to warn you). After clicking my photo, you can return to 25peeps, and click Miss Cellania too [The blond with glasses]. Ain’t blog popularity contests fun?

It is a page filled with 25 thumbnail pictures in 5 rows. Every picture links to its owner's blog and they compete with each other. It's a form of survival of the fittest. Whenever a new picture is included in the list the last one drops out. HOW WILL THIS GIVE YOU TRAFFIC? I mentioned the survival of the fittest. 25peeps measures the thumbnails click popularity. People click on the thumbnails they find to be most interesting, so the more interesting your picture is the more clicks (visitors) you get. However, if people don't like your picture you don't get enough clicks and you drop out. It's simple as that! The success on 25peeps depends solely on the picture you submit. Their policy is that the picture must show you and only you (this rule is hard to implement because you can submit picture
