Types of bicycle pedals & shoe compatibility guide
If there’s one thing that causes beginner cyclists anxiety, it’s the overwhelming choice of pedals that are currently available, so I thought I’d write this article about the types of road and MTB pedals and their compatibility in the hopes that someone could learn something from it. First things first, the good news is that 98% [...]

      Sleishman - Twin pedals

      Pedals off
Here is a rather easy way to help your kid find or discover the balance needed for bicycling. It worked really well for my youngest son. I removed the pedals and adjusted the saddle so that he could reach the ground with his feet. In this way he could kick himself forward and feel safe as he could always feel the ground with his feet. I let him try rolling down a safe slope and without any hesitat

Traditional toe-clips and straps vs clipless pedals.
I’ve noticed that some cyclists seem to have an aversion to using clipless pedals. Actually I’d call it more like a fear of being clamped to the pedals. Maybe, like me, they tried a cheap set that initially came with their bike & nearly killed themselves. I urge you to try as many different pedal [...]

'Pastie Lady' Naked Activist Pedals Earth Awareness around Ojai, California
Carlos Chavez / Los Angeles TimesJennifer Moss, 32, was arrested for indecent exposure after she stripped down to her hemp g-string and flower pasties in front a crowd of parishioners who just attended Easter Sunday Mass at an Ojai, California Catholic church. Why? "There are so many bad people who are hurting and destroying the Earth, and many of them are religious people." Naked activism is nothing new to the perky brunette, however. She has been zipping around the town on a bicycle for the past year promoting natural fibered clothing and earth awareness, earning the nickname "Earth Friend Jen" and dividing the populace into "pro and con Pastie Lady camps." Possible charges of public indecency are pending.News Source:L.A. Times

      Power-strip with ejector pedals.
The Eject Power-strip is a concept that uses a pedal device to eject power plugs that lead to devices not in use to prevent "vampire" power consumption. That's pretty neat, especially if the power-strip is hard to get at, i.e. under a desk. But being clever, unfortunately it does not help you get the stuff connected again, since it appears you still have to bend down and crawl under the desk to plug them back in. Maybe further development is required, like making the pedal device into a circuit breaker...

Mitt Romney Back-Pedals and Flip-Flops Again
Courtesy of the website Crooks and Liars, here is a video of Mitt Romney backing away from his "Freedom requires Religion" statement from his earlier speech. I'll believe when I see it when an atheist or agnostic are ever appointed to a position of power in government. With all the religious litmus tests around, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Voice of Homer Simpson Pedals With "The Bicycle Men' For Chicago Tour de Force
CHICAGO - Frantic and fantastically funny, the musical-comedy play "The Bicycle Men" invades Chicago again for a limited run at the Lakeshore Theater this time featuring the man - Dan Castellaneta - who is best known as the voice of TV's Homer Simpson."The Bicycle Men".Photo credit: The Lakeshore TheaterThe show, which originated with Castellaneta's co-stars (Mark Nutter, John Rubano and Joe Liss) as "Le Comedie du Bicyclette" at the Los Angeles ImprovOlympics in April 2003, had a long run in Chicago that same year.Loosely structured around a nebbish American (Castellaneta) and his bicycle tour of the French countryside, Nutter, Rubano and Liss play multiple characters designed to insanely disrupt the journey.Set in a bicycle shop, youth hostel, restaurant, movie theater and most weirdly a talent show cabaret, each location inspires another surreal sketch with a musical number. Accompanied on piano by the multi-talented Nutter, Castellaneta and company sing a "C

Double Basses Or Double Beater Pedals - Drum Hardware Discussion
By: Eric Starr First, let me state that I am not implying that double bass playing is a "must" for all drum solo artists. I'm only saying that if you do want to use double bass drum effects, that today there are two basic directions to consider. Second, I'm limiting my discussion to acoustic drums, since I believe electronics is a separate category to discuss at at another time. Okay, let's discuss both acoustic bass drum options. For many years I used two bass drums and there are at least two distinct advantages with that option. To the audience, it has a distinctive visual appeal. You can use different pitches and/or different sized bass drums for unique tonal patterns. But, there are also some possible concerns about using two bass drums. They (perhaps) take up a larger area for your drum kit on stage. There is an extra bass drum to transport (which certainly may not bother everyone). The positioning of other components of the drum kit may be more difficult. Depending on your rea

      Eggbeater Candy Pedals.
There have been many funky pedal designs in the last decade, and the original “eggbeaters” by Crank Bros often draw some strange looks. Velib - Paris Pedals
Tired of trekking around Paris?  Why not hop onto a Velib.  Que est que c'est you ask?  Well it is the “bicycle transit system” recently introduced by the city of Paris.  The word velib itself combines velo (bike) with liberte (liberty).  Tourists and Parisians alike can find bike stations throughout the city and purchase access cards to use the bikes.  The Velib is heralded by the Paris City Council as a way to make Paris more “green”.  With the influx of 10, 648 bikes in the city, Paris is on the right (bike) path to being green.  The cost to ride is slightly convoluted but bear with me.  A one day access card costs 1 Euro, your first half-hour of riding is free and after that a supplement of 1 Euro is charged.  So if you had the bike for an hour it would cost 1 Euro + the 1 Euro for access.  A half-hour ride would only cost the 1 Euro you paid for access.  Beyond that 2 Euros are charged for another half hour and 4 Euros for every additional half-hour.  So as l
