The damp weather today didn't deter me from taking a bicycle ride this morning. Instead of my springy mountain bike, I decided to take out my road bike, which is quite like an unsprung mountain bike with thin tyres and road style gears. Neither of my bikes are very expensive although both are a joy to use. When new, they both had a wide range of "street credible" stickers on them to make them look like the price I paid. I peeled most of them off and the bikes then looked much sleeker and less gimmicky. My only challenge before today's run was that one of the pedals is making a clicking sound. I took a look and there's something wrong with the thread. So I've swapped it temporarily with the pedal from a smaller bicycle. It works fine, but does look a little odd until I can get a proper replacement.

Last month Zane got his first bike. We had to store it for a while so he could grow a little taller to reach the pedals. I took it out on Monday evening and his feet actually reached. It's amazing what a difference a month can make.I took him out front to the sidewalk to see if I can get him to pedal himself. Of course, he didn't quite grasp the concept of pedalling to move forward. He rested his feet just above the pedals and wanted me to push/pull him up and down the street. He was so happy he was beaming. He also got very frustrated if I stopped. For cyclists who find those steep hills a bit of a challenge there is a new product that may in the future make all those struggles a thing of the past. VETD a UK based environmental technology development company, are to market their new lightweight hydrogen fuel cell powered pedal bike, the bike are available in three different sizes, which will produce between 14 to 156 volts or up to 220 volts if it is used as art of a power pack, the fuel cell will hold up to 40 liters of hydrogen. Hydro cell as it is known as, is a lightweight rechargeable hydrogen fuel cell, that has an internal metal hydride store, this is a more comical version as the battery pack core is alkaline, compared to the other ones which have a platinum core and therefore more expensive. The bike has a range of around 60 miles on one tank of the hydrogen fuel; the fuel is the standard grade, which is considerably cheaper than the other types of hydrogen fuel. I finally went to the bike shop today to hear the inevitable, “What have you done to your bike!” line concerning my lack of maintenance to my major mode of transportation. I lamented over the $200 tune-up and part replacement estimate, realizing I’d paid just $210 for the bike used one year ago. I thought over the maintenance I could do myself, and felt guilty about the fact that I’ve said I would do it for months now. It’s probably the same with our car if I think about it, but I don’t use the car enough to really care. So, a bike, like a car, cost money to maintain, and yet I’m so reluctant to maintain it. I’m constantly playing a numbers game as to whether one choice or another saves more money. Whilst perusing Europe Travel News today, I learned about Go Pedal, a London-based service that delivers rental bicycles to hotels. If you want to get around town on your own steam, this relatively new service means you don’t have to go hunting for a bike shop once you arrive. The company also comes and gets the bike(s) when you’re done. Prices start at 32 quid/day for one bike, but go down if you rent for several days or rent multiple bikes. It was about USD 98:- at the time (now on sale for GBP 39:95 (about USD 78:-) a pair on Pedalite's own web shop. The drop in price is perhaps due to the fact that there is a competitor on the market. When I first started medical transcription I would go and pick up tapes from the doctors and transcribe them at home on a transcription machine and put them on a floppy disk and the next morning take the disk and tapes back to the clinic and pick up new ones.Eventually my clinic started using dictation which could be transcribed via a WAV pedal. Now all I do is log into the clinic and download the doctor's voice dictation and transcribe using the WAV pedal to hear the doctor's dictation.Using the WAV pedal allows me to transcribe for transcription companies and clinics anywhere in the US. Now I never have to leave the house at all. I even have them mail my pay check. This is what I call really working at home.

and I'm afraid it's probably moi. I can't find the foot pedal for a cute little machine I bought about 15 years ago. The machine is a little travel size thing - Riccar Super Lite. The foot pedal is MIA, either misplaced by me, or packed up in some "logical" place by DH. I don't think they make this machine anymore, so how do I shop for a replacement pedal? The fitting in the machine has 3 prongs, and I'm pretty sure the power cord and foot pedal were all linked together.
