With some days off and down time in SoCal coming up I started watching the Twin Peaks Gold Box DVD set, and plan on getting through at least one season over the next few weeks. I initially watched the series on VHS about six years ago, being slightly behind the curve catching the original airings. I watched the pilot episode last night and was amazed at the quality of picture and sound in this 10 disc set. They’re as razor sharp as Josie’s machine saw down at the mill. I love the imagery, subtle humor, and style of Dale Cooper. His decent character and observations as an outsider are sly and hilarious, and creator David Lynch can create dialogue and meaning out of something as small as a raised eyebrow or pursed lip. Between the Log Lady, Leland Palmer, apple pie, and David Duchovny as Dennis (or Denice,) I don’t know what show could be better on a cold winter nights. Share This

The weather has been mostly boring with overcast almost every day, but on this day the sky was clear. There was some nice blue tones to be seen such as in this picture. If you look at the photo in large format you can see the wind blowing snow off the mountain peaks. Must be extremely cold on top of those mountains (they are located on an island called Grytøya) You can see the same mountains here, but in an early spring scene. Jaimie and I went camping at Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia last weekend. We tent camped at site #21 and Hikes around the lake the first evening. It was a beautiful day and was quite crowded around the lodge. The park is very well maintaned and the staff is very friendly. This was the first trip with our new Mountain Hardware Casa 4 tent. Setup time is a about 2 minutes more than the average tent, but worth the effort. The design offers a roomy interior with a spacious gear vestibule. The next morning we woke up and hiked the sharp top mountain trail. We just about had the trail to ourselves on the way up. At the top, we ran into a group that took the bus up. The views are sweet, you can see a complete 360 degrees. It is also worth the trip over to Buzzards Roost. There are some cool climbing rocks and more breath taking views. Here are some pics:

Tonight, driving home from Marco Island we saw a license place that said "THE MENG". That's funny. Genius.K is going on a swamp walk on Keewaydin Island in the morning. They're going to be tagging plants for Rookery Bay and identifying all they can in preparation for the 4H Marine Ecology Event on Nov. 3. It's her first swamp walk. She'll be about waist-deep in mangroves. I don't think there are gators because it's an island surrounded by salt water, but there are big cats there, and certainly snakes. Rumours regarding Olympus’ new SLR camera have been confirmed and pictures of the camera, dubbed the E3 are out. The camera also features a 10 megapixel sensor, an improved autofocus system that Olympus claims is faster than the Nikon D200 or the Canon 30D, sensor dust reduction and in-body IS that will “surpass any yet seen”. Not much else is known about the E3 for now, or even if the final product name is even E3 for that matter. Expect more details to surface in the coming weeks with shipment expected to start in November to compete with Nikon’s and Canon’s latest releases. Olympus is facing really stiff competition from the two big boys and the swivel LCD screen could be a factor, but I feel it has a lot of work to dethrone the kings of consumer photographic equipment - Nikon and Canon.

I almost had a full week of training, with no remote working taking me away from home.On Tuesday I did a gym session mirroring my Friday session; cardio warm-up then lots of core stability and resistance work. We just changed our lives.The fire pit of destiny is now installed in the back yard. Currently, the most rewarding thing about horses is the fact that you will always learn about them.It's impossible to know everything about them.
