Today was boys day out here in CT. Daddy, grandpa Lou and the boys went to take in a Yankees game today. I really feel so sorry for them. It was nearly 100 degrees today with a heat advisory for the city. But, as this is the last year for Yankee stadium, fil really wanted them to experience Yankee stadium before it’s torn down. I hear they had f un. Fil and I took the over-under at 3 innings
My congressperson for the First Tennessee Congressional District is David Davis. He is up for re-election this Fall. Rep. Davis wears his faith on his sleeve, check his campaign ad. Frankly, I don't particularly care if a politician talks about his religious faith or his love for Jesus. Yet, when a politician does this, he opens himself up to an evaluation of what this faith is.It would appea

We visited Athens, Santorini and Crete.Samos is a bit out of the way.

Sorry for not uploading any posts these days. I went to my home town and the decision was spontaneous and hence I could not inform my readers. I have a net connection in my home and hence I did not think much about that coz I could write new posts from there. But actually when I went there I could not believe my eyes coz my phone connection at the home is dead and as this is is festival time "UGADI", so the phone service people are also off on duty. But after coming back today, I first though of writing a post about this in my blog. But to my surprise I came to know that scheduled posts is available in blogger. One of those timeless Greek islands, Paxos is a million miles away in mindset from the busy resorts of Corfu but a mere hour by hydrofoil. The island is only seven miles long and 2½ wide, and no car journey need take longer than 15 minutes, but there are many nooks and crannies to explore and great contrasts of scenery, with the olives, poplar and cypress so typical of the Ionian islands.Transport is usually by car, moped or boat, but there is one bus, which makes a circuit of the island. If you use it often the driver and jolly female conductor will soon treat you as a regular. Familiarity is one of the pleasures of a small island. It’s likely that the owner of the local grocery store is also the person from whom you will rent your boat, moped or taxi.

Hi allA friend sent me an email below, which I think will put things in perspective.===========================Dear all, A friend had sent me an email asking what's my take on the violence and how it came about. As it was on the tv news that China president Wen Jia Bao stated that the violence is organised and planned by the "Dalai group". Initially I didn't want to send out mass emails as I am not really interested in politics. However, after some consideration, I decided that I should play a part in raising some awareness of what little I know of the Tibetan community and especially the Dalai Lama and his govt-in-exile (having stayed in India and lived among the Tibetan community for a while). Just as I think the media (esp Chinese media) is quite biased in their reporting, I to

Water fountains in indoor settings have become quite a buzzword among home decorators and owners like you in the last few years. This is not surprising, since indoor fountains give you a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, as the water quietly runs in the fountain. Stores can attest to the popularity of indoor fountains. A look at stores in malls and on the Internet results in a lot of indoor fountains being sold. But what happens if you can’t find your indoor fountain of your dreams in the malls or in the various websites? Do not fret. Actually, there are many of you that do not seem to find what they think are the right indoor fountains for them. Having a beautiful and elegant indoor water fountain does not always have to be the same with what other people have just because you bought yo

Finally , a peaceful weekend. No drama and plenty of sunshine. One can't ask for much more than that. I needed an uneventful weekend just to unwind from the past stressful events. I even managed to get some eggplant and zucchini seeds sown. Tomorrow I'd love to start getting the cucumbers sown. I bet I know some little ones who would just love to help. Today they picked all the oranges off of our orange trees. Next are the grapefruits.
David Roberts is a little hard on a "one man mission" for the environment... Call me a moron but, I will be tuning in on Lee's campaign at savetheplanetprotest.com... I had a hard time reading David of the Grist's choice of words on "Lee's" protest of the "Discovery Channel". Using the words "stupid" and "idiot" to describe this environmental search for truth in science media (linked here). Even kindergarten children know enough not to blindly call individuals "stupid idiots" as it's hurtful and reflects ignorance. I remind my son that the world is filled with Billions of people and choosing which ones are "idiots" is just not that easy (see Idiot or Moron). Furthermore, ranking LEE's cause of on a scale of "smart" to "idiot" is impossible in world of imbeciles who contin

Many people turned up in their white shirts this morning to make a peaceful march against the sale of land at the north end of Ambergris Caye. People of San Pedro wanted to make it known how they feel about selling off land in this particular area and feel that there is plenty of available land that is not in national parks areas or land that is designated for town expansion. The area in question known as Pinkerton Estates holds a valuable part of Mayan culture and nature both of which are very important to Belize history and tourism. It contains ancient Maya archaeological sites - including evidence of a small village with a small wall, cenote wells and Maya artifacts. This area also hosts plenty of wildlife and unique plant life that is not found anywhere else on the island - it would not be in anyone's best interest to sell off this land for development. For more information please check out the post on Ambergris Caye message boardSecond post Meeting up at Tropic CargoSomeone movi

This is not your typical “top 10 list” of things to do to have the holiday of your dreams - there are no recommendations to plan ahead, simplify, exercise regularly or decorate with organic ornaments.

Let’s be honest, now. You haven’t accomplished all of your personal goals this year (where did the time go?). In addition, people you love haven’t achieved their full potential that you envision (even though you are right). And, there are still those incomplete projects scattered around the home (or hiding behind closet doors). Relax - you are just like the rest of us mere humans. Don’t be frustrated. Don’t let it get you down. All you need to do for now
Peaceful You Are 86% PeacefulYou are the epitome of inner peace and total calm. You are grounded, emotionally mature, and very wise. While no one's life is perfect, you have a great amount of perspective on the world - and you place in it.How Peaceful Are You?Despite the madness of running around Singapore during the weekend, I was suprised that I was able to not panic too much when things do not go to plan. I used to be so neurotic when things dont go according to plan, but now I have learned to relax and just make the best of the situation.I was also reflecting back on why I get angry. Its the bus. The bus makes me angry when I fail to catch it, when it arrives late, when it takes 30-45 minutes to arrive. I feel like I spend half my time waiting for the bus, running after buses, sleeping in buses since I moved to Ubi. Last week, while I was having courses at IMH, I took a solid 1 hour to reach there. I realised that when I was able to finish listening to 1 whole tape each morning that
Okay, these are like the coolest things ever. Check out the Flameless Window Candles on this site. See, we need some of these because the cats can get just about anywhere, and I really am worried they will catch fire or, even worse, catch the whole house on fire.
They even have wall sconce candles, which I love and they really stay out of the way. I’m going to ask my relatives and friends for some of these for Christmas. I love the soft flicker of candle light, safe candle light, in the winter when it is dark most of the time. I love the dark. Love candles. Love firelight. If you are looking for something like this I would encourage you to visit the site.
In fact, I might just go buy some for myself. They are powered by batteries, so absolutely no flames. I can even have one at work! They don’t let us have flame candles here with, I guess, good reason as they don’t want the whole building burning down. We get enough false fire alarms with people burning their toa

The moon in Libra usually indicates the period in the month where people are naturally inclined to get along with each other, but with the moon in stress aspect to shake-em up Uranus sets everything off balance. A Grand Trine in water signs indicates people are in touch with their feelings, but Mars in Cancer in challenge aspect to the Moon shows the angrier side of them. Expect some passive aggressive behavior, pouts and silent treatment as people feel that they are not getting the attention they deserve. We got anything but a peaceful, easy feeling going on.

Bush Calls For Mideast Truce So U.S. Can Attack Iraq
From the horses ass in Washington, D.C. (SatireWire.com) — Complaining that the window of opportunity was closing, an exasperated President Bush today called on Israelis and Palestinians to declare an immediate cease fire in order to allow the United States to invade Iraq.
“Look, I understand you guys have problems, but the more you fight, the more awkward it is for us to get Arab support,” Bush said. “So if you guys could just hold off for a few days, we’ll run in there, do our thing, and get out.”
In telephone conversations with Bush, however, neither Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon nor Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat appeared to be moved by the President’s further lament that America now has 80,000 troops in the region, “and the catering bill alone is killing me.”
Instead, Sharon suggested Bush seek approval from Arab nations by blowing up Arab nations, while Arafat suggested

2:191 And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers. [87, Medina]
9:123 Make ready for them all thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others beside them whom ye know not. Allah knoweth them. Whatsoever ye spend in the way of Allah it will be repaid to you in full, and ye will not be wronged. [113, Medina]

USF student leaders plan to protest with a "peaceful sit-in" on campus Tuesday morning -- their tactic for reversing what they say is university officials' unresponsiveness to allegations against USF's top student affairs administrator. Student body president Garrin Flowers said the protest will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Marshall Center on the main Tampa campus, and students will march from there to the administrative offices of President Judy Genshaft.
Ousted student affairs official James Dragna, sent an e-mail to dozens of colleagues earlier this month accusing USF student affairs vice president Jennifer Meningall of misspending, abusive treatment of her employees, and improper hiring. She denies the accusations. The matter is being investigated by USF's audit and compliance office, but USF spokesman Ken Gullette dismissed Dragna's claims with a press release earlier this month that announced a "preliminary self-review" found no grounds to support Dragna's allegations.
Climate change protesters calling for an end to domestic flights in the UK blockaded a departure lounge at Manchester Airport today. They linked themselves together with arm-tube devices refusing to let passengers through. One of the protesters was Vanessa Hall, a local Green Party councilor: "We have this whole Manchester Green City, aspiring to be a green city, but it is nonsense when you're expanding an airport." Flying may not be the biggest source of CO2 but it is still a significant part of the problem. But here we at least have the option and ability to not contribute to this slice of the cake. If carbon rationing would be in effect we would think again and again and probably again before we chose to fly and be obliged to spend a major part of our carbon allowance, especially if we could get to the destination by train. Today we hardly think at all.

Hassan Wirayuda, Foreign Minister of Indonesia urged the military junta controlling Myanmar to avoid resorting to violence means in handling peaceful demonstrations which have filled the streets of their nation with thousands of marching monks. He said: “Indonesia urges Myanmar not to resort to coercive measures in handling peaceful rallies.” The foreign minister expressed doubt criticism from abroad would have any effect on Burmese military leaders who have lived for years under sanctions. The latest reports indicate soldiers are firing in the air, and, in some cases, at demonstrators. There are also video shots of soldiers charging into monk demonstrators and beating up monks.
Myanmar is one of those situations in which the outside world can only stand on the outside observing corrupt violent leaders impose their will upon a resisting nation. Outside of armed intervention, nothing will change their attitudes.
It’s sad to say, but a Ryan Adams show is a big gamble these days. You can really never tell what you’re gonna get. It could start off really strong and then he could have a minor meltdown and storm off stage. As much as I love the guy, he sure can piss me off sometimes. The first time I saw him, he was just starting to tour for the Cold Roses album. That night in Toronto was one of those bad nights. Ryan & the Cardinals came on stage, launched into this new song, I hadn’t heard called “Magnolia Mountain”. Wow. It looked like we were on our way to a mindblowing show. Well, shortly after that, Ryan finished his first bottle of wine. Then some aborted songs followed, lots of sound problems and tuning, then bitching at the audience (if you are a fan of Ryan’s this must sound very familiar). Although, through the lows, he could still bust out a great tune, it wasn’t enough to salvage the night. So that was my introduction to R

The international community needs to keep the process of dialogue open in order to restrict the idea of using force against Iran, he said. Underlining the need for clarifying and moving forward within the framework of a timetable agreed upon by IAEA and Iran, he said other nations should understand that the issue has been tied with the security of the region, therefore, they are expected to be more patient. Taking a page from Ahmadinejad, we should add; we do not take these statements seriously, comments by diplomats never speak beyond the process of negotiation.” The “secular pope” is seeing to it that the entire region/

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the leader of that bastion of humane treatment told a press conference recently:'"Wars, threats, insecurity, arms race and massacre of nations, spread of lies and rumors have drawn a gloomy prospects for the humanity."'He added "that nations want to live together in peace and friendship enjoying equality, but, the ruling system has always been responsible for escalating tension."Tired of "the ruling system" always being responsible for escalating tension, the leader would like Iran and other nations in the middle east region to be responsible for this.As supporting evidence, the President of Iran also recently told visitors to the "Great Quranic program in the summer of Lunar year 1441:""A nation who has been inspired by teachings of the holy Quran shines in all fields including reconstruction, science, justice-seeking, sports, technology as well as efforts to establish divine values.""The Iranian nation is among the nati
By Michael CelenderI am certainly one of the people who was really looking forward to watching this movie because the book, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, did have a significant impact on my life when I read it about 15 years ago. I was not disappointed.I was impressed with the level of talent that was brought to it. I thought Nick Nolte was great as Socrates. I also liked Scott Mechlowicz and Amy Smart in their roles.Of course, as a big fan of the book, I couldn’t help being a little disenchanted that it didn’t follow it more closely. I realize that was destined to be the case though. The key messages still made their way to the audience in a poignant manner.I have to admit that there is much I cannot remember now from the book because after I read it I lent it to an acquaintance and never got it back. After renting the DVD I bought it and will buy the original book again as well. The one missing piece that I had truly hoped to see on screen was the long speech Socrates made at t
Finally, someone is suggesting a peaceful approach to Iran. It’s a wind of fresh air.
In a recent poll by Terror Free Tomorrow, a nonprofit research group that develops strategies to counter terrorism, 70 percent of Iranians thought that normal relations with the West should be a high priority, but only 29 percent thought nuclear energy should be, and an astonishing 61 percent disapproved of Ahmadinejad’s government.
The internal vulnerabilities of Iran’s ruling circles make this a perfect time to extend an olive branch to the people of Iran with a diplomatic initiative that involves economic incentives and development opportunities for the poor, the middle class, and the reformers. Multilateralism is a must if we want this to happen, because Europe, Russia, Japan, and others maintain good relations with Iran’s business sector, the kind necessary in order to provide socioeconomic development assistance. If the Revolutionary Guard and the president block these
Practicing the art of Wing Chun changes lives. A book, and now movie, based on a true storythat changes lives is "Way of the Peaceful Warrior." Here are a few quotes from it...If you don't get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don't want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can't hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is a law, and no amount of pretending will alter that reality. You haven't yet opened your heart fully, to life, to each moment. The peaceful warrior's way is not about invulnerability, but absolute vulnerability--to the world, to life, and to the Presence you felt. All along I've shown you by example that a warrior's life is not about imagined perfection or victory; it is about love. Love is a warrior's sword; wherever it cuts, it gives life, not death.Pain is a relatively objective, physical p
IS YOUR COUNTRY PEACEFUL?"Peace and sustainability are the cornerstones of humanity’s survival in the 21st century. The major challenges facing humanity today are global – climate change, accessible fresh water, ever decreasing bio-diversity and over population. Problems that call for global solutions and these solutions will require co-operation on a global scale unparalleled in history.Peace is the essential prerequisite, for, without peace, how can the major nations of the world co-operate to solve these issues? The Global Peace Index is a ground-breaking milestone in the study of peace. It is the first time that an Index has been created that ranks the nations of the world by their peacefulness and identified some of the drivers of that peace. 121 countries have been ranked by their ‘absence of violence’, using metrics that combine both internal and external factors. Most people understand the absence of violence as an indicator of peace. This definition also allows for the me

Hulk Hogan can’t be trusted to dish out very good insight. After all, he allows his daughter Brooke Hogan to dress in clothing that Britney Spears might not even be caught wearing in clubs. So that what Hogan had to say about Chris Benoit with a steroids-laden grain of salt. “He was peaceful and kept to himself,” Hogan said to Us Magazine. Hogan, who last saw Benoit in March, says he wonders what pushed the wrestler over the edge. But he has this unique theory: “I think it had to be something personal, a domestic problem between him and his wife.” That wife, Nancy Benoit, had a darker side. The Hulkster concluded: “She was into devil-worship stuff. It was part of her [wrestling] character, but [she was] somebody who gets so close to their character, someone who gets into their character too much. Sometimes these people believe their own publicity.”
Being the very girly girl that I am, it will probably come as no surprise to you that I love anything that smells strong and flowery. But I'm not talking your garden variety rose or lilac single note scents (borrrrrring....). I'm talking about the unexpected scent combos that Pacifica puts together in each of their handmade soy candles, body butters, soaps and perfumes. We're not talking "Spring Meadow", "Ocean Breeze," or (insert other cliche scent title here)...Pacifica specializes in exotic fragrances like Egyptian Bergamot Rose, Waikiki Pikake, Caribbean Sugar Pumpkin and my personal fave, Tibetan Mountain Temple (sooooo soothing...). The names of the scents alone make you feel all warm and fuzzy. They always seem to have a sale on something (right now their new scent, Moroccan Chamomile Apple Blossom is 20% off), and their candles last FOREVER...a 2x3 round travel candle lasts me about a year. All around, one of my most favorite companies ever, for quality products and truly un

How can Iraq be "peaceful" when we have things like this happening in the United States. If this occured in Baquba, we'd be calling them savages, barbaric Arab Muslim crazies. What do we call them when it happens in Texas?
Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a "father's day" in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. William Smart, a Civil war veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd's mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington State. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. At about the same time in various towns and cities across America other people were beginning to celebrate a "father's day". In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Jonson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.Father's Day has become a day t
A new global peace index was recently announced by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a sister company of The Economist newspaper. I thought this was a ranking in which Honduras should come out pretty well since Honduras has only been involved in one very short war and it basically started over a soccer game.I was wrong. Here are some excerpts from the article:The methodology of the index takes note of internal factors—crime rates, prison population, trust between citizens—and external ones, like relations with neighbours, arms sales, foreign troop deployments. The Economist Intelligence Unit measured countries' peacefulness based on wide range of indicators - 24 in all - including ease of access to "weapons of minor destruction" (guns, small explosives), military expenditure, local corruption, and the level of respect for human rights. After compiling the Index, the researchers examined it for patterns in order to identify the "drivers" that make for peaceful societies. They found t

Have you asked yourself today what things you have lined-up for the day? Normally, this would include that of considering the business side, social side and of course the private side of your daily schedule. But this does not stop here.
Consider as well how these appointments would go along. Good results can help in sizing up the mind of a person to experience a totally relaxing and refreshing mind which is important when one finally sleeps. Bad results will keep a person thinking. Thinking is something that is carried even until a person would become unconscious. It remains in our minds which can turn out ideas or worse, become storied nightmares that play a critical role on our overall personality.
The lifestyles we have are also important in determining if we are getting the required 8 hour sleep we always look for. Considering the challenging world we have today, it has become rare for a person to get a straight 8 hour convenient sleeping period. A balancing act may be recommended
