      In Other Words: Sharing Paths

Blackaby & Richard Blackaby from their devotional book, Experiencing God The one word question “WHY?” has escaped my thoughts more than I can count.  Many of the why’s will not be answered until I reach heaven - and then, I doubt it will really matter.  But some why’s seem a little more fulfilled, [...]

Nigel Kennedy - Where All Paths Meet
I earned this today – was working on cleaning up, dusting, fixing various things & listening to loud music the whole time. Then came time to relax and I pulled out this one. I once saw Nigel guest performing with a symphony orchestra some many numerous years ago when I lived near such an animal. The performance was superb and all was well, but then – wait – an encore? Talking to People to Learn About Possible Job/Career Paths
The day I first learned that Los Angeles had railroad police, I was talking at a party to a man I didn’t know, and he told me that’s what he did. I had never heard of railroad police, so of course I asked him to describe in more detail what railroad police did. That day I learned about a possible interesting career – not necessarily for me, but just a piece of information to be filed away for a future time. And when you’re considering possible career fields for yourself, an interest in asking people about themselves and what they do can be very valuable. I also remember the day a professor at a California college disparaged someone working in banking. This Ph.D. thought if you were in banking that meant you were a teller. She had no idea about the number of varied

Looking back to his paths of triumph, Ajith made his entry into World of Tamil Cinema as an ordinary artist and later of out of his striving hard work, genuineness and helping tendency, he has elevated himself to a great level in Kollywood cinema.“Try not to be a man of success, but rather to be a man of value” said Albert Einstein and of course Ajith is a man of value. Paths Crossed
Headed back from London last week took much longer than expected, but was made all the more pleasant by a conversation with a fellow passenger for most of the way. Now, usually I tend to keep myself to myself and rarely engage in conversation with strangers. In fact, I didn’t even spark up the banter, but engaged in response until the doors of flowing conversation were opened by a guy called Sam.Sam was an American, and judging by previous experience it is not so surprising that a foreigner were to chat nonchalantly to a stranger on a crowded train. He was pleasant, affable, and appeared interested in what I had to say. He remarked on how London is very different to other city’s he’s lived in, especially in that a lot of people are reluctant to talk casually or even accept a passing smile. He told me that people he works with on a daily basis will blank him everyday at the station even though they recognise each other. He asked me why that was, and although I knew exactly what he

Two different paths, a heartbreak and a record deal...
Probably 90% of the songs posted in this blog are either indie pop tunes or tracks by Danish artists. But every now and then I decide to follow a completely different path in my quest for new music and the other day it paid off (at least for me it did), when I came across UK band hornby pylons. The quartet (based in Cardiff) writes this about their music: "The music made by hornby pylons has so far defied accurate description but is thought to live somewhere between the soul sonic force drum machine, 90's grunge, DFA synths and a badly mixed charity shop DJ set. And the band adds: "the music sounds like electronic drums with electric guitar near a human singing along to keyboards. if you listen closely you may hear the bands actual voices." So not at all the type of stuff you'd normally see (or hear) me post in the blog, but I really, really enjoy this very electronic sounding, somewhat monotonous, highly infectious, absolutely insisting and extremely cool track. + Think For Each Oth

Walks and cycle paths across Crewe
There's been a decent effort to increase cycle paths and walkways across the town but I reckon most would agree that, to date, it's been but a token gesture. If the planners really want to cut traffic and pollution, as well as improve the borough's overall health, then more accessible, well signposted and safe routes need to be established. Regular Crewe blog readers will have seen March and April postings that saw yours truly and a mate tackle two thirds of the Crewe and Nantwich circular walk. Great, really enjoyed it, but too long and over some rough terrain that would eliminate many potential walkers - especially those with young families. So I thought I'd hunt out a few paths that a) provide a little relief from the busy roads; b) act as a shortcut; c) would genuinely encourage Crewe folk to ditch the car and bike/walk to work. First up is the Leighton Greenway, disappointingly hard to find on either the CNBC or CCC websites. I use bits of it a lot, either on foot or bike. Unl

Stanley Kubrick Week Day 2: Capsule Review - Paths of Glory
Director: Stanley Kubrick Cast: Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, Adolphie, George Macready, Wayne Morris, Richard Anderson Paths of Glory is a bleak and sombre war film from early in Kubrick’s career, and set during the First World War. Kirk Douglas stars as Colonel Dax, a french officer who is ordered to send his men on a costly and deadly mission to take Ant Hill at any cost. The mission fails, and the Generals in charge attempt to cover up their mistake with the execution of some of Dax’s innocent soldiers. Kubrick’s innovative tracking shots of the trenches create some of the films most memorable scenes, and Kubricks usual visual flair is present in the wonderful black and white photography. Kubrick’s future wife also appears briefly at the end of the film as a singer. One of the greatest anti-war films of all time, Paths of Glory is a must watch for fans of Kubrick and fans of war films alike. Bookmark to:

Dow stocks, O.C. homes travel differing paths
Snippet of my Sunday column for The Register ...I tossed three decades worth of quarterly market and economic data into my trusty spreadsheet. For starters, I compared stocks' venerable gauge, the Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks, to a well-known marker for local real estate, a federal index of Orange County home values. How out of step is this pair? Looking back over the past 30 years, I could find only one instance where O.C. home values and the Dow stocks fell in the same 12 months. That was the year ended in 1990's fourth quarter. I also found that when the Dow stocks rose by any amount in a 12-month period, gains in those years were more than double profits made in O.C. housing (13.2 percent vs. 7.9 percent.) Conversely, when the Dow was falling, O.C. housing averaged 13.3 percent annual gains. (POLL: Which is a better indicator? Stocks? Housing? Prov. 3:5-6 - Smooth Paths
Pro 3:5-6 GW(5) Trust the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.(6) In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths smooth. Yesterday morning I woke up thinking about the need for Divine guidance. As I was still laying in bed, I realized that lately I have been not putting my trust in God in the way that I should. I realized that I have been worrying over things that I should be leaving up to God to solve. I got out of bed and pulled up my Bible study software, and I started looking up some Scriptures on guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 was the first one that I turned to, and I noticed something about it that I had never noticed before. See, I have always thought of Proverbs 3:5-6 as a guidance Scripture, and in a way it is. What it actually says, though, is that if we put our trust completely in God then He will make our paths smooth. I spent some time thinking about that, and I realized that there is a difference between God guiding us and God mak

      divergent paths and harbored guilt
we are capable of inflicting the worst possible pains on those we hold most dear. time, patience, distance, space, wants, needs, plans, dreams, desires, self-consciousness, self-confidence. these things tried and true and tired and rude and rhythmic. we dance around our alter-egos, pretending we care more about this than that or me or you or them. we lead each other on in order to test our limits, see what we can get away with. the health of our partner is not always in the forefront of our minds but we still and always care like a river flows. anger and madness are our sometimes bedfellows and occasionally we make pacts with peace or slumber. overall our shock at the flying hours only leaves us room to shrink back into ourselves, our shells, our foxholes.
