I'm seeing lots of patchwork on shoes this season. Is it an '80s thing? What do you think of this trend? My favorite is the Miu Miu Contrast color brogue pumps ($525). Juicy Couture bags have come a long way since terry cloth companions to the once ubiquitous sweatsuits. Lately, they've been much more toned down - simple leather satchels, hobos and totes, with a few Juicy details, like chains or charms. In my opinion, Juicy bags may never reach 'It' status, but the designs have been good enough to justify a purchase.However, this atrocity, the Georgia Patchwork Hobo, should never be seen in public. At least, not on anyone's arm. This bag represents Juicy at its absolute worst. Brown, tan, cream and black leather pieces are slapped patch-worked together and centered with the ugliest crest I have ever seen. I'm suddenly very into fabric pouches. The other day, I came across a local shop selling upholstery fabric - mostly for curtain materials and such. They have these bundles and bundles of scrap fabric sold at RM2 each bundle. Here's an example of what you will find in one bundle.A hell of a steal, ain't it? What's more, each piece measures approximately 30cm x 30cm. :D So then, I decided to try and see if patchwork using these fabrics will turn out alright. Here's the first one I made, and I really love the colours.I gave it to my mum for her to use as a purse. :) She doesn't like bulky purses or pouches, so I thought this pouch is just the right size for her needs.And here's another pouch in hues of maroon, red and pink.You can see that the borders where different fabrics meet are not sewn very well. Ok, so I know the traditionalists will be turning in their grave over this but.... I've really like to make a patchwork quilt for my bed. I can see myself quite happily piecing the blocks but I'm really turned off by the actually quilting and binding part. Has anyone pieced a quilt and then simply made it into a doona cover?
