If you need to make frequent land crossings between the U.S. and Canada or Mexico, the U.S. Passport Card could work for you. It really is a great idea. And as is typical with so many things proposed by the U.S. Federal government, it is being implemented late.

For any company, big or small, to survive, stability is vital, which includes the stability of market demand, financing, and human resources, etc. I don’t want to go into details such as the Bear Stearns and the like( You can read the investment posts ).It’s the same for any Internet business, so I’m not someone who hurries to try this service or that service frequently, when these services are not very stable. In fact, I’m a litter worried about beta, even if I do use the beta services like Google Suggest and Netvibes.Yet some friends around me are happy to try new apps and services, even in beta. Despite being totally uninfluenced by my previous post, FP Passport has a new post today about the Reconquista-based vodka ad. This happens on the internet, as a bunch of blogs hover around the same material, picking at it like vultures on a decaying carcass. Also, I had previously referred to third-party hypercandidate Ross Perot as "batshit". I do not hold a negative opinion of Perot, and probably should have called him "hilariously unpredictable, like unto a distant relative who married into your family."

The Democratic chairman and top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee don't want to wait around for an internal State Department investigation into why contractors poked around in the passport files of the three presidential candidates.Sens. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), in a letter today to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, say they want Justice to open a criminal investigation into whether federal privacy laws were violated and whether there are extra measures that should be taken to prevent contractors from accessing such high profile passport files. The passport files of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain were all viewed by State Department contractors, but the department has not identified the contractors. ~ more... ~

So, it wasn't a conspiracy after all... The Story: Obama urges inquiry into passport snooping (via CNN.com) Sen. Barack Obama called for an investigation Friday into how the security of the passport files of the three remaining presidential candidates was breached. The State Department admitted Friday that the passport files of Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. John McCain had been accessed without authorization. "One of the things that the American people count on in their interactions with any level of government is that if they have to disclose personal information, that it stay personal and stay private," Obama said in Portland, Oregon. Was there a political motive behind the breach in security that allowed 3 individuals to access Barack Obama's personal passport file on 3 separate occassions this year? That is something the Obama campaign will seek to find out as they call for a full investigation."This is an outrageous breach of security and privacy, even from an administration that has shown little regard for either over the last eight years. Our government's duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes," spokesperson for the Obama campaign Bill Burton said yesterday."This is a serious matter that merits a complete investigation, and we demand to know who looked at Senator Obama's passport file, for what purpose and why it took so long for them to reveal this secur
A copy of Aishwarya’s passport, which is still valid, is posted on the InternetIs this a copy of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s actual passport? This question is boggling the mind of every person who has seen a copy of the document on various Bollywood blogs on the Internet. The image of her passport seems to have most of the important information right. Issued in May 2006, the passport has her name as Aishwarya Rai suggesting it was taken before her marriage. Interestingly, her photo on the passport doesn’t seem to be a file shot, suggesting the document could very well be authentic.Sources claim that leaking such private and confidential information as available on a passport is highly dangerous as the document can be misused for wrong purposes. “Most production houses have access to th

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the department itself detected the instances of "imprudent curiosity," which occurred separately on Jan. 9, Feb. 21 and March 14. He would not release the names of those who were fired and disciplined. MSNBC has this breaking story:
Two contract employees of the State Department were fired and a third person was disciplined for accessing passport records of Sen. Barack Obama “without a need to do so,” State Department officials confirmed to NBC News.
The three people who had access to Obama’s passport records were contract employees of the department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs, NBC News has learned. The unauthorized activity concerning Obama’s passport information occurred in January.
This is big news. The same thing happened to Clinton in 1992, with big reprocussions in an election year (h/t Crooks and Liars and Attyhood):

Yesterday while I was wasting the hours away on the sofa, I watched Top 20 Travel Tips. I thought it would be a real big bore of a show, that I could keep on as background noise while I surfed the web. I was surprised that the show was not only entertaining but very informative. Most of the Travel Tips I had already known, but the show helped to expand as well as broaden my knowledge of the tip(s).One of the tips that I thought was just ingenious was to have your passport scanned and then sent via an email to yourself. In the past I just made two photocopies of my passport. One I placed at home and let a friend know where it is and the second copy I would leave in my luggage in another place other then where my real passport is kept. With scanning you have a real copy of your pass
Initially I wanted to add my daughter's name to my passport since I did not want to get her a passport so early as she would have 3 passports by the time she is in her 20's. But a visit to the Regional Passport Office website told me that we can no longer add a name to the parent's passport and that we have to get a fresh passport.I went to the local e-seva counter at S.R. Nagar and bought the application form for Rs. 10. Filling up the application was fairly straightforward following the instructions at the back of the form. It is also clearly mentioned what needs to be submitted along with the form. After getting the form you need to complete the form and submit it at the passport office.

I have been talking about visiting home for a long time, and was telling my husband that if I get lucky this Summer I would love to go-yes, that is if I have the money. Well, he said I don't even have a passport, so how can I do that? And it takes 6 months to get a passport. So, I am actually not talking sense, I can only wish for now. I am hoping that when our daughter Hannah is old enough for me to leave home, I will see getting a passport and visit the Philippines. I am the only one that can go since my husband doesn't want to let our daughters go along, he doesn't want to go either because money is tight. So, they will be left behind. It is sad that my family can't see our children, but I guess that is life when someone wishes to be somewhere very far away from home. I didn't foresee s

European leaders celebrated Friday as the borders of nine countries along a Cold War frontier melted away, allowing a huge expansion to the EU's passport-free travel zone. In Zittau, on Germany's eastern fringe — where the country meets Poland and the Czech Republic — Chancellor Angela Merkel, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso raised a border gate as children set loose dozens of blue balloons covered by stars — symbolizing the EU flag. "We are all quite happy to be able to celebrate this truly historic moment together," - Merkel said. Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Malta joined the EU in 2004, but could not be part of the Schengen frontier-free zone until now because their police and border guards were not considered in line with EU norms. "It would have been better to wait a year or two longer to abolish the border controls," said Joachim Herrmann, the in
New winds of change are blowing across Europe. Starting December 21, the passport free Schengen Zone will be expanded to include nine more countries - eight of them former Iron Curtain members. Fewer land and sea travel border checks will be required for these countries. Not only that, but by March the expansion is expected to include airports in 24 European nations.
The Schengen Zone was born out of the 1985 agreement in a Luxembourg village (from which it takes its name) between Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Since then it has expanded to include 30 European members, including all EU member states and three non EU members. This recent expansion is the largest and includes Malta and eight Eastern European states.
For now, all the excitement is centered on the fact that daily life will become easier for residents rather than any dramatic changes in economic status for the newly inducted countries. In towns like Valga-Valka on the Estonian Latvian borde
Well, it’s looking pretty good about going on a cruise. I’m excited. I also found everything I need to renew my passport. I have two old ones, and I have to send in the most recent one. It was issued less than 15 years ago (I got it in 1994) and so I’m good for the mail in renewal. I also found our Marriage License and Certificate, I will have to include those as well. Oh yeah, I was going to look at the turn around time with passports, as I’ve heard the horror stories of how long they are taking now. Hopefully mine won’t take 10 months to get!
We are looking at a Carnival Cruise that goes to Grand Cayman and Belize City, among other things. I want to go scuba diving. I’ll have to get my scuba certification renewed as well, because the last time I went was back in 1998. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going unless I got re-certified. I think it’s just a short lesson and I can go to Sea Base for it, it’s considered an open water dive

Payment order for sperm donor -
This is really a useless case. The lesbian couple wanted kids and this donor was a good friend and helped them out. No child services or the receiving couple [the ladies] should be able to force him to pay child support for kids he has no interest in being involved with. What a waist of court time and money.

Terry and I are in the process of planning a weeklong getaway of bliss. Our fifteenth anniversary is in January, and in honor of that we are returning to the site of the most refreshing vacations we have ever taken. The first order of business was to secure babysitting--done (thanks Dad and Susan!). The second order of business was to renew my passport, so that I could get out of the country.

Unbelievable! What a bimbo!
Telling the airline counter staff when asked for identification: “You can Google her.”
Like …. duhh!! You may be famous but you need your papers before you can board the plane!
The airline staff should have their butts kicked for letting her fly.
G’day! I’ve been a bit busy settling this past few days in Melbourne. I know, I know, I’ve been here before so I should know how things work. But I actually haven’t really gone out yet, except for that trip to the market and to the Collingwood Children’s Farm (Wooly sheep! Cows with spots!). My accountant brother-in-law has until October 26 to file their family’s GST and both my sister and I are helping him organize 3 years worth of files.
Anywhoo, until my next post (the Gorillapod review), I’ll share with you a couple of messages I got in my inbox today.
JustWandering reader BBBB shares that the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Clark will be having a viewing of the A380 when it lands on October 12:
Good news! DMIA will be holding a public viewing of the aircraft on Friday, October 12 from 12PM to 4PM.
So if you’re itching to see this superjumbo in action, head on to Clark, since I don’t think there will be a publ
