      Francine Pascal Addiction...
During my early teens I had a huge collection of Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley. Her books actually inspired me to read. I remember being fascinated by the life of Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield. Francine Pascal is the reason why I go to the library every week. I look forward to the next adventures of the twins.Unfortunately when I got a little bit older I didn't have all the time in the world to

Is it possible for a compiler to be ISO 7185 Pascal compliant and Borland Delphi compliant as well?
GNU GPC is such a compiler. It will take switches that configure it for either ISO 7185 use or Borland use. Note that several of the differences between the languages are compatible between the languages without the need for an option. Here is a list of ISO 7185 to Delphi differences, and whether they require a configuration option, and why. See the section "Differences between the languages", for details on each difference. 1. Procedure and function parameters. Requires a configuration option: No Reason: In delphi mode, the keyword procedure or function in a procedure or function header is an error. In ISO 7185 Pascal, it introduces a procedure or function parameter. This makes it essentially an extension to Delphi. 2. Interprocedural gotos. Requires a configuration option: No Reas

Is it possible to write in a Pascal subset that will be acceptable to both ISO 7185 Pascal and Delphi?
Sure. You can use the ISO 7185 "level 0" Pascal with the following omissions: 1. Do not use procedure or function parameters. These have different syntax in ISO 7185 and Delphi. 2. Do not use intraprocedural gotos (gotos that leave the current procedure or function). If you need a deep nested bailout to a higher level procedure, try setting an error variable and checking that after each procedure/function call that might have an error, then skipping either out of the routine, or to the goto point. 3. Do not use file buffer handling (such as f^ accesses, where f is a file), nor the built in routines "get" and "put". Basically, this just means you cannot use the lookahead buffering that ISO 7185 Pascal provides. 4. Do not size your variant records with "new". Delphi knows about varia

Comparision of Pascal and Borland Delphi
Pascal is a programming language, developed in 1970 by Niklaus Wirth. An alternative dialect was created by Borland Corporation. Their language went through several versions and names, such as Turbo Pascal, Borland Pascal, and finally Delphi Pascal. This page briefly goes over the differences between those dialects of the language. The title of this page "Comparison between Pascal and Delphi" was chosen because Borland uses the name "Delphi" exclusively for their version of the language. It is correct to refer to "Pascal" in general as Niklaus Wirth's original language (and derivatives) and Borland's dialect as "Delphi". When referring to Borland's previous dialects, the terms "Turbo Pascal", and "Borland Pascal" apply. The Term ISO 7185 or ISO 7185 Pascal is used here as synonymous with Nikla

      Implementations Pascal
The first Pascal compiler was designed in Zurich for the CDC 6000 series mainframe computer family. Niklaus Wirth reports that a first attempt to implement it in Fortran in 1969 was unsuccessful due to Fortran's inadequacy to express complex data structures. The second attempt was formulated in the Pascal language itself and was operational by mid-1970. Many Pascal compilers since have been similarly self-hosting, that is, the compiler is itself written in Pascal, and the compiler is usually capable of recompiling itself when new features are added to the language, or when the compiler is to be ported to a new environment. The GNU Pascal compiler is one notable exception, being written in C. The first successful port of the CDC Pascal compiler to another mainframe was completed by Welsh and Quinn at the Queen's University of Belfast in 1972. The target was the ICL 1900 computer. The first Pascal compiler written in North America was constructed at the University of Illinois under Don

      THE SIMPLE PASCAL DATA TYPE
WHAT IS A DATA TYPE? A type in Pascal, and in several other popular programming languages, defines a variable in such a way that it defines a range of values which the variable is capable of storing, and it also defines a set of operations that are permissible to be performed on variables of that type. TURBO Pascal has eight basic data types which are predefined and can be used anywhere in a program provided you use them properly. This chapter is devoted to illustrating the use of these eight data types by defining the allowable range of values that can be assigned to them, and by illustrating the operations that can be done to variables of these types. Smith’s Wager, A Counter to Pascal
The following is an excerpt from a speech given by George Smith before the Society of Separationists in 1976. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. The full speech will be placed in the Toolbox section tomorrow. Blaise Pascal was the famous French mathematician, philosopher, and theologian. He came up with this argument which consequently became quite famous, which went something as follows. Reason can’t prove or disprove the existence of God. Weigh the odds. If the atheist is correct, we’re going to die, nothing will happen, and nothing is lost. But if the Christian is correct, the nonbelievers are going to believe in Hell for eternity. So it seems like the practical odds would lie with Christianity. We would wager on Christianity because the practical odds are so important. If you wager on Christianity and there is no god, you don’t lose anything. The first obvious problem with this is it completely shoves aside the whole issue of intellectual integrity, as i

How Does Pascal's Wager Lead One To Christianity?
Many Christians like Pascal's Wager and are quick to pull it out in debating atheists. While reading a post at Spanish Inquisitor, I found myself wondering what this odd little bit of philosophic gambling has to do with Christianity. I have to assume that Pascal offered this as justification for theism rather than Christianity. If one follows the idea of the wager, I see nothing that would lead one to Christianity as opposed to Islam or some other religion.Pascal expressed this famous bit of apologetics as follows:If you erroneously believe in God, you lose nothing (assuming that death is the absolute end), whereas if you correctly believe in God, you gain everything (eternal bliss). But if you correctly disbelieve in God, you gain nothing (death ends all), whereas if you erroneously disbelieve in God, you lose everything (eternal damnation). Some Christians claim that they find this compelling even though it seems like an incredibly poor reason to believe anything. But how is this sup

Is it a hotel? Is it a resort? It’s the Jungle Dome! This perfectly named spot is a perfect destination for travelers like ourselves…..great people, great food, great service! And the location and setting are great. It’s an adventure just getting here.We love the personal service, the intimate size and the great local people. The Belizeans seem to be kind and happy and our hosts Andy, Simone & their boys are sweet as can be. We felt so special in Poolside Apartment 2…what did we do to deserve this room….thank you!We also want to thank our tour guides who are all so friendly, but more importantly, extremely knowledgeable….Louis at Xunantunich, Eddy on horseback, Carlos for cave tubing, Juan at the Zoo and the boys at the zip lineWe look forward to three more days at the islands but are worried that we’ll miss the Jungle Dome….We hope to return with our kidsPascal & Deanne Spehar, Blue Springs, MO, USA - February 2007

      Pascal's Wager: A Faith-Based Sucker's Bet
By David Gleeson August 23, 2006 If you are skeptical of the supernatural, as I am, you will sooner or later be confronted with an “argument” sometimes referred to as Pascal’s Wager. Blaise Pascal was a 17th century French mathematician who formulated this rationale for taking belief in God seriously: “If atheism is right, we [Biblical literalists] have nothing to lose by believing. But if we’

Pascal's Fire: Scientific Faith and Religious Understanding
A book from the Evolution Research - Amazon Book Shop/Store (links at the end of the post) on "Science and Religion": Pascal's Fire: Scientific Faith and Religious Understanding By Keith Ward Description: In the midst of global resurgence of interest in religion, and especially religion's relation to modern scientific knowledge, "Pascal's Fire" offers an erudite and original perspective. By examining how four ground-breaking changes in the history of scientific discourse (the Earth as the center of the univer

      Fredrik Norrena > Pascal Leclaire
If I see that Leclaire is injured one more time this season...I am going to freak out. I have never seen the kid play an entire game...and well frankly I don't know that I want to. Norrena has proven to be a more than confident goalie for us (yes I realize we lost 4-0 tonight...but I will get to that later) he just struggles on one on one situations...which he CAN improve on...BUT at least he's
